The recipe:
- Aeropress inverted
- 30gr coarse ground coffee
- 100gr soft water at 92*celsius
- aeropress spoon, stir 20 times
- Put the cap on with double filterpaper(rinsed)
- Push out excess air
At 40sec
- Flip and press
- Dilute with 120gr water at 92*celsius
Serve at 60*celsius
Does that mean push out air and wait for 40 Seconds?

I just got an AeroPress yesterday and have already used this method three times. Makes a great cup of coffee! Very balanced.
Great as always, quick concise and to the point. Can't wait to try these these recipes myself, keep up the good work 👍
I've had my Aeropress for about a month and love the coffee I make, I just got a coffee scale and your video is the first one I clicked on to get a recipe, I followed the recipe step by step and WOW BEST AEROPRESS COFFEE I have had! Thanks!
Great timing! I was looking for a new recipe to try tomorrow. Great video as always, thank you!
I've tried the recipe and it was simply the best coffee of my life. From a bean that I previously did not particularly enjoy with any previous brews. Thumbs up for sharing it 👍
Amazing! Thanks for letting us know.

I saw Wendelien at the Dutch Aeropress Championship 2019 in Utrecht. Congratulations to her!
🥰
We made a short documentary capturing the story of the AeroPress 👉 aeropressmovie.com
I’ve been using aeropress for about a year now, I found out about a world championship last week, now I just found out that the coffee used in 2019 is from El Salvador
I’m Salvadoran and I feel so proud right now!
i just bought an aeropress to do some good coffe then realize there are competitions of it wtf
What a surprise, right? You will be even more surprised when I tell you we made a 45-minute documentary about it:) Check out the AeroPress Movie.
@@svenlima Lol
Same. I was like oh cool ill have some better coffee now. Didn’t realize I was joining a cult. I’m all in
Lmao
Definitely something I'll have to give a try. Thanks for sharing!
I never was the biggest fan of the Aeropress. But this recipe made the Aeropress my favorite brewer! Wish I could brew more at once however
Wow this taste really good! Thank you!!! Gonna try the other recipes
Coffee from my beautiful land El Salvador helps to make lot of champions for sure!
tried this today with local beans, and it was a clean and smooth cup with sweet dominant taste :)
This recipe is pretty darn food. I actually also love the second place finisher from 2019 as well. Aeropress is just so versatile I love it.
Also love your channel! keep up the awesome work. Definitely an inspiration!
It really is food!
how to find recipe of second place 2019
Greeting from Chicago. Knew about the recipe but not the filter, thanks!!!
We'll have to send you some paper so you can play around with the Aesir Filters! (the 3rd Place winner also used them).
I normally use a much smaller dose of coffee (15-16g) but when i tried this recipe.... was so good as well! Yum!
Thanks
It is possible he uses much more because it's course-ground. What sort of grind do you use with the 15g?
Did you change how much water you used?
@@RastaJediX is it worth it to use twice the coffee?
@@DM-fp8uw Nope
@@DM-fp8uw only if you like a much stronger coffee, or want more caffeine then yes.
Woooah, just tried that! WOW THAT'S GOOD!
I just tried it and I'm very surprised. It's so silky and tasty, I was expecting it to be strong because of 30g, but not at all
And for now this is my favorite recipe
I also invert my Aeropress. There's no real need to but it makes me feel good. And the coffee is awesome!
Coffee sellers love this recipe.
Spa is a Belgian brand; hailing from the village of 'spa', which is also where the word 'spa' (as in: a spa resort) comes from.
Yeah, we found out to late to fix the mistake in the video. We are really sorry about that!
Spa comes from the latin "salus per aqua", health in the water
@@utopiadaniele It is commonly claimed, in a commercial context, that the word is an acronym of various Latin phrases, such as salus per aquam or sanitas per aquam, meaning "health through water".[4] This is very unlikely: the derivation does not appear before the early 21st century and is probably a backronym as there is no evidence of acronyms passing into the language before the 20th century;[5] nor does it match the known Roman name for the location.[6]
as an f1 fan, i instantly thought of Belgium when the mention "spa", but when he said it was Dutch it felt weird.
Came here to point that out. Source: living in Spa. :)
Tried this recipe this morning. Seemed strong for my taste. Added an extra 30g of water and tasted great . . . for me. Thanks for the video. It's fun to know how the actual winner made their cup of jo!
Thanks for giving it a try, Michael!
This one is so much simpler than some of the other ones. Lol. So nice
Replicated it as best I could. Remarkably good for such a simple technique.
Nice!
Did you use a double filter or the Canadian filter?
@@danielpincus221 Not sure, but probably the Aesir filter, since I've had them for a while. The Aesir seems to make the cup lose body /mouthfeel, but the notes are more defined. I suspect the trend for the coffee illuminati is, in musical terms, to taste an arpeggio. I am a liitle old fashioned and prefer to taste the "chord" and THEN try to detect a note wherever I can...but it isn't a high priority. I just aim to make an excellent cup of coffee. Knowing notes, though, definitely has helped me figure out what I prefer (e.g. milk chocolate, fig, caramel, a whisp of smoke, a wink of acidity). One time I had a cup that had a strong blueberry flavor...absolutely fascinating, but I just don't associate coffee flavor with blueberry, so I would never buy a pound of it for myself. Once or twice as an adventure is enough.
Good job on doing such a great worldwide shipped content from Czechia! (fellow Czech creator here!)
Cheers, mate!
Going to check your channel ☕️🖤
wow thats actually my recipe too with 2 small differences. i fill my aeropress after the 40sec just before pressing it. and i cool it with 1-2 ice cubes before adding extra water.
How do I make 12oz of coffee with the aeropress? I can only seem to get 6oz out of it.
AWESOME
i had a aeropress for 3 years. just resparked my love for it. so versatile.
Same. Also I'm trying to fast and finding a nice single origin coffee has also resparked my love for it
I just bought one today and I'm loving the flavors better than my old French Press. ☺️
Versatile? It can only make coffee
@@MaestroAlvis if you put 20g coffee, 50g water with a prismo attachement, its like an espresso shot. if you put 20 grams with 200grams its a strong coffee. if you put 20grams and 150grams ish water and leave it for 8 hours you get cold brew.
@@MaestroAlvis I've seen people make tea
using aeropress you can deserve a good taste latte. even a slightly crema but have a espresso shot a sweetness with added milk 150gr. nyammm😋
Damnn.... I thought it is not ok to press the plunge when the cap is already closed....
Thanks for the recipe and description European Coffee Trip
Always enjoying your videos! Greetings from Chile!
Thank you!
after months of having the aeropress in my amazon wishlist
I finally decided to buy it
cant wait to try that out :o
currently using a pour over, and sometimes french press :p
Remilia how do you like it?
@@dusk5956 While not being Remilla, I can add some feedback.
I've been drinking pour over exclusively for at least 5 years (probably 8-10).
I bought the Aeropress for work, since I only drink a single cup and it's easier to make one at work (we only have an electric kettle, and while others drink coffee, we wouldn't devour a whole pot).
The Aeropress is pretty good, but the cup is horrible. I use a thermos cup after making the coffee.
The instructions from Aeropress makes a weak cup of coffee - Personally I use 1½ scoops.
This looks really interesting, thanks for sharing! It seems odd, though, to dilute with water at 92C, but then cool it down - why not simply dilute with water at, say 65C?
After 10 years of Hario, I finally bought am aeropress and just intuitively modified the recipe in the instructions.
I measured a scoop of medium coarse ground light roast of Tanzanian peaberry from Porto Rico Importing co NYC. Chose this one because Hario didn’t produce intense enough results so I was not pleased with the beans (so far).
Straight method not inverted(i wish i did invert for better steeping but it was my first)
1scoop of coffee @14g measured
200g water @ 205F measured
Steeping time 1min.
Boy o boy those Tanzanian beans started singing, i felt I was drinking some tropical berry juice. Very very satisfying. So looking at this recipe and thinking that 30g is perhaps waaay too much.
The ideal brewing method surely will vary depending on your beans and water. It'd be nice to have a video describing how to change the variables to amplify or dial down different results.
Check out James Hoffmann’s extensive series on the Aeropress, it’s exactly what you’re describing.
Wow. This is actually simple and seems very possible to try at home.
I'm pretty sure I took the wrong turn somewhere.... i ended up with coffee in the ceiling, boiling water in my hands and I'm afraid the dog is never coming back home.
@@-tz9gq did your dog ever come back ?
I just made this 5 minutes ago and it's absolutely fantastic. I drank it black, which I normally don't do. I was able to extract flavors that I normally am unable to do using a Chemex. Thanks so much for this video!
Great! Thank you.
Ales/Yonas. When do we start the timer? Is it the moment we pour the water or once we start stirring? I like to know when will we hit the 40 seconds mark. Thanks
@@lintanghutama I start the timer once I start stirring! :)
Thanks for the video. 💙 I have tried this recipe with my Aeropress Go and found it works wonder! This recipe is especially good for the APG since the chamber is smaller in the Go kit. The coffee is more on the acidic side and I found using a lighter roast gives a fuller body of the brew. I tried brewing with one standard filter paper and two. Using two filter papers to get a sweeter cup.
Use very fine coffee. Fill to the two mark with water. Stir. Let sit 30 seconds till it drains through some.Fill to the 4 mark. Let it brew 2 minutes. Press. This way I can get a 12 oz cup. I like 12 oz expresso like coffee.
Spa Reine is from Belgium 🇧🇪 😉 thanks for the video
Never heard of the AeroPress was on twitter and a nice guy told me about it.. i'm more of a Moccamaster guy.. i thought this was a camping thing. No idea it was a serious coffee tool haha...Greetings from The Netherlands.
Love this video, thanks!
So how much water would we add to get a more standard dilution? I would expect 30g to get me around 450ml/15oz, give or take an ounce but I'm sitting here with a cup of murky water even at a total 360ml/12oz.
Café Salvadoreño is the best! Get it if you can find it!
Hi, what click on your C40 do you use for your Recipe, and Redclix or not ? Thx
The beauty of the Aeropress. You have no idea what to expect out of the winning recipe. There is an interesting trend with creating a concentrate and then diluting it.
Mirror Coffee Roasters not a trend. That’s what the directions and the inventor of the Aeropress say to do with it
Adam B Sorry Adam, thanks for the correction. I’ve unfortunately have been enjoying the aeropress with alternative recipes so I guess It’s more that I’m learning more about the original way of doing it.
Thanks!
Mirror Coffee Roasters quite alright. Lots of people on YT try to make a “full cup” of coffee instead of basically making a shot of faux espresso and watering it down
@@defaultusername123 Yes, the full cup recipes have been the more familiar ones on my behalf. I'm definitely enjoying the espresso and diluting it method over the full cup.
Wow
I notice that pretty much all of them use the inverted method! I tried the regular vacuum seal method and could not get it to work. As soon as I poured in any appreciable amount of water it passed right through the filter
how did yoy prepare the water. You used 1/4 of the package with what kind of water? destilled water? how many liters?
Can you define "course", for those of us who don't have the grinder mentioned? Maybe a photo? Is the Aeropress flexible enough in grind size that it doesn't need to be precise?
think like the coarse end of a french press grind. the "30" mentioned in this video is 30 clicks at 30 microns per click, so ~900 microns. a little finer than sea salt?
Damn that's so food!
Shud have shown a picture of the grinds in comparison with other grind sizes
I know right!?
nice coffee
Was this using the Aeropress Go? And did the winning recipe also use the Aeropress Go or just a regular Aeropress? I have both but my Aeropress recipe doesn’t quite work as well for the Go since it’s smaller.
Hey guys, could you review the grinder used in the winning recipe on stage? As far as i know it is the Kinu M47 Phoenix with their new replacement pour-over burr set. I am really interested to see how it compares to the Comandante as I am probably going to buy one of these. Díky!
You can watch James Hoffmans video comparing hand grinders, he does Kinu/Comandante/Lido/Helor/Knock comparison it is all you need to know.
I'm currently using around 12 grams of coffee (pre ground). It seems excessive to jump to thirty? I'll give it a go regardless.
Very strong cup 😳
Hey! I drink a lot of coffee but always from coffee shops. I just bought an aeropress to start experimenting but Im having some difficulties like:
(I just want a good cup of coffee without having to weight anything)
How many grams is the spoon that comes?
How much water should I use? (Until which number?)
Is it really important the time?
(Im using Aeropress Go)
Thanks a lot!!!
when do you start the timer?
I've heard about not depressing the puck when pressing out the coffee. You do this at 1:56. Is that specified in the recipe? I might have been doing this wrong the whole time.
Tried this with my light roast coffee and it didn't go very well. It tasted surprisingly different from how it would normally tastes under other brewing method, I like it, but it's way too light. I guess I had difficulties extracting much from the beans under this method
When does the timer start for knowing when to flip and press at :40? Thanks!
time starts as soon as you pour water in
Matt Gilroy Noted. Thanks so much!
I got the Aesir filters in America and I love them so much better. They’re worth it if you can get your hands on ‘em.
Woulda been nice for you to show us the coffee so we can work out how coarse
wow that's a real good cup!, very good mouthfeel, and a nice underlying acidity. That's a lot of beans tho for a small cup of coffee, can't make it a habit.
Is that 40 seconds after pressing out the air? Or start the timer before you pour
When the water hits the grounds, start counting.
Of course the champion was from the Netherlands, they have the best coffee off the shelf!
I´m wondering why you are diluting with 92 and then cool it down right after. Couldn´t you dilute with a bit colder water?
40 seconds from first infusion or after he takes out excess air?
How many minutes long is the aeropress movie?
Thank you for the video, one thing though : SPA water is from Belgium! Not the Netherlands.
A small sidenote… the water used, Spa blauw, is not dutch but belgian.
The trend I see for the winning recipes is about using coarse grind with a high brew ratio (eg. 30-ish grams of coffee for only 100 grams of water) before diluting it with some more water after the brewing process is done. I wonder why that is..
nathanielad why?
nathanielad because the Aeropress doesn’t make full cups of coffee it makes quick extracted concentrates/shots that are then watered down
@@defaultusername123 That is Not my experience with Aeropress. I make full cups of coffee everyday using the Aeropress. If you choose, you can make a concentrate and then dilute with more hot water IF more than one cup is desired.
@@defaultusername123 that sounds like a problem to me, this will always dilute the taste.
Do we start the 40 second timer AFTER the 20 stirs? Or right when we poor the water in?
Start the timer as soon as you poor the water in
Very cool! What grind size did you/she use?
Tyler Bedgood coarse grind as mentioned
He Said Coarse. You'll Have To Play Around With Grind Setting As Each Grinder Is Different
Nice vid, Spa is a belgium brand though
Thank you!
Yeah, we know about the mistake 😥
If I only use 15gr of coffee, will it be ok to half the amount of water?
What setting is that on a Kinu M47 Phoenix?
waiting for the moon rock filters.
now I need to learn how to determine the temperature of my water
Well, there are temperature controlled kettles (a little more pricey) or simply get a relatively cheaper thermometer. If it’s close enough to 100C and you lightly roasted coffee it’s okay to go with out of the boil water too...
This is interesting, most people are recommending really fine grind
Right? I found this makes a very bitter coffee in my aero press
@@riffedwood5597 ikr, i usually use a more coarser ground, something close to a granulated sugar, though if its too hollow or just too sour i use a more fine grind, but never too fine like any other recommendations from youtube
but i guess thats one of many wonder of coffee where people have their own preference and a whole lot of beans to try
How to adjust that recipe for the areopress go ?
once, when ill have too much coffee at the end of a moth, i will do this recipe
Using a Baratza Encore grinder, how coarse you reckon it should be?
I have the same grinder and was wondering about the same. Judging by the look of the grounds on the video I'd say is something between 15 and 20
How do we order the coffee used?
When do you start counting the 40 secs? When you start to pour water or when your done stirring 20 times, or..?
I notice while he was stirring it was already at 20secs so I think the 40secs start when you start the pour
The water brand Spa is not Dutch, it's a national treasure from Belgium.
I am happy to see the Aesir filters are a part of the winning entry. I just received my first order of two packs of them, have been using the Aeropress for at least 7 years, they are absolutely an important improvement. They definitely increase the pressure of the plunge, but also seem to let more oils pass thru while decreasing the sediment at the same time. I was able to order online from eightouncecoffee.ca and had them sent right to me. I have seen a few folks here say that they are scared or get disastrous results from the inverted method, but if you just "commit" to the flip and figure out the method it will never collapse. I think I have had one unsuccessful flip and it was due to the rubber plunger being past its useful life. If you change that as needed when things get a little loose, the actual Aeropress will last for many years!
So glad to hear you like the filters! We are the manufacturers. Trying to spread the word on how much of a difference the filter, and even the paper make.
Should I time 40seconds after removing extra air or time it as soon as removing air? Thanks
The 40 seconds includes the time needed to press out the extra air
What would 30 clicks on your grinder equal for the Kinu M47 Classic grinder+-? Thank you.
Hugo Bokhorst He said 30, Which would be well into french press territory
I normally use 15 grams of fine ground with 200 grams of water. Isn't this a very strong brew?
It is! But that's the idea of my recipe; make a strong and acidic brew and dilute it to the desired strength! Hope that helps😇
@@wendelienvanbunnik I will try that out! 🙂
That sounds like a 'normal' coffee, this is how you win competitions overdosing / under extracting to pronounce more acidic / fruity flavours and not get as much (or any?) bitterness. Have you tried it? I imagine it's cool and good to do for fun, but I don't think most people would do it like that everyday :p
Nice video Armin Van Buuren
What is the black cup you're using @2:09? I was unable to find it in the links.
It's part of the Aeropress Go kit
I'm new to the Aeropress and see that many recipes use 200 grams of water, then add water after brewing the coffee. Wouldn't just using more water to begin with result in a richer, more flavorful cup of coffee?
More water might lead to an overextracted coffe.
Why press out the air at 1:40? I want to know what difference it makes.
this way you are pushing air out through the top of the aeropress instead of through the coffee mixture. You could avoid this by stopping pressure on the plunger as soon as all of the water (coffee) is pressed out of the cylinder, or by adjusting the plunger to a different point in the aeropress so there is no air in the cylinder to begin with.
why do you pull water into it at the end?
