- Canadian skier Todd Brooker was racing down Hahnenkamm Mountain, in Kitzbuhel, Austria, in 1987 when he lost a ski and crashed. It was scary to watch then and still scary today.

Apparently he only broke his nose and tore 3 ligaments in one knee... considering the fall I'm in shock he didn't do more damage!
It's because he got knocked unconscious the first hit. Having a limp body means that you're pretty much going to sustain less-severe injuries.
@@sultanmahfries6402 That's somewhat true and somewhat not really, I mean the only reason he tore three ligaments in his knee was probably cause he got knocked out. Oh and that's a pretty damn serious injury, it's likely that injuries like that are career ending.
His entire skeletal system did a 360 within his skin.
He probably relaxed his body cus he already passed out

Or dead. One skier ripped open himself like a wishbone at the crotch and bled out. Tragic to see. This looked worse but wasn’t at all. Crazy.
Wow look at the shitty fence they had. Things have come a long way.
Apparently, the fences were not made for protection. Instead, they figured that if your broken body, after a whole lot of twisting and crashing, has made it all the way to _that_ fence, the wood from the fence would be used for a *casket.*
By the time you were down at the fence it was hoped they could at least recover your body easier
I'm positive they picked up that snow fence on sale down at the local Beaver Lumber.
I started alpine skiing in '86, and luckily "for me" Todd crashed the following winter. I'll never forget the images of him cartwheeling down the mountain, and that likely saved me from serious injuries.
On the other hand - I never won anything.
The fall did end his downhill career. He came back as a commentator.
He totally embellished that fall to draw a penalty.

Deceleration on his vital organs was never too extreme, it's much better to tumble than to stop abruptly.
Well, but it is still better to slide than to tumble like that, kudos to the way slopes are prepared for the races nowadays.
