- Mike Krzyzewski took over the Duke Men’s Basketball program in 1980, just two years after they had gone to the NCAA Championship game in 1978. Since then, the Blue Devils have gone to 12 Final Fours and won 5 NCAA Championships. Dozens of Coach K’s Blue Devils players have gone on to play in the NBA. In this episode of Legacy: Coach K - The 1980’s, former Duke players Jay Bilas, Johnny Dawkins and Alaa Abdelnaby join Kenny Dennard to talk about Coach K and the decade of the 80’s at Duke Basketball.

Man I’m gonna cry. It’s almost and end of an era. #DOITFORK #THANKYOUCOACHK #BDN 😢🔵😈
We love your Coach K!🥰💕
Wow what a great segment kenny! Seeing Johnny and Jay reminds me of the 1986 team and the foundation it set for the future! What a great run Coach K had! Keep it going thru retirement! Thanks for the memories Coach K! 1986 alum.
So sad to see him leave
Ole Cryzinkski was defeated by Dean Smith 14 our of 24 rimes. Another winning record for Dean. I love it!
Nice piece Kenny!! Loved it.
Legacy, sir. I believe.🙏💕👍💯
I wish Kenny would have added his own insight into Coach K’s relationship with the team his first year. Kenny was a senior at the time, not happy to have a new coach who he’d never heard of and who had not recruited him. The team was also not happy to have a military coach, who was only 12 years older, who had a very different style than Coach Foster. I don’t blame them for that, but the team, including Kenny, I believe, did not give Coach K enough respect or legitimacy that year. It would have been interesting to hear about how that relationship changed over time. It’s part of the legacy with his players.
Nard Dawg!
Blind to billionaire
Good he’s finally leaving!
Somebody is angry he’s kicked your team’s butt for years.
