- Setting out to sail 1700 miles across the OPEN OCEAN from St Helena to Brazil. Casting off the lines for 12 days at sea, out of sight of land, gives us a huge sense of freedom. Catching our dinner whilst sailing is the easy part, preparing, cooking and cleaning up on the rock and roll ride that Florence gives as she surfs the ocean waves is another matter entirely.
We have been sailing around the world for 6 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs, lows, and challenges of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid.

The Action, the Music, the Sailing, the Scenery, the wave action, the Naration.... One of my favorite sailing channels! what an adventure you are sharing with us. Thank you!
Could not have put into words myself agree entirely cheers n beers Marty Australia
@@elizaandalisa , Matt & Amy are the real deal…exactly as it it out there.
Watching your progress is a real tonic. It is a privilege to share your experiences.
What a lovely gesture from the ferry crew and that lovely lady. How sad to be leaving
This has become my favorite sailing channel. Just stunning footage, and real, unhurried scenes of sailing so we can get a real feel for the surroundings and the experience. Thank you!
I agree! :)
But that overly slick 'professional' documentary style, voice over thing turns me off! It feels like a TV show in all the worst ways! You imagine someone shouting cut so they can head off back to their 6 star luxury hotel leaving someone else to do the sailing?
@@Toby_the_Glen ….. then don’t watch mate …
My favourite sailing channel. As well as being a highly competent couple, they're amazing videographers
Florence is right at home surfing the waves on this somewhat relaxing passage. Brilliant!
I don't know why you guys would think you had little to show us in this video. It was one of your best so far. Even up there with the Indian Ocean videos. I really enjoyed every minute of this video, so thanks for putting this whole 25 minutes of sailing up for us to watch. Can't wait for the next installment.
Thank you. You are both fantastic humans and true inspirations. By far the best sailing channel on CZcams. I live on the west coast of Norway. And if you ever come here let me know.
Thanks so much for telling your story so well.
MATT AND AMY AWESOME, WONDERFUL SAILORS AND STORYTELLERS.
DONT EVER THINK ABOUT STAYING ASHORE. THANK YOU
I do so enjoy the raw sailing footage from you all. And, I do so enjoy and I am inspired by the love the two of you share. Your adventure footage is outstanding as well, the on land version of your travels. Wow...amazing. .. Thank you.
One of the best sailing channels. I know you're back in the UK now but when you're sailing again don't worry about "nothing happening" - just watching Florence sail is most enjoyable. Thankyou both.
Exactly
So amazing. I just love watching your channel. You are a amazingly relaxed couple. And your video cuts are super awesome.
Watching you guys is amazing!! Thank you for best ever entertainment !!!
You did a great job with this video! Really captured the sailing experience and motion, which is so difficult to capture. ❤❤. Loved it!
I love how you explain the particulars of sailing the boat and maintenance issues that arise. From someone that’s never been on a sailboat it’s fun watching and learning from you guys.
I can only agree. And hopefully you will keep the channel alive with some adventure videos after you finished your trip around the world.
This is why I love your videos. Open ocean not much to see yet you manage to make your content interesting and engaging. Loving the 360deg camera angles too!
What a outstanding video. I've been in the process of moving over the last couple of months so I've missed a about six vids. However I'm extremely happy to sit back with a coffee and binge watch for the next couple of hours. Life's great much love and thanks for sharing your journey 🙏
My first reaction to 2 weeks at sea without the sight of land was " oh jesus "
I know you've done it before, but your bravery still astounds me.
Love a CZcams Sailing Channel with actual sailing! Best Wishes going forward!
Exactly - actual sailing!! Brilliant
Absolutely stunning photography and narration. Just gets better and better. Thanks so much.
Truly one of the best video’s on ocean passage. One really gets an accurate depiction of how it would feel to be out there.
I have been looking forward to this
Thanks for another lovely video. They keep getting better
We did the same crossing in February 2021. The only sign of civilization I remember seeing between St. Helena and Fernando was a few jets flying 35,000 feet overhead. Probably flying between Europe and Brazil or Argentina. It's very truly a remote part of the world.
Thank goodness for fiddles in the Galley. Amy’s 5 star cuisine!
Cheers!
10/10 for cooking while sailing and sewing the cover onto that rope!🥇
Loved seeing the catch and cook and the challenges of preparing food at sea. Thank you
Amazing as ever.
Still the best sailing channel.
Love your long passage films and love it when you explain the sail plans and what you are doing with the boat. I can sail but I don’t have the offshore experience like you do and I have learnt so much from your explanations.
Matt and Amy if you have not been back to the UK in 6 years you will get a shock how expensive things have become and the atmosphere has changed. I want to get out of here yesterday. It’s really quite depressing.
Truly loved this one. All of your episodes are first rate, but the shots of Florence with a “ bone in her teeth” and flying along as she was built to do, were thrilling. Great work, you two! You Rock, as a transoceanic team! 👍🏻😎👏🏻👏🏻
Rockin and rolling across the big blue sea! Dizzy ride feeling the boat moving which ever way. Always a joy to catch an empty seat on Florence! 🥂 cheers
You all should have called yourselves, “ Perseverance” as THAT is what you have an abundance of ..!!! ✅
Sure was Hoping you would go into Recife, haven’t gone there since 1997… oh well, Good show. 😎👍👏👌🥳
Another amazing video! All of it, thw filming, the editing, the narration, the music all contributes to a stunning production! Just plain sailing is good! My favorite part of cruising was the passages. You do it well! As with each video you leave me hungry for more!
great as always
Fabulous video capturing the thrills and spills of your ocean passage. Wonderful film making. Thanks for sharing.
Great sailing. You never disappoint me!
The open trade wind sailing clip (7 min 45secs) made it look like Matt was sat infront of a green screen with special affect waves put in afterwards 😂❤😂
We thought that too when editing it. But it is real!
@@SailingYachtFlorence it’s the best shot I’ve ever seen from onboard a boat showing the sea conditions! I almost felt sea sick watching it!
Great episode. Cant’t wait for the next one and the opportunity to learn the history of this Brazilian island I’d never heard of before. If the episode on this island will present its history in the same format you used for Namibia, I won’t be able to wait.
Fair winds, and good luck on Guyana.

Lazy Jacks. I was thinking about how much of a pain they can be when setting the main in a seaway. But then just how quickly I can really appreciate them when dousing it in the dark! You take me there, and I am so appreciative! Thank you. Fair winds and following seas!
I rigged stainless eye bolts between bulkheads and rigged hammocks when in rolly anchorages or passages. Cheap and effective--and once one gets used to them, really sound sleep. They also do not cause condensation in mattresses--there are no mattresses--just blankets. The good thing about hammocks is they can be clipped anywhere, even in the cockpit athwartships as a seat.
Having sailed and raced during my childhood I'm aware of the skills you must have acquired now to make difficult things look so easy. Your planning is impeccable, the knowledge of sails and conditions is spot on and the photography is also excellent, and every time I watch you guys I can't be anything but impressed. Kudos to you both, and all the best for the final legs of this home stretch. I shall miss you when you're done.
Thank you so mutch for all your good and down to earth movies, l love it. Very Best Regards Terje Bjørge, S/Y Quarterdeck
Love your video’s. You show rel sailing and what it is like.
Incredible footage thanks!!!!!
Fair Winds and Following Seas. Greetings from South Africa! Enjoy!
Stunning video cinematography. I really enjoy what you’re posting. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures. I really hope one day you can make it into a full length movie! I’m sure it will inspire other people and would be a box office hit! Keep up the great work.
I was surprised in last top sail ,Florence and crew not mention ,
Superb use of horizon lock, great voiceovers, sailing... just a joy to watch!
A tip from my days at sea, when in a rolling condition we put the cushions, pillows and our great big old lifejackets (non inflateable type) under the matress to wedge oursleves in which seemed to work really well.
A small spray bottle with any alcoholic beverage is handy for when landing a fish... just spritz a bit onto the gills, they pass out.
Wow! Sailors! You two are the best. Thank you for this video.
I so much look forward to your videos. I am hooked to your adventurous journey. You guys make it look so easy which I am sure is not. I am from Malta which we are surrounded by the sea but I am not as courageous like you. When I don’t sea land I panic. So you guys just give me a glimpse of what the ocean offers. Hope you’ll have a safe journey of what lays ahead of you and will be eagerly looking forward to your next video in Brazil.
You have mastered the art of really showing the waves And conditions . Other channels the photography flattens out the waves. When you get back home you will have enough skills to make documentaries for other people
Yet another fantastic episode, thank you!
Another great video. I really enjoy following you guys on your adventure. Looking forward to the next one.
Hi really enjoy your adventures , thanks a lot and Happy sailing
Matt & Amy, been giving a thumbs up for ages but you've hit another level - this is brilliant, setting a new standard for YT Sailing channels, and I watch most of them. Great stuff!
Great filming guys!
Thanks for the great video, enjoy yourselves
Just over 7 knots for a 37ft yacht is really good. Your little Oyster is a thoroughbred indeed. Great film with beautiful photography. We'll follow you across the seas one day....soon.
Love your videos guys. Stay safe, cant wait for the next one.
For rough weather meal prep, I used a plywood shelf with holes for bowls, (we never used plates while at sea) and this plywood sat on blocks about two inches high and locked in place over the usual bench, and could be removed and stowed as needed. It was possible using this old sailing ship trick to fill several bowls and cups without fear of spillage--as long as they are not over-filled--so we always used tall polycarbonate mugs instead of china teacups when under way.
I have done quite a lot of ocean sailing, and I often struggle to describe it to my friends and family. Your lovely video absolutely sums it up. Well done! I usually , when asked what to take on an ocean crossing, is 'take a lot of books to read'. The periods of terror are much less than you think.
Stunning
We have just binged watched your entire vlogs in the past month and loved them all. So we're patiently waiting on your next one. What an amazing journey you're on.
Hi guys this is a no bull shit channel I so much enjoy watching you guys in action be safe on your travels
Just glorious, guys xx 🤗🤗 It seems to me that you're right up there at the pinnacle of quality and excellence in sharing these videos...It is truly magical. Superb, thank you👏👏
@Sailingyachtflorence.. I've never met a Nigerian prince before!!! Damn but I bet the parties are wild! I'm skint though, so I hope it's all on expenses, cheers!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for sharing what I can only see thru you!!!
You have taken us to those of day's of yor. It is such treat, sail on.
I suppose I should wait until the first advert is finished before I Like and comment how brilliant you content is.
Great to see Irka from Ukraine in your Video as you said good bye to St. Helena! We met her Sailing in Madagascar! Guess the sailing world is small. Fair winds!
Don't you love the Insta 360 camera? You've got great sailing footage in this video.
my led strip contraption seem to be still working. i'm glad to see taht.
Kisses...
Marco
Still working perfectly of course Marco! It gets lots of use and has made life easier on night watches :-) THANK YOU!
Thank you for your videos, I love them. Hello from South Africa.
This did look like one of your easier passages, excluding cooking dinner in those heavy swells! It must have been more relaxing and less stress not having to navigate around a lot of ship traffic, and not having to deal with thunderstorms. As always, looking forward to the next episode and learning a bit about an island I had never heard of until watching this video.
Nice catch that was a beautiful Dorado
We look forward to your exceptional videos. We learn so much about how to be better sailors and travelers to other cultures.
We LOVED the video! You two make it look so easy but we know that it was rough. Thank you both!
Damn, your cooking makes me so hungry. There's something about a simple meal prepared fresh on a boat like that...
Enjoyed as always…I can only think back to one long passage that was as pleasant as yours with stable winds and moderate seas….enjoy while you can! Thx, Andrew
Wow, you guys should go further down south to appreciate beauty “Paraty”, “Angra dos Reis” and “Ubatuba” and live all Brazilian hospitality! Have a nice and safe trip!
Agree with many on here - definitely my fav sailing channel. Keep up the excellent work Amy and Matt.
With regard to your comment about event-free South Atlantic,
I remember that in Brasil, any storms we experienced were more of localised thunder-and-lightening affairs rather than big winds, and very little (if any) came in off the sea - the tropical heat of the interior, particulary Amazonas, was by far the greatest source of thermal activity.
Also the Argentine pampas which was the greatest influence on our daily routine in Rio Grande do Sul.
I think down south in Patagonia, the situation of-course is different, but that's thousands of miles off your course, so no bother.
Love the new music, it is a bit more fitting for you two..Love watching the both of you
We have great confidence in your sailing abilities; however, as you sailed away from St Helena we felt a lot of anxiety. We care for you so much and weeks away from land is a huge deal. I hope you don’t mind if we send up a request for your safe and sound travels. Please take extra special care when you arrive in Brazil. Kentucky
Thank you, grate fotages
What an outstanding video. Arguably one of your best. The clarity and shot selection was simply outstanding. Some good tips also gleaned from this video too. Yhank you 🙏
I look forward to your videos. Great job. Thank you.
My favourite Chanel to watch. So inspiring 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Too wonderful, thank you for sharing.
Awesome guys
Love the slow motion 😍
I did this about two weeks behind you! We’re in Grenada now.
I would think the constant sailing downwind with the boat rolling would be exhausting.
Loved this vid :) Thanks for taking us with you!
Nice job producing this video... like the way you put it all together. All the best, stay safe!
Awesome videos, thanks!
Beautiful sailing!!!
Great video.
Thank you for sharing.
