My first long essay was in high school, a comparison of Nazi Germany and fascist Italy, the similarities, the differences, the results. Both dictators relied heavily on conspiracy theories about great enemies out there, both relied on disgruntled citizens, who'd either lost their jobs, or were somehow just nationalistic. Both, also relied heavily on a very divided opposition, and one far more inclined to be democratic, ie discuss things in a parliament. In germany, the result was that the Nazi party became the largest party among many, and when a crisis came Hitler was chosen to have the government in January of 1933. At that point he enacted a famous law giving him dictatorial powers, after which there was no saving democracy anymore. There are similarities with Trump and the USA, but this is always been the the way any dictator takes power. So comparisons with Hitler directly are not entirely accurate, one can see similarities. Interestingly, one reason for Hitler's success was the fact that he put the economy into the hands of a capable man who was not even a member of the Nazi party
Ken buck was my "representative" when he held a veterans issues town hall with less than 2 days of notice. I was working out of state at the time, took unscheduled pto and booked a last minute flight to attend. After showing up 15 minutes late to a 1 hour meeting, spending 20 minutes congratulating himself on the trump tax cuts, and complaining about not having enough money to properly fund veterans programs, the obvious question of how tax cuts would increase funding for the VA was asked. After he and Phil Roe outright lied to a room full of veterans, I called out his obvious lie and he threatened to have the armed police officer in the room arrest me. I am a 100% disabled veteran. Ken buck and all the rest of the gop can pound sand as far as I'm concerned.
