I learned about resetting my Tesla Battery from Kim Java and as this video shows it does work you just need to get it to a very low state of charge so the BMS system can see the full potential of a charge. Hope this helps! - Auta a dopravní prostředky

The comments at around 5 min are hilarious, LMAO
Thanks for the video! I’m always looking for ways to improve the accuracy of my mileage readings. I got my M3 LR in 2020 with 322 miles of range, and nowadays I pretty much get similarly to you - around 280-290. I read on a Tesla forum a while back when I first got my car, the following procedure in getting mileage accuracy: try to put your car at various states of charge (20ish %, 30ish %, 40ish %, etc.. 80ish %). And each time you’ve dropped down to a state of charge, let your car go to “sleep” for at least 4 hours or so, meaning, no logging into the app, turning off certain functions like cabin overheat protection, sentry mode, etc, that keep your car “awake”. You used to be able to swipe The Tesla widget on the iPhone urns it would tell you if you’re car was asleep. Anyhow, allowing your car to “sleep” for several hours at various states of charge allows for it to take more accurate readings over time... Like maybe several weeks ti a few months. I gave this a try for a couple months but it was when I first got my car when I still had my full range.
I’d be interested to see if you’d consider giving this a try sometime and seeing the result. I travel 100% for work and usually leave my car at 90% when I’m out of town for 2 weeks. I live in Austin and my overheat protection kicks in a lot and I get a hearty amount of battery drain by the time I’m back home for the weekend.
If anyone is interested in the technical post on it …

On a side, why are all of you Tesla CZcams channel guys sexy AF 😎
Gjeebs I love your sense of humor man, you keep me laughing 😂 yet you’re also informative, I just love your videos man!
Appreciate it!
The farting made me subscribe
@@GarrettWitty This is the audience I want to build
She is my mother also and I also have a MY LR, so I am probably your European twin brother! ♊️🤣
Sames here. So many funny moments. But "the pig is charged..." moment made me and my son literally laugh out loud. Keep doing you.
if you can or cant "reset " your battery depends upon what kind of battery (LFP?) your car has! I tried to do this in my 2020 Model3 and got the same results that you got Gjeebs!!
A Tesla Service technician sent me a slightly different procedure for rebalancing the battery. It has worked for me in the past.
Please allow the SOC to drop down to
30% and let it rest for 4 hours. This will
allow the cells to rest and allow the
battery calculate a better resting state.
Then charge the vehicle back up to your
comfortable charge percentage or 100%
SOC. Once fully charged leave the
vehicle plugged in for a few hours and
this will allow the cells to stabilize at the
upper limit. This will need to be
performed for a few weeks to maximize
the calculated range.
Another great one. Keep ‘em coming. What did you have strapped to your headrests?
Dog cover for the back seats
It was Kim Java, aka: Like Tesla, who convinced us to get our Model X. I really miss their "Day in the Life" videos with their Teslas. Loved watching them with their kids, and how their Teslas fit into their lives.
My experience with rated rated recalibration has been about the same. Rated range always seems to be higher the lower my SoC is. I’m averaging between 275 and 280mi on my 2018 P3D-. Down about 10% from the original 310. I keep everything in sport mode.
I wonder what would happen if I changed to normal or chill for like a month.
I thought that the model 3 needs to sit for a couple of hours with sentry mode off so that the contractors will open and it can make an accurate measurement. I think you would get a better result to do it again but let it sit with sentry mode off for a few hours before charging. I think it would also be better to charge slower at home to 100% and let it do that overnight so that the charging system has more time to even everything out.
Exactly, clearly he doesn't know what he's doing.
So what exactly is the process to do it better? Like specifically? I’m interested in doing something like this myself.
Yeah, it’s based on your watt hour per mile and then divide that number by the kW/h available in the pack. Just change to % and you won’t ever care about the total mile number. It’s like with your cell phone. We use percentage and not hours of talk time or hours of video watching. If you’re driving fast or spirited you know you’re going to drain the battery faster than if you’re driving 55 on a highway behind a semi.
I really like to new pink wrap...Nice!!!
Gjeebs I think I need to do this with my Model Y also. The vast majority of our charging is at home with our level 2 Tesla charger. The range now at 80% is showing 235 miles. It used to be about 280 miles at 80%. It’s scary to think about driving it down really low but I’ll give it a try.
Need to run it to 0% leave it to sit for a few hours then charge up to 100% and leave it half a day or so that gave me a lot of miles back on the displayed range
How many miles range did you get back.
Happy Thursday, Ben.
Fantastic information at 11 minutes in
I thought you were supposed to take it down around 2-3 % then level 2 charge it back to 100% once or twice to really get the BMS synced.
Tap the percent on your screen, you will see what the car's estimated range ( You can toggle back and forth). You could have found this out after you charged to 100 percent. Another thing you can do is buy a OBD reader which will give you the actual current estimate of your useable battery, and range among a bazillion other useful metrics. Your viewers should know that it's a good practice to allow your car to sleep often which helps with battery balancing and allowing your BMS to accurately estimate your range correctly. Drive your car down to 10-15 percent maybe once a month if you are not using the full pack often can help as well, or just stop thinking about. If there's a issue with pack the car and Tesla will tell you. I stopped topping up my battery for daily driving unless I had a small trip planned the next day. I also have a OBD reader and helps me better understand my car and what it is doing.
Did they have to remove your ceramic coating before installing the wrap?
I hadn't put a coat on the car in a while so they didn't need to. Just a normal wash before
My previous iPhone still shows the miles on the battery scale when I go back and forth. Apparently it never updated.
Gjeebs, love the vids…what’s the camera you are using?
GoPro hero 10
Good calibration video BUTT...to measure how much "battery" you have left you need to measure how many kw/h can be stuffed back into your pack(car). that's exactly your leftover battery capacity... a
I think they picture a Mary Kay sales rep who won it in their yearly contest. They used to always have pink Cadillacs
"...knocking at the back door." 🤣
For some reason after updating my app when I go to look at the charging section, it only shows % when I'm moving the little scroll around to different amounts. Before, it would show miles as well. Oh well
Yea mine doesn’t show it either. Annoying
It toggles between km and %
No, it doesn’t.
Same thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago after updating on my present iPhone.I have a previous I phone that still shows the miles when I slide the battery scale back and forth. Looks like it never updated.
More people need to watch this… and stop thinking their batteries are degrading too quickly…
I love the knocking at the back door. Lol laughing so hard.
Hi Gjeebs, I have a Model 3 SR+ LFP. It is said to charge to 100% at all times pretty much, even on Tesla's website. I have about 6,000 miles into my model 3, I have lost about 6 miles already when fully charged. I have the 252 mile range, and it now charges at 247 on a full charge, am I doing anything wrong? I am new to Tesla, just curious on your thoughts. Thank you sir!
My friend Andrew has the same one and no you’re totally fine
One thing that might be affecting the batteries range is how much you are using the AC. I have been running my sister around for errands recently and she loves keeping the car ice cold inside which affected my range drastically. Also my AC filters was in need of being changed until the other day when I changed them out. Smells much better inside now. Just my two cents.
My 2022 tesla model S rated for 404 range but in real world I only get from 280 to 340 depending on how I drive best drive scenario 340 max
How much was the cost of that charge?
I’m sure he has free charging miles from his tesla referrals.
Actually woke my wife up laughing at the McD’s blowout…
The Stats app lets you keep track of your battery degradation
Buy a OBD reader and use Scan My Tesla and see what your BMS sees the size of your battery and compare with size when new. I've seen my range go up and down but my BMS stays consistent with how many kW my battery it estimates. I'm at 50k kms and I am estimating about 5 percent degradation.
Yep that's the best way to do it.
New owner of a MYLR 2020 with 29,500 on the Odometer and at 100% charge mine gets minimum of 294 miles. Did the single percentage digit, waited 2 hrs, charge to 100% and still gets 294 miles. 😅
80%=235 miles
BMS needs several hours to record the battery level. This has been well documented on non S and X models. Run it down below 10%, let it sit for 3 hours then charge to 95% again let it sit for several hours.
Also, why not do this at home on 240V? that is my plan sometime in the next couple of months. I'm 2 years in with the Y.
@@whattheschmidt I would think home is preferred.
Mcdonalds will always "Get the door knocking" 😅
I love your videos and they are super funny but what’s the reason for why you choose pink?

This is awesome, I will say though I was told that it isn't good for the battery to charge to 100 percent due to a higher rate of degradation and it hurts the health of the battery. You also shouldn't discharge those batteries as well it destroys them. My relatives were the ones that told me this from personal experience and the cost for a new battery is crazy it isn't worth it not to mention the pollution they make in the environment after they break down. They say that they are better for the environment but the way the batteries are disposed of after they are worn out isn't good. Personally, I think we would be smarter to stay with petrol vehicles at that point. Overall you did a great job on this video and I love your content keep it up!
The batteries themselves do not pollute anything - there is no lead acid component or liquid in them. There is also a lot of great recycling solutions coming!

@@maxflight777 can you give more details?
Most videos on CZcams leave out the fact that there is a buffer of about 5% to 7% used by Tesla battery management system for just-in-case situations. For example, if you are driving long distance and you are out of charge and your Tesla's screen shows 0% charge, your Tesla car can still drive for another 15 - 20 miles due to the fact that Tesla already has put a buffer in your battery management system to prevent that your batteries becoming 100% depleted which will likely cause damage your battery. So, your 11% loss of range (which you mention in your video) minus this 5% to 7% buffer means that you mostly likely and actually have about 94% to 97% of your originally capacity and range which your car has been originally certified for when new.
Electrical engineering in a Gjeebs video.
Lol you can’t reset the BMS. Tesla can as long as you agree to follow their charging instructions. Additionally, many on various forums that had this done, found little benefit long term.
Agua? No A-gee-yah lol
You should charge it to 100% once a month or so to keep it up
Surely a reset just confuses the system that the battery has more capacity than it really does, as you are removing the information needed to more accurately assess the capability of the pack. I guess, you will know when it says you have 40 miles range, but it won't move.
Only 37k? Wow. For some reason I thought it had more miles.
Kim Java 😍
Aahh Kim Java, that makes sense. I now see where you're good looks come from😉
I was looking for a Kim Java comment, @Gjeebs cracks me up
One trick is to take your current mileage and divide it by your percentage remaining. So when you were at 15 miles and 5% left you do this math(15/.05=300) It has a variance within the percent due to each % having roughly 3-4% within it. But it has worked for me to do quick math to see total range.
when you open the doors yuk white with pink
Saw a pink Tesla in North County San Diego about a week ago and I wonder if it was you. 52,700 miles and degradation is showing to be 11%. I very rarely supercharge and typically only charge the car to 75%. Will try to do this again, or maybe I got a dud. Car is approaching 5yrs old.
I took the pink off now haha
Your Tesla battery actually last 37,000 miles and is still going? Wow, good for you.
🖤🖤
My model 3 LR RWD new was 500km / 310 miles with 100% and now has 79350km or 49305 miles, now 100% charge shows 485km / 301 miles that’s really good, only losing 3% thats very low degradation
Yea that’s awesome
Unfortunately, my Model 3 RWD drops 7% from 50k miles to 75k miles according to the display. The degradation can get a lot worse as rime goes unlike what people say based on Model S (18650 cells) data.
If you charge as per tesla recommendations then it's not true. Simply your BMS is not calibrated. Drive from full to 0 to see how many kwh left. Everything else is a joke
Love the pink. Said that before and I will say it again. Still wanna wrap ours but we don't know what we want on it yet. Maybe a sasquatch. Maybe in red/orange. Maybe a red/orange sasquatch.
5:00🇨🇦 🤣
Why didn't you show the miles on the Tesla screen when it was at 100%?!?
You are incorrect that the Tesla app does show the miles on the charging screen. You have to tap the percent at the top under your cars name and it will then show miles.
Yea but only for how your car currently sits not what it could be at 100%
@@Gjeebs Ah yes that’s true. Why did Tesla remove that? So stupid!
@@Resist4 haha idk but I wish they didn't. Probably because people constantly check it.
Mines a 2018 LRRWD 88,000 miles, 100% charge is 300, was 276, thanks to your mom Kim Java. !🤣
10:59 🤣🤣🤣🤣😳
I don’t think ANYONE drives their Tesla as much as I do I drive literally 250miles a day 7 days a week I supercharge and chademo about 3 times a day it’s really confusing because my battery health is at 90% I’m also at 85,000 miles
it would have been nice to see you actually show us how to reset the battery. your video was mildly confusing in that respect. i watched the entire thing and thought i missed you performing the reset.
Reset was the 100% charge
Mine was at 10% at 60000 mi, per Tesla technician. That reset doesn’t work
You actually *gained*my respect when you wrapped your car in pink. I would have done the same thing for my daughter back in the day. :) However you did lose a little of my respect for eating at McDonald’s lol. Also great job on that scientific explanation of why supercharging is bad for the battery. I’m here for the science and entertainment. ;)
My M3 after 18k miles says 232 miles should be 253.
Same 238 here. Been kinda wanting to do this test to see if I gain range.
@@Kevlvn01 I had Tesla log into the car and they did a diagnostic and said everything looks fine. There is no issue with the battery.
