Part II
The second part is named Rebellion (Russian: Схватка, romanized: Skhvatka, lit. 'Skirmish'). It starts with a brief description of the first part plot.
Maxim reveals the true purpose of the towers to Guy, who does not believe at first but is convinced when his enthusiasm fades as they get farther from the towers. They arrive in a city ruined by atomic bombing and inhabited by mutants. Maxim tries to convince mutants to start a rebellion against the Unknown Fathers, but, being too weak, they refuse. Maxim then decides to seek help from another powerful country on Saraksh, the Islands Empire. Mutants give Maxim a bomber airship to fly for the Empire.
As Guy and Maxim travel the airship, Guy is again hit by the towers' radiation. He starts hysterically screaming of his loyalty to Maxim and hugging him. To stop it, Maxim collides the airship into the Tower and destroys it. After crash-landing at the shore, Maxim and Guy discover an abandoned Imperial White Submarine. There, they find evidence that Islands Empire is even worse mass-murdering fascist regime which would not help their goals.
Meanwhile, the Unknown Fathers are planning an invasion of the neighbouring country of Khonti. As soon as Maxim and Guy return to Fatherland, they are captured and sent to war along with fellow prisoners, where Guy is killed in action. Funk, following Strider's orders, finds Maxim and takes him out of the war back to the capital. Fatherland is defeated, and the State prosecutor, who was an active supporter of the war, realizes that the Unknown Fathers will execute him for failure. He contacts Maxim and reveals the location of the Tower Control Center, urging him to use it for a coup d'état. Maxim sneaks in, but instead of following the prosecutor's plan, he blasts the Center with explosives.
As he exits the Center, he is confronted by angry Strider. He berates and beats Maxim and reveals himself as undercover spy from Earth. Maxim, a well-intentioned amateur, ruined the plan to save Fatherland and the rest of the planet that Strider has been preparing for decades. Strider tells Maxim to fly home to Earth. Maxim refuses and offers his help on one condition: another brainwashing center can never be built. After a fight and a heated argument, Strider reluctantly agrees. The final sequence shows rebels overthrowing the Unknown Fathers.
The super human fight was cool. I noticed that they are both blond, maybe as an indicator. But why in the 2nd movie did they start calling him Mak, instead of Max? (or maybe the translation was wrong)

This is actually based on a Russian sci-fi book called Obitaemyy ostrov (Inhabited island/Prisoners of Power). It's a really good adventure novel and this movie does not do it justice at all. I honestly recommend it to everyone, since it's also written by probably the most famous Soviet sci-fi writers from back in the day.

The film is based on a series of books by Soviet writers the Strugatsky Brothers and follows the original rather loosely. The book is called "Inhabited Island".
This is actually a Russian movie, and the original name in Russian is "Обитаемый остров," which literally means "the inhabited Island." The actor who plays Max, Vasiliy Stepanov, has had a tragic fate. He became very successful after this movie, and his career started to go up. He was recognized by Russian "Playboy" as the most handsome Russian actor. A lot of directors sexually harassed him and forced him to participate in various gay orgies to get cast. Then he was raped by the director. That deeply traumatized him, and he became a drug addict and developed schizophrenia. On April 10, 2017, Stepanov, in a state of depression, threw himself out of the window of the 5th floor of an apartment building on Davydkovskaya Street in Moscow. He sustained multiple serious injuries and fractures. Now he is very poor and used to work some side jobs like a janitor, loader, and waiter since no director wants to cast him for new movies. After he fell off the window of his own apartment, he became disabled, and his parents who provided for him are now in debt since his surgery was costly. In this movie, he was 22. Now he is 38, very poor, disabled, with schizophrenia, in debt, and lives with his parents who provide for him. When the movie came out in 2008, I even got an autograph from him when I was 9 in Moscow. I also noticed that he disappeared all of a sudden. I was deeply saddened when I learned his fate. I also saw him in person like 2 years ago; he looks nothing like in this movie. He looks unhealthy, way older than his age, and skinny. The toxicity of the Russian movie industry, sexual harassment from homosexual directors, rape, instant success at a very young age, and crazy competition drove him crazy. He lost his sanity and motivation for life. All actors whom you see in this movie are now very famous, rich, and successful in Russia, some of them even played in Hollywood movies. But Vasiliy is now broke, disabled, and mentally ill; he lives off disability paycheck since he can't work.
You wanted to be like America and holywood. Well now you have rapist directors like holywood. You have victim blaming. You have an elite that keeps your money in Swiss banks and Spanish property. You have worse versions of american style movies. You have children being kidnapped and sold to israelis and americans. You got what you WANTED and so did Stepanov.
Russia where the reality is worse than the movie.

It's like a cross between planet of the apes and the time travel movie where the guy invents a time travel old timey carriage, and end up in the future with the Nemoi and the race that split off and live underground.
