I've got all those on preorder but now I'm a little iffy... this preorder culture makes it difficult to wait and see if they're any good before buying, as they may not be available by then (At least from Japan, buying local (£) is too expensive).

4 years later, and this is one of mafex most popular figures of all time.
It's amazing how quality of all these high end figures are going down.
And then you have things like the Hasbro Power Ranger line and Marvel Legends which has slowly been getting better and better lol

Huh? All the big reviewers pay for their own figures. They would have to make a disclaimer if the companies paid for them to keep the figures cuz otherwise it'd be a conflict of interest. I don't mind the scale between Spidey and Venom. It pretty well matches some of the art from Absolute Carnage.
@@KingInBlack24 your call man. But Eddie Brock's height is listed at 6'3, Spider-Man's at 5'10. Even in his first appearance when we see Eddie he looks as big as Thor and starts pressing like 500lbs. The symbiote if anything should only make him bigger.
We only have humongous Venom figures, ugly ones that don't look like either Eddie or Venom (*cough, Hasbro, *cough*), and the only one we got that is as close to perfect as a Venom can get, is 100+ dollars and isn't even the right scale with his other very expensive counterparts. We don't ask much, especially if we're paying 100 bucks for a 6 inch, it's a 3rd of the price for Hot Toys...
Wolverine from the ML 2-pack with the Hulk looks better. I actually display him in my xmen animated lineup with one of the heads from the love triangle pack.
From a distance, it looks great but the small details he pointed out really blows. The colors are so off it makes it look kinda cheap smh
Yeah mafex venom could have been a bit bigger ... but I’m not gonna gripe about the scaling issues between the two because at least the mafex venom figure turned out great I absolutely love it ! And owning the pair of them makes it even better especially for taking photos

As an artist, you're theory is correct! The blue black issue is basically light against black. The blue spots represents the light bouncing off of a black image. Great review BTW. I wanted this fig but mafex is too expensive imo. Their toys like most companies are hit or miss. With prices within the $100 range, I don't expect trial and error experiences that's similar to bigger companies like hasbro. Thanks again!

I like that you said all the bad things about the figure and gave it a low rating. Many would ignore the flaws because "CHILDHOOD" but you, the most honest reviewer, did not. We really need more reviewers like you that talk about issues instead of saying only good things and ignoring the rest.

In Spiderman the animated series, when Spidey meets the X Men, Wolverine stripes are blue. Also in the cover art of X Men the animated series . i think in X Men vs. Street Fighter . So my guess they pick that color scheme .
They still choose to put an image on the box where the stripes are black. I feel it's reasonable that a figure should attempt to copy the look from the artwork on the package for said figure.

Considering since day one it was shown to have blue stripes idk that can be a valid "knock" against it. Don't get me wrong I passed because of that very thing but I won't hold it against the final product. Same goes for the claws. That said there are a lot of issues. For me it comes down to the paint aps. No reason they shouldn't have been applied with some better care. I'm hoping that they'll do a release with black stripes and up the paint quality. Considering Spider-man got a second release with "comic" detailing it seems pretty likely. I'd also like to see an extension to the bicep peg to alleviate the issue with the arms falling off. Past that I find the rest to be design choices that I'm ok with. I know it won't be for everyone but for me fix the paint colors/applications and the bicep and you have a solid release.
Yeah, we did know it was shown to be that way but it's still not supposed to be that way and products usually change from the proto images to the final release. They chose to leave the problems. People need to know that before buying.
@@AnthonysCustoms If it wasn't an open window product and images on the back showed the stripes as black I'd agree but thats not the case. Any site you order it from shows it as blue. If you buy it seeing it's clearly blue and expect black... That's on the purchaser not the company. Its actually one of my concerns related to the upcoming "no/reduced plastics in packaging" idea that's been circulated by toy companies going forward. Promo pics on the back with disclaimers "colors may vary" and the consumer being left to roll the dice that there wasn't some change made that they may not like since they have no way of seeing the final product until purchase. Here though that's simply not the case.
Damn it, i knew i should have waited for reviews before buying ... oh well, mine has been shipped and is in transit. Kind of worried for that Cyclops now ... They're Spider-Man was so good though!

I'm so disappointed. I was so looking forward to this figure because the Jim Lee design is my all time favorite design for Wolverine and Mafex screwed it up so bad. Thanks Anthony for saving me and alot of other people trouble of having to deal with a crap figure.
Noah Mint - Heads up, John Romita designed the first appearance tiger stripe uniform. Gil Kane changed his mask and what we see today was largely refined between Dave Cockrum and John Byrne. While it is the uniform Logan wore in some Jim Lee issues it is not a Jim Lee design.

That's very disappointing. I was also looking forward to this figure. The 2 hasbro ML versions are far superior in my opinion and even the red hulk series is much better. At least this is maybe better than the toybiz series 3....maybe. Thanks for saving me $100

Happy New Year, sir. Thanks for the honest review. The X-Men TAS Wolverine is my favorite version of the character (and I've read hundreds of Marvel Comics), and I was looking forward to a figure closest to that look. Since such a huge character had so many problems, it will help deter me from investing in the line. I appreciate it because it helps me plan out my collection.
Well I wanted this figure.. I thought during this review “well I’ll just paint it”. Then I heard Anthony’s voice in my head “but do you really want to paint a $100 figure?” Or “Should you have to paint a $100 figure?” 😥. At least your honest. Now I know. Other reviewers say it’s amazing. But your pointing out too many issues for $100. I dont know what to do.

Like the videos keep it going. But I just got my wolverine and ironically no problems with the paint and joints. Could be just a bad batch.

Old comic artist would use blue to shade black because it would print on the thin paper better. It's why batman's Cape is black and blue.
Yeah. It's not a new concept but people still don't get it. It's always just, "you must not read comics if you think they aren't blue." No... I just understand shading.

Rewatching this video because Mafex revealed their Gambit and I needed to remind me the reason why I cancelled Cyclops and Wolverine, lol.
Their Gambit looks really good in the promo pics as usual, but then the real figure arrives and it is like this one...
I'm glad you gave this a objective opinion instead of how some of the other reviewers have been praising this figure saying that this is a good figure. I think they had some ok figures, but most of their figures have had some major issues. Almost every reviewer loved their iron spider and hated the SHF version. I get if people don't like the SHF version, but it came out during the time of the movie and the MF came out almost a year later and the spider legs broke on nearly everyone and they still loved it. The hulk had the same falling apart issue but for some reason people loved it. I not saying that there is a perfect toy company, but call it how you review it. Thumbs up.
This figure is sold at relatively low prices by Japanese retailers. For example, my order of it from Amiami - with the cost of shipping included - cost only $78.03.

Man... for his price you can get 5 of the Legends Wolverine, or get the love triangle 3 pack and still have 30 dollars left. His price point is insane for what it is! Shold've been a USD 50 figure at max

@@AnthonysCustoms The art around "Fatal Attractions" i.e. X-Men #25 etc shows his stripes being the same color as his shoulders and gloves as far as I can tell. Personally black or blue doesn't really phase me, but black stripes are more iconic so I can understand the frustration.
I custom painted my stripes black and it couldn’t look better. Best thing I’ve done to this figure. The blue stripes bothered me
Problems with the shoulder pads breaking I had mine replaced with wolverine love triangle shoulder pads.

I just hated how long the claws are other than that I like this better than the marvel legends and Mezco
I saw another review of this figure where the unmasked head didn't even fit on the peg. The hole was too big in the head. I also noticed the stripes being sloppily painted even though they're sculpted in.
After seeing other reviews, I was still on the fence on this. After your video I decided to just cancel my pre-order. Thank you for this. Maybe they'll make a version 2.0 in the future who knows. The Cyclops I'm not sure either. When we got Spider Man, I think we all thought this would be a great figure.
I really just hate the blue stripes. i can't get past them... and it's a pass for me because of it. I said the same thing on another video about this figure and people jumped all over me with the "it's always been blue, you're remembering wrong" and junk like that. wtf? lol. i still have my old jim lee x-men comics and i own the cartoon series on dvd... they are BLACK. lol. always have been. Then people are like "it's how they were in Marvel vs Capcom"... and idk about that because i didn't play it... but that's an irrelevant point, regardless, because it's not a "video game" Wolverine. Long story short, THE STRIPES ARE BLACK!

So glad i didnt get this one. I wanted it as well- but definitely passing. I have carnage and superman on preorder. Definitely canceling those orders now. Hopefully mafex sees these reviews, and fixes these issues
Agreed, thats why only marvel legends i collect is the jim lee animated series figures.
I'm watching this video 4 years later, and I think this Mafex Wolverine is still the best looking tiger stripe Wolverine figure available, despite its shortcomings. So I do get why this Wolverine is still so desirable. I would recommend painting the tiger stripes black if that bothers you. I don't enjoy the Marvel Legends versions since they generally look too much like "kid's toys", and the Mezco one is just odd looking in its proportions and the cloth "sweater" it has.

In my opinion, this looks like a good Wolverine. The yellow, from what I've seen in all pictures, is fine. The blue stripes is iffy, I'll give you that. I just keep hearing you say it looks terrible, when I can barely tell it has a problem when you point it out.
my mafex spiderman's hands had really small holes so i had to resize all of them with a screwdriver just so they could fit on the pegs. mafex needs to up their game!
Anthony, someone on reddit made a good point about the joint. They may be trying to recycle it and use different bicep sleeves for different releases. That would explain the arm length. Still 100% ridiculous for a $100 figure. I expect zero forced reuse at that price. Really hope the other characters they have planned this year don’t bomb this hard.

Honestly thought this was a marvel legend on the thumbnail then the actual marvel legend shows up and is better....are you kidding me? And his claws are a joke. The blue stripes are kinda cool I dont mind it but the paintjob is depressingly bad. Thanks for biting this bullet hard for us. Saved me the 100 dollars damn

The revoltech in my opinion is superb mate..they're not to everyones taste regarding the joint system they use but if you know how to pose figures properly then its fine..i might also add the marvel legends one is also a top figure..!!
Would love to see more of Anthony's actual customs back on this channel, although the man could not possibly be busier with all his spinning plates & his planned line of figs. Hope my intent is not misunderstood

Medicom have to be one of the ballsiest companies in history! To knock out $100 figures like this with all the QC's and still knocking those prices up! Maaaaan! Fair play! 👏👏👏 Thing I hate the most about medicom(mafex) is they haven't earned their price tags.. They went from a pretty mediocre QC riddled company to a triple A(price wise) company virtually overnight! And they simply didn't earn it! And have never earned it in my view despite the fact I am a fan of some of their products. It's amazing to me that they still produce these mediocre quality products but keep getting more expensive! And folks are still buying them! This "pre Order" culture that we are living in is all kinds of fucked.. We need to start looking at ourselves folks. lol 💖🐱👤✌

I love how the figure is nearly $100, and right away you can see there's absolutely no shading anywhere on the figure, making it immediately look super flat and cheap. The old Toybiz ML Wolverine (the first one) even had better paintwork than this!

I've watched you make you own figure in the past. Well, kinda. I think you were using some sort of thing on the computer making something. Don't hate me I know I probably sound dumb at this point because I probably have no clue as to what I'm talking about. But if you haven't done it yet, maybe you should try to make your own custom Wolverine and make it right. Make it look like how it should. The right scale, sculpt, paint, everything. Wolverine is one of my favorite Marvel comic book heroes out there and I trust that you could do it right. Just a suggestion of course. You obviously don't have to. I just think that it would be really cool.

It's blue because the base drawn that they use is the vs charging image which appears in marvel super heroes vs street fighter. But if they based his wolverine in that is sopouse to be ultra buff

The biggest thought I had during this whole review besides “Really, $100?” was “I wonder how those bone claws would look on that first appearance wolverine”. Not good to be drifting off in thought on that over the subject being reviewed, but it just is so disappointing for the price.

Honestly, if the figure was like $50 or so, it would be great. These $100 Mafex figures, so far, seem to have too many issues that just simply can't be ignored after dropping that kind of cash on it.
What a disgraceful figure just like my loose jointed Venom that I never play with. They should be ashamed for selling crap like this. Great review!
