- Dame Hilda, arguably the greatest mezzo-soprano England has ever produced, bravely recreates one of her finest Covent Garden triumphs----that of Azucena in Act 2 from Verdi's Il Trovatore.
With brazen aplomb she skilfully navigates the more demanding passages laid down by the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi .
On the piano is Dr Evadne Hinge---an accompanist of many talents.

Hinge and Bracket. - Hudba
I think it is very arguable that Dame Hilda was Britain's best ever mezzo-soprano.
Dear, you're not playing the game!
Dame Janet Baker had nothing on Dame Hilda Bracket 😎
Yeah! Eat yer heart out, Kathleen Ferrier!
the finest to ever sport a pair of knackers anyway
I haven't seen Hinge and Bracket for some years, 😂😂 I'd forgotten just how fabulously funny they were, bless them both💗💗
I had the huge privilege of seeing the Ladies twice in the 1980s. Best evenings ever. Such talent on all levels. Sadly missed.
What a wonderful exsperience to have had
Patrick has a phenomenal voice. Bravo
So sad that dear George has passed. Loved him.
Had the huge pleasure of seeing them a few times they were fabulous
I was fortunate to have attended the BBC taping of their shows in London after having seen the "ladies" at the Edinburgh festival. They were completely in character every minute they were on stage with some double entendre banter through out. Just brilliant!!
Vale Evadne and Hilda. ❤❤
I trust that professional opera singers then and now recognise the musical brilliance of the two ladies. There like may not come again and sadly young people today will never love opera or operetta.
Technically, that frequent transition between head and chest voice is extremely difficult, he masters it completely.
Indeed he does/did. It never ceased to amaze me how flawless and effortless he made that transition sound. Just think how much work went into making it look that easy and natural!
I saw them at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon my friend refused to believe they were both men. A wonderful act even when they were on the radio.
I have the pleasure of telling you My 80 year old aunt and I had the biggest fall out back then...whist watching them ON TV... I dared to say they both Dr Evadne and Dame Hilda were in fact two men... My Aunt was horrified & said I was disgusting, and where did I get such thoughts? !!! I tried again to explain the charictures... and she asked me to leave !! I never attempted to tell her these "ladies" were not...Woman, ever again And, she remained a devotee !!! 100% true !!
We lived in same town so knew of Patrick before fame heard him sing many times wonderful.
She switches effortlessly❤ to Italian of course.
Love them
I love this clip. A sublime class in how to convey thoughts through mime.
Sublime...simply sublime.
Freude, nichts als Freude...dass ist sensationell
Such amazing talent. Bravo. you have made my day.
I am so glad that I saw Dame Hilda and Dr Hinge live. What a night that was!
Philip Meers
I agree, I saw them live at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon they were superb. I also enjoyed their radio series.
We got tickets to see them record thier television series, many years ago now dahling.
Astonishing talent
Patrick was a unique, and much missed talent. He did have regular singing lessons,to keep his voice in good order,BUT the natural talent was there to start with.
Vale Patrick.
Just magnificent 👌👏
What fun
Can’t watch it enough. Tewkesbury Tellman. Yes.
Encore! Encore!
Yessssssssssssss!
Christopher Underwood singing with Dame Hilda.
Chris Underwood was my English Literature teacher at school. Where is he now?
A brilliant male voice. But a male voice in sympathy with female voice. Tremendous talent.
(23 January 1942-11 May 2002)
R.I.P. God bless them both.
She sounds just like the late comedian Anna Russell giving opera fans the low-down on Wagner's Ring Cycle.
Tewksbury was extremely talented.
He later became Head of Vocal Studies at the Royal Academy in Glasgow.
Why is the image out of synch with the sound? Is it CZcams at fault or my laptop?
The road to manderley clip has vanished.
I first saw the ladies at a small gay club off Soho Square in London in the early 70s. At the time no one thought they would get any where. So wrong.
Im kinda lost on this. What is this ?
He’s miming surely?
Never! Hinge was far too good too allow that to happen. Yes, the lip sync is out in this but mime? Not on your nelly!
Such a pity that the lip synch is way off
