    As pilots we're always learning and it sounds like you got a good lesson that day. Don't be too hard on yourself, you were safe and always in control...and those conditions are some of the worst you'll find in VFR with general aviation. This should give you confidence. Kudos for publishing.

    That looked like a really difficult trip Jon. The cameras caught that one really big jolt well. I wouldn't say that you film to highlight what went wrong because usually it doesn't but I do know what you mean. We have always said our videos are primarily for self review but you are always very honest in your comments to camera and your voice overs and this is what a lot of people appreciate about your channel. Well done, take care and stay safe in these difficult times.

    Well done Jon! Made me laugh as I know exactly how you were feeling. I'm still getting used to our Rockwell Commander I have a share in, and it helps knowing I'm not the only one who gets out of the cockpit with my knees shaking and needing a drink! You had all the essentials covered and the rest will follow the more you fly her (or so I keep telling myself). Well done for going up in those conditions. Made for an entertaining video, and there's nothing like experience under your belt 👌

I'm a Ham radio operator and I have had to have three different callsigns, first for my foundation licence MW6IVW then for my intermediate licence 2W0EXZ and finally for my Full Licence MW0MDV. Each time it took a good fortnight to get them right and even now I sometimes make a mistake and use ether my foundation or intermediate call sign. Love your Vlogs, they are great. would love to have been a pilot. just have to satisfy myself by flying models and flight simming.

    Flights like that build your mettle. And the uncontrollable trembling does eventually subside. :-) Be careful the 'I've got to get this ******* thing down' mentality overriding a prudent go-around, as that's really the only danger in these circumstances. Fly in these conditions frequently enough & you start to enjoy them. Infrequent-passengers, often less so. :-D

  • @austinformedude

  • @flybe146
    @flybe146 Před 4 lety

    Jon, you coped quite well I suppose but can I make a suggestion, I used to sort of specialize in flying in those gusty windy conditions in fact just pure foul weather was, in the end, the only conditions I would fly in and I am going to suggest you fly more and more and more in those conditions because my god you will gain so much confidence, I know of an instructor who will help you to cope with those conditions and show you how to deal with them if you need to do so.

  • @mikeyswingsacrossthesky2244

    Interesting to say the least, but once the knees stopped I guess you would have realised just what you achieved in this flight and the old addage "a good pilot is always learning" is well applied for this flight. You are back on an upward learning curve more flight and it will flatten out. Stay safe

  • @gordonbruce2416
    @gordonbruce2416 Před 4 lety

    Jon, I wonder if you need a trigger for short finals a bit like the airline’s use the 1000ft ‘Stable Approach’ call. Like on a precision approach you have a decision height/altitude, you could use a fixed altimeter indication say 200ft, 300ft or 400ft to call out your RBG. Alternatively wings leave on the centreline I.e. finals turn completed as the trigger. You probably learned more on this trip than half a dozen milk runs.

Turning off the straight line is not vacating the runway. But I accept you may have been a little shaken up by the experience.
