The Evolution was originally intended only for Japanese markets, but demand on the "grey import" market led the Evolution series to be offered through Ralliart dealer networks in the United Kingdom and in various European markets from around 1998. Mitsubishi decided to export the eighth generation Evolution to the United States in 2003 after witnessing the success Subaru had in that market with their long-time direct rival, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI. From rally-inspired roots to appearing in the biggest movies and video games, this car still manages to win the hearts of car enthusiasts. Find out why in today's episode, So You Want An EVO 8.

Literally almost snapped my neck when I seen one of these the other day. Told the driver “if you ever want to get rid of that, hml I’ll pay a pretty penny for it”. He smiled, waved, and took off.
Some dude came up to me and offered me cash on the spot for mine. Never enjoyed saying “no” so much 😂
@@paulantosy-ott3191 ye it’s wild. These things are gems, especially for one that’s mint/well kept. It’s hard to find “jdm legends” here in south FL that are owned by a real enthusiast. Most tuner cars here were owned by teenagers who destroyed them. So it’s common to get inquiries like that over here 😂
Thanks to people like you they are overpriced and riced
@@Carlos.Rivera it’s not overpriced, it was like $25K when it first came now it’s $35K for clean title and perfect condition
@@ramiahwhitney1946 it's overpriced. 100%. I want one but they aren't worth anywhere near that.
Another thing to consider, few mechanics know about the Evo VIII, including the dealer. After snapping a ball joint at 80 on the highway, my Evo was sent to a Mitsubishi dealership for repair. They didn’t complete the job properly and my insurance wanted to total the car. I refused, bought it back and took it to a specialty shop well known in the Evo game, and they figured out the problem in less than 5 minutes. I’ll never sell it.
As a dude who's more of a STi guy, I've got mad respect for different Evo builds. The Evo 6 is my favourite model.
"So you want an Evo 8" good luck finding a nice one thats not molested and destroyed.. I'm still looking😭
Lan 6 look good too 👀👀👀
Mitsubishi is a joke nowadays, they turned the eclipse into a wagon, they literally dont know how to listen to their fan base, its all a mess
@@aestheticswim3397 donut media made a video on why that is
@@aestheticswim3397 Mitsubishi is bigger than just cars. They’re a company that makes almost everything and cars only make a small percentage of their bottom line. That’s why they don’t make good cars anymore and that’s sad.
@@Nuggetfinatic2166 yeah their cars are absolute cheap shit boxes now😥

As much as I love my 06 STI, still definitely see owning an EVO in my future. Always loved these cars and the STI/EVO rivalry!
There is no rivalry the evo was always better. *crys in electric hybrid*
Ya same actually, i love both cars
Finally someone made a factual, beautifully cinematic Evo video! Thank you Alex for doing your research well and not just saying Evos are unreliable like almost every other CZcams channel that has never owned one or been in the community. An Evo is as reliable as its owner💯. I've had 16 different sports cars from all across the spectrum and my Evo 8 stands above all the rest for true driving feel and emotion inspiring power (2.0 Longrod 9000RPM 600WHP road race build). Other cars come and go but the Evo along with my S2000 have a permanent spot in my garage.
I agree with you. The first time I sat in the driver's seat and put my hands around the wheel it felt different to me... special. Hard to explain but if you know you know
I feel like Fitment Industries was reading my mind... Or looking at my search history
HMMMMMMMM 😂
wow as an evo owner with actual evo knowledge this video is accurate
Will u recommend to some one own an evo in a really hot summer day such as middle east ??? Is it good to have this car as daily
@@rehanali-hy9tk hmm can’t remember how cold my ac was when it actually worked. I usually have my windows down to cool down it doesn’t get as hot as small cars do from what I noticed. Just removed my ac since it didn’t work and I hardly use it anyways.

The amount of truth in this vid is unreal!!! So happy this vid came out, described every bit of my purchase on my evo 8.
❤️
Thanks for the feature lads 😜🤙
Devin Niemela is buying and reviving most of these! Lol
The gray one he restored looks phenomenal
It's like driving a fast gocart... Its capable of making you grin ear to ear just about all the time.
Love this one, I have owned my 8 for 13 years, and all the points shared were valid. It’s a great car, but it does have to be maintained well and taken care of otherwise bad things happen.
I'm not an Evo guy. At all.
But always. Mad respect. These will be $100k+ in 30 years.
I went with the Evo X series but I still love the Evo 8/9's too. Amazing platform.
Out of all the EVO's the 8 and 7 are my favorite ones.
As a current evo 8 owner , I LOVE MY EVO
Any serious issue ?
I found an 05 white evo for 24k .. but it’s out of state. Flying there and finding issues the dealer won’t tell me over the phone is the issue.
Evo IX FQ340 owner here! Had it for 8 years, almost bone stock too. Absolutely love it
I love my 8. Body work getting done right now on it and full build. I agree, its very difficult to make the car look bad. Most wheels will look good on it.
Yes I want one!! My uncle used to owned not one, but both Mitsubishi and Subaru. An Evo 8 and Subaru Impreza WRX STi Hawkeye.. Both properly tuned around 400+hp. He's a cool car guy not gonna lie. I used to drove and on throttle both his Evo 8 and the Hawkeye and the driving experience is just... Priceless ❤️
Lucky bastard!!🔥🔥
I'm really happy you said they can be really reliable with little modifications because people don't know that. I kept mine at 400hp for four years and it was a great daily! Take care of an evo and it'll take care of you!
I always felt people would maxed them out and tuners fault most of the time that cause them to have a bad rep. I have a few bolt on and it’s about to hit 200k soon the cars been reliable only thing I changed was the clutch that went out on me at 140k.
Yessir!
Bought my jdm evo 8 last October and still haven't driven it yet XD, waiting for winter to be over here in Canada Land
After 5 years I'm the garage, I just started to put my engine together. This thing is expensive to mess with.
Its a 400hp awd rally car why not drive it in the winter
The fear of rusting it I believe, especially with all the mountains of salt they put on the roads in Canada
@@keemistory it’s horrendous to say the least, the salt, brine, sand, etc they dump literally metic tones every winter. it’s even causing negative environmental issues now, winter sucks and so does rust. If I could move to Texas I would LOL!
"And a setup that looks like it would eat a child." Lmao that got me.
Ugghhh! This makes me miss my 2006 Evo MR. For the longest time I thought other drivers on the road kept speeding up alongside me to “run”. Turned out that the majority were just trying to take a picture on their phones. Lol. Ahh, the good old days!
I bought an 8 brand new in '04. I put 178k miles on it. Modified it a bit but in a balanced way. That car never failed me. It's one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Saved my ass several times as well. I loved ever minute of owning it. If you can get one, get one. Period.
What happened to it?! -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries I had to sell if for a more practical car for work. Heart breaking
😢😢😢 -Edgar
I have an Apex Silver Evo 8 I bought new in 04. Only a couple mods...wheels, WORKS tune and exhaust. A ton of highway miles on it and even tho I can afford to buy a new car, I chose to sink $8k into rebuilding the 4G63 and assorted new parts. CA car kept garaged, no rust and looks new, but I wouldn't sell it, even tho I'm accosted everyday with rubber neckers who want to buy it, whatever the cost. It's just a thrill to drive. I dressed up the interior with two tone leather, carbon fiber and a sound system. I don't see myself selling it until I'm way older. I've just moved to Arizona and plan to check out some killer roads for it. Great vid!
So glad I have my Evo 8, such an amazing car, I switch between that and my Supra every so often as my daily drivers, 230k miles on the stock 4g63 💪🏽 fbo and cammed
Yes I DO
It was about the time🤣🤣, thanks for this one 😍
Hey Alex we met last year at the Cooper Tire event. Sucks no trip this year! Keep up the great content.
Love my Evo ix wish I had got it sooner, the build process is fun just about to finish up the wrap on it :)
This series keeps getting hotter and hotter 🔥🔥
Picked up my evo 8 not to long ago has 44k of miles. Love the car
Y’all don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this video.
Was my first EVO, I never should have sold it. I love my X but the VIII was truly THE car. ♥️
As the original owner of a 05 Evo 8 MR with 22k miles, and as of last year a JDM fanboy who imported a 95 Evo 3 GSR... I will tell you something. They are addictive. And with all the racing heritage of a porsche without the porsche tax.
Just built a 700hp Evo and its a car that i'll never sell. In my opinion its everything a car should be. Raw, entertaining and FAST
Finally got mine back from the paint shop, nice to drive by a bunch of Subarus looking like a badass old relic haha
An Evo would be easy to own if they weren't being sold everywhere for over 25K a pop.
Checkout some listings in WA if your actually interested, I see them going for around 15K all the time near me
People need to stop overpaying for cars just because they pulled free money out of their super 🤦♂️
@@kendrickevans8042 What does WA stand for? Not sure which state abbreviation that is.
@@metalgearray6832 Exactly bro. The prices are only that steep because of how popular they are. A 2003-2008 model should NOT be worth over 20K. 10K is debatable. 5K at best.

Just like that, my evo 8's value just went up. Now to wait for FI to do a "So you want a 2IS"
They make so many mods for the interior now, you can make them really nice inside.
Damn you guys, I couldn’t justify buying a skyline yet right when I get my sights set on an Evo 8/9 you go and hype em up even more!! Lol Sick video, my mind was already made up 🔥👍
Been on the fence about getting one..this was the sign I needed
I bought my evo 9 last year with 14k og miles, bone stock, and the guy i bought it from gave me window sticker and everything. I paid a big price but it was worth it, full bone stock and it has been reliable to me. Currently has 21k miles, but now I started using it as a pleasure car. The owner had it garaged most of its time. I bought a daily and now i use it on weekends😀
Evo's, VR4 3000GT's, MK4 Supra's, and FD3S's catch my eye all the time.
Official trim levels were RS, MR and just "Evo 8" which was unofficially the GSR.
There was no "SL" but there was a "Sun, Sound, & Leather" package or SSL for the Evo 8/GSR. It included a sunroof, 7 speaker Infinity sound system with trunk mounted subwoofer and... leather. The SE came along for 06.
Thanks to BPro JDM Imports, I was lucky to get an Evo 8. So much fun to drive.
Here before 1k views.. of course for my dream car. Good job FI !
"There will always be somebody while you're driving, that's going to break their neck, when they see an Evo 8 rolling down the road."
Truer words have never been said.
Sums up my experience every time I drive mine 😅
im an STI fanboy but I will always respect the EVO....miss you bro
I love the evo. It was nice, I never owned one but I had a friend who did
Getting a evo 8 is the best choice I've made. Love this car so much. Always a smile on my face
Congratulations, I hope you bought it in stock form.
It wasnt completely stock when I bought it. But the mods done to it was tasteful and nothing to major. Been running strong for several years.
This hits home, owned an Evo 8 for 12 years now, and YES to everything mentioned. Especially rust in the NE.
Any issues to look for ? I’m interested in one that’s out of state.
@@reza_dc2 make sure to check for gear grinding, especially if it is the 6 speed. Look at exhaust manifold for any cracks, check coil on packs have no cracks. Check for rust in rear quarter panels, specifically passenger side. Listen for lifter “click” to make sure they have done the maintenance. If you can find one with as few mods as possible all the better. If you have questions, send a msg through here. I used to autocross and daily mine before rebuilding it and selling it.

I appreciate the heads up. I ran a carfax on the car , it had 4 previous owners true owners , then a 5th owner that owned it for 18 days , then a 6th owner that is selling it now. It's at a dealers. I was going to fly up there but now , after finding out it had four previous owners , it's making me think twice.. If I fly up there and leave a deposit , and the car turns out to have some issues.. It's going to be a 1500 dollar loss just for traveling expenses.. It's an 05 , white , with 160k on the motor. Catback exhaust and intake.. It's probably been driven hard as hell. It's from Portland and washington area.
@@reza_dc2 thats a lot of hands, that said they are strong motors. How much are they asking for? Sounds like the last 2 owners were dealers. But yeah, $1,500 just to go see it sounds pricey…have any friends around that area? Send someone closer

I tried bro , I don’t know anyone around there. Take a look at it on auto trader. It’s a 2005 white , with a 165k on the motor. It’s in Portland . I was going to sell my 1 owner 06 white tsx ( manual trans ) for it .. but I’ll probably just sit on it until I find something in California.
