  • By using a series of homemade capacitors, consisting of used plastic juice bottles, we make a large high voltage tower. In this video a 10 stage positive tower and a 10 stage negative tower are constructed this effectively doubling the voltage between the towers. These capacitor towers are constructed on the principle of the Marx generator. In a Marx circuit, a series of capacitors are charged up in parallel and then discharged in series through a series of spark gaps, generating very large voltages. These high voltages are demonstrated in this video.

Great job. 👍 Love seeing the least expense in temporary experimental projects like these. Can always upgrade when and where needed later if necessary. Keep sparking those idea brain cells 💡

Could you show your resistors being assembled? What's under the shrink wrap?

Under each shrink wrap are chains of five 2 ohm, 330 kOhm resistors soldered end to end.

This is a really great project. It doesn't appear too excessively expensive to construct either. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the inscrutable.

Yep it was a fun project because it used readily available cheap material. Even the resistors were cheap.

beautiful project. I would love to see it upgraded with copper tape(coated in isolation paint) and copper wire, and parallel glass bottles for higher capacity. this will be more lethal but also louder and more fun.

Thank you! It was a fun project

Yes exactly thought about using copper tape as well! Most of the copper tape I came across was too thin and not very durable. Also the outer cap foil of each capacitor acts as a discharge electrode and I was afraid the ozone generation around the spark would degrade the copper.

I’ve been shocked by it before. I got a full wack when I put my hand in it by mistake. Jerry (Arc Angel Tesla Coil) was watching when it happened. It sent a jolt up my arm into my shoulder. Hurt for about an hour🥲
