Basic Training - Day One

- Welcome to Day One of Basic Training. Get ready for yelling-lots of it. Drill sergeants do whatever it takes to transform new recruits from civilians to Soldiers. It's not an easy process, but it will all be worth it when you can call yourself an American Soldier. To learn more about Basic Training, visit bit.ly/uiiYSW.
For anyone who is about to leave for basic, or is planning on enlisting: BASIC TRAINING IS ALL A MIND GAME. They may yell, scream in your face, smoke you, etc. But that's what it is all about. The Army has changed with the times, it is NOT that physically demanding as it used to be. Granted if youre not insanely out of shape. YOU WILL BE FINE. Red phase is the worst, but gets a whole better once you acclimate and start hitting the ranges. If you are the kind of person that just cant handle someone telling you what to do and when to do it.. It's probably not for you. It will help you better yourself as a person and learn how to react swiftly on your feet. All in all, don't be a whiny recruit or draw unwanted attention to yourself and you'll be just fine. Out.
Joining the Army was the best thing I ever did in life. I am out of it now, but I encourage young people to join and serve with honor. Once you're in uniform, you can make a real difference in the lives of others. When you put the uniform away for the last time, you will always miss it and the brothers and sisters who are your family...The Army family.
Our mission makes us different. Unlike the other Armed Forces branches, we have a dual mission, meaning we answer to both state and federal governments. So Guard Soldiers can be deployed by either the governor of their resident state or the president of the United States, depending on where they are needed most.
I went through USAF so I took the "easy" route. But my recruiter always told me that if I switch branches (which I am still considering doing) , to remember that the trick is to listen to the words. Not the volume or "anger" of the instructiors/Drill Sergeants, and you could do no wrong. Best advice for boot camp i ever got. When I deployed, all of my great friends I made were Army. They warned me of calling a SGM sir/ma'am, but I broke that rule. Ended up pushing and then stood out for an HR addressing every Petty Officer, Commander, Lieutenant Colonel, etc that walked by.
Went through basic training - 13B AIT combined at Ft. Sill in 1990. You never forget those experiences no matter how old you get.
They will still yell at you and make sure you know everything you are suppose to know to be a soldier.
Going to basic training tomorrow for 19D can't wait for it. I'm in the guard
There are many workout programs out there that will help you improve you just have to choose the one best for you.
As a civilian now, this brought back a lot of memories! I remember Day One from 2007 and that's nine whole weeks I'll never forget. I can honestly say I didn't enjoy BCT going through it but at the end, I actually came to love every part of it and the bond that was formed through not only the soldiers I graduated with, but every single soldier that has, is, and will serve in the Armed Forces. You can't ever break that bond or the attitude that comes through pure dedication and motivation. If you're thinking about joining the forces, don't hesitate with it. Do it. I graduated with some of the most amazing people; some you wouldn't think would make it through. Yet, there was almost a 95% completion rate. Stick with it. It'll be hard but you'll thank yourself for it. Trust me.
Fort Leonard wood in 18 days! I can't wait. Joining the Kentucky National Guard has been the best decision I've made in my life. I'll be doing 16 OSUT. 10 weeks basic, 6 weeks combat engineer OSUT. Hooah!
LETS GO RI RI. DADDYS BACK!!! Oh man, my first introduction to the army. DS Attardi screaming, 1sgt speech, DS May speech...Over 1 year ago, ill never forget.
Hello! You should defiantly go to the national guard website and try to find another recruiter in your area. It may be a drive, but it will be worth to join.
Fort Leonardwood, MO. Had a lot of fun there. Trying to go Drill and go back. We'll see.
that was Fort Leonard Wood I recognize it. and I saw the sign that said B 795 MP.
+Sammy I was thinking it was B795. This was before the new barracks. They're much nicer!
Sammy I recognized it when they said they came from the 43rd. Ugh reception sucked.
Sammy that's where I'm going come September 18
you can join at 17 with parental consent. whether or not they'll take you is a different story, a few people in my unit already got the pink slip and there's more to come. its not easy getting into any branch right now
I am about about to join the Army National Guard , I talk to my recruiter Tuesday and if pass everything that is needed . then I will be Army Strong.
Yes, the Army is the only branch that allows you to enlist at 17 and has the split-op. I'm 17 and a junior and I ship to Basic Training on June 18. I'm assuming you're going to be a senior in September so you don't need to worry about the split-op. The cool thing about Guard is that you start getting paid before you go to Basic. Message me if you want more info.
You will have to talk to a recruiter, because normally in order to become a doctor you will have to already have your college degree to become one in the National Guard.
I was there!!! This is footage of my day 1! 2nd Platoon Bravo Company 795 Military Police Battalion (One Station Unit Training cycle 17-11). HOOAH. PVT LOPEZ
yes, im 17, and joined back in february, the only problem is that since you wont turn 17 to later this year you would have to wait i'd assume til your senior year, but as long as i think you go to basic training in 7 months after joining you can join while in high school. For specific details get with your local national guard recruiter and see what steps you can start to take, i know you can atleast go down to meps and get medically qualified for military service.
thank you for respecting all of us.
Hi! The best way to get better at things is practice, as the saying goes " Practice makes Perfect!" For your push-ups, just simply practice different types of push-ups. This means practice diamond, wide arm, and normal push ups a couple times a day. Once you have completed 2 sets of 15 each day, bump it up to 20, then 30, and so on until you reach your goal. For your sit ups you should practice different exercises that will strengthen your ab muscles, such as flutter kicks and 6 inches.
Yes, everyone goes through Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training, or for the combat MOS' such as Infantry One Station Unit Training. it does not matter if you are Reserve Army, National Guard, or Active Duty, you will go through the same Basic Training and Advanced Training as all soldiers. the difference is once you become Permanent Party at your first units.
O.K I'll do that. Thanks for your help.
The National Guard serves both state and federal governments. The difference between the Guard and other branches is that while Guard units are combat-trained and can be deployed overseas, they are just as likely to serve in their home communities-training just one weekend per month, and one two-week period each year. We do attend the same Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training.
Lol the way the girl drill sergeant yells is so hilarious
I am joining the USMC do to family tradition, but I have the upmost respect for every military branch personnel no matter who you are because we have our own personal preference of what something means to us. We all should be proud for every soldier in the United States.
Wow my company and all my Drill Sergeants. Some fond memories there :)
WOOHOO BRAVO 795!!!! I definitely remember my shark attack day at that exact company.
+rachel wurtz I was Delta 795
+rachel wurtz haha I just graduated from B795 in October few months ago, when i saw the sign and the Bulldogs art on the wall it took me back to that exact moment lol
yea. you can. I had a friend do that, left the summer of his junior year and entered his senior year as a basic qualified soldier. he went to AIT after graduating.
I'm just gonna go OSUT 11B and SMP while at Norwich University (america's oldest military college, birthplace of ROTC) all next summer and than come out an Active Duty Officer (gonna really push for an Aviation Contract).
And actually, since you'll be in high school still and 17, you'll be an RSP. so you'll get paid too.
It won't prevent you from joining. You'll find out at MEPS before you are sworn in.
Pretty much if it hurts you, but you can push through it then you will make it.
It is a mind game. If you can keep a clear mind and follow instructions and do what the DS's (TI's for me since i am Air Force) say with a sense of urgency then you will have an easy Basic Training if not then be ready for a lot of yelling. You will feeling like why am I here but remember others have made it thru and it used to be a lot worse and your brothers and sisters in arms are right beside you physically and spiritually saying "come on soldier YOU CAN MAKE IT."
i remember my day one at basic training
Does the soldier gets a hand to hand combat training?
it's bravo 795 for mp BCT. Went to Delta 795 for ait.. mps lead the way hooah!
thank you for letting me know
My ROTC Sgt is a former Drill Sgt. Always an interesting time when we have em haha
I leave for basic in less than two months im in the national guard just turned 18 been in since nov 2012 and I cant wait HOORAH
No disrespect but the female drill sergeant sounds like an annoying girlfriend
Shipping out next month on the 27th to Ft. Benning. My MOS is 11B, representing the Hawaii Army National Guard, more especially Kauai. Hooah! 299th Cav Troop C.
The female DS was all out of breath😂😂 like woman if you don't get yo ass out of my face.
Hi Sam unfortunately I do not. The best thing that you could do would be to talk to your local recruiter.
google the "push-up push program".. it's on military.com. I am an officer in the Pennsylvania guard and this workout has me maxing the push-ups every time
Hello! Sorry for the late response, but this is just a video provided to us from one of the basic training bases. There are very similar in that the drill sergeants act the same through out all bases.
this is ft leonard wood home of the mps and this is Bravo 795 the best training company in the world .
Most go straight to AIT. Unless you're still in high school and do split option.
Bravo Company 795th MP BN, 14th MP BDE at Fort Lost in the Woods, Misery is the above shown...If you have or are planning to cycle through there, embrace it! You're gonna miss those days just like the rest of us that spent 5 months of OSUT there. Comanches! (Charlie 795 20-10)
I think those instructors are going easy on them.
I 100% wish I could join.
A military career is the only thing in my life where I felt 210% determined to do.
DS May was one of my Drill Sergeants for basic and AIT. Slick miss basic training
Sand Hill at Ft. Benning is much worse. It's the Home of the Infantry and all DSs have served at least two deployments as Infantry Just about all of them are crazy and have PTSD from combat. Damn those were some fun times.
Went to Benning back when they could intentionally roll you through fire ant mounds on "Sand Hill" and still put their hands on you... that's when training was truely fun!!!
This looks like Jackson. I went to Fort Benning (Home of the infantry!), and the drill sergeants there were not limited to what they could say to us because there were no females at Benning. Lots of yelling, cussing and screaming way past day 1. All to make us better soldiers and above all else infantryman! Grad: Sept 2nd, 2011 C Co. 1-19! Hooah!
Can't wait to join the Army, only a year or two then I can finally. :)
joining the guard summer 2k18
Hi you have to do 42 push ups in 2 minutes.
This was the class after mine BRAVO 795 hooah!
Hey looks like Fort Leonard Wood home of the MP's. I just graduated from there in February!
This brings back memories..
i remember this day like it was yesterday...not 7 months ago
Drill Sgt May was my DS, good times. DS Attardi is such a bad ass. DS Coffee, god i dont miss him lol.
@TennesseeStang11 I also did basic at Ft. Knox. Man those ruck marches were fun. I was one of the last class' at Knox. Delta 1/46 hooah!
No, you having flat feet should not hurt you in joining the military. You should be able to get a waiver and special shoes.
Good luck!
Hello! Sorry for the late reply, but this is one of 4 basic training bases in the United States.
Well when school starts again this is what I got to look forward to
LOL DIs yelled a lot louder back in 1982, but this is a good vid showing Day 1.
Poor old ACU's. I like the new OCP's a lot more.
Not 100% sure with Nation Guard, but at the age of 17 I joined the Army Reserves. I went through MEPs last July and have been a future soldier since. I go to drill with my unit and I have all my ACUs already from them. So I know for the Army you can, but I'm 99% sure you could do it with the National Guard too.
We had to march with the bags in the USAF. I hated that! My shoulders were tight for a week.
Goodluck. Fort Benning is known to be one of the toughest
@IWorshipMCR This wasn't Jackson, I went there and we didn't have any brick buildings in our MOUT city. This has to be Ft. Leonard Wood. Also, the patch the Drill Sergeants were wearing isn't a patch I ever saw on Jackson. I think I saw green and yellow trim of a chemical battalion on one of the buildings, too.
i'm enlisting in the california army natguard a week after i turn 17, which is like 4 days from now. i hope i make it. i'm 5'4, and 111 lbs. im trying to exercise everyday. hopefully im physically strong for basic. if you saw me right now, you'd say that i'm skinny and pretty weak. i decided national guard cuz i'd like to go to college right after highschool and be in the military at the same time. and i'd like to provide support and relief within america too. when is the next basic after May1?
nice. cant wait. its between the guard and USMC! oorah
man Drill Sargents need to get together and come up with some new phrases and retire some old ones
im in the army and 42 push ups and 50 sits up and a 2 mile run in 15mns:36seconds OR LOWER for ages 17-21 don't aim for the lowest score or the drill sergeants will shit on you to NO END ..also if you suck at running tuff luck just gotta work on it but no matter how bad you are at the worst thing you can do in basic or the real army is fall out of AGR's (Ability Group Runs) so no matter how much you suck at running NEVER! and i mean NEVER! fall out of an agr (personal experience)
Hi Kolbeinn, you have to become a US Citizen or permanent legal resident before you can join the National Guard.
Lol that lady di isnt scaring anyone lol
We actually got off some kind of truck (way back in '99 - we called it a "cattle cart"), and I had my bag right over my face...and ran smack into my drill sergeant. Her screams echo in my mind 14 years later.
Yes
I try not to giggle at this video, since I did Basic well over a decade ago, this seems soft to me.
All I can say is day one SUCKS and so do the other days lol..but its soo much fun!
you can go to your local Army Recruiting station and they can answer any questions and provide any information you may want. GO ARMY!
Get a parential waiver and possibly at 17 yes.
@linelead26 Exactly....when I was at Fort Bennng it was polish your black boots during down time, and my arm was covered in fire ants when were out in the middle of nowhere doing our drills. Remember a DS took off his brown hat when one of the privates was challenging him....let me say that private didn't last long at all. Miss good ol "Sand Hill"
Thats DS attardi talking to the pvts at the begining and DS may is a great ds
This makes me feel a little curious about trying the basic training, but I don't plan on enlisting.
Hello! It is possible to switch from National Guard to Active, and the first step is getting released from your guard unit to go active. Your rediness NCO would know exactly what to do.
National Guard easier said then done lol
One of the drill sergeants referred to 43rd ag. That's fort Leonard wood.
Hi Sam, there are some medical conditions that prevent you from joining the National Guard. Unfortunately, an organ transplant is one of them.
My shark attack at benning was sooo bad. the duffel kept slipping and i couldnt balance my laundry bag filled with shit on top of that duffel filled with shit. sooo heavy =( 5 drill sergeants came behind me and screamed at me till i turned semi-deaf. then i for some reason thought it was funny and then i got the whole platoon in front leaning rest. good times.
Ya, i joined in high school
I am Active Duty and have made great friends in both BCT and AIT who were National Guard. Nasty Girls, HOOAH! lol
lol my shark attack wasn't too bad we just did alot of squatting, confusion, and holding our bags out infront of us. after our first 3 weeks the drill sergeants always joked with us an were awesome unless we were really fucking up. haha still got to go back and finish the last 2 weeks hooah. charlie rock 2-13
@IWorshipMCR That was my training unit as well Hooah!
keep your head down and execute, no matter what it is. Its hard at first but it gets easier as time goes on. If you want to pass, you will pass...the course is designed that way. Remember pain is a patience problem...your brain is the weakest muscle and will quit 90% of the time. YOU CAN MAKE IT THROUGH just keep pushing. the DS will not kill you and they will appreciate that you gave your all, even if they don't say it.
That my friend was very respectful lol you will understand when you join we all rag each other but its like brotherly love we are all alike in different ways lol i am also a Marine but have very much respect for other branches Goodluck with your Career ! OORAH
The most yelling that I heard during basic was during our shark attack, after that we were not yelled at unless we put someones life at risk on a range which never happened...
hell yea! B795.. it takes me back!
@IWorshipMCR T hats def not fort Jackson, that's Fort Leonardwood. He was my drill sgt when I joined.
Damn I didn't even know what type of campaign hats female drill Sgt's wear until now I only saw male Drill Sgt's Ft Benning
