I lost my husband last year and honestly Delony’s advice is 100% spot on. There’s is literally nothing anyone can say or do to make the hurt stop. In fact, trying to say something just isn’t helpful. Just BE there. Cook dinner, do some housework, pickup groceries. Be practically helpful but mostly, just be there. I know it’s hard, as we want to help and comfort, but you just can’t, other than being present.
I'm so sorry for your loss. And yes, you are completely right. When my husband lost his mother all the condolence cards and well wishes were trite and almost more painful at times. Just show up. That's all a grieving person needs.
Actions mean more than words during tragedy.

Life is not guaranteed for a certain time, we never know what tomorrow brings. My father passed away at 40 and mother passed right after my high school years (also in her 40's )...so you dont away have the time you think you might to get your business in order. I hope people also find blessing in the simple things in life.

Why does Dr. D have to make everything so dramatic. A caller could literally say “I paid off my car cause I was just tired of not having much extra money” and he’ll come back with “whoa, man you are just so incredibly strong. What a hero, I’m just I’m amazed at you man, this is just the beginning brother you need to sit and dream man. You’re such a blessing.”
He always sounds contrived.

This advice for how to treat the grieving friend is why animals are so therapeutic...they always shut up and listen for however long you need.
And the advice for wedding planning is spot on; my and my hubby's wedding was literally ruined by parents and siblings "because their feelings will be hurt if you don’t include them" which led to the people included making what they wanted for our wedding "because I regretted not doing X at my own and I know you will too". Guess what? I regret including them.

1000 emergency fund is not enough! I’m still stuck on it. Car broke down at it cost me 3000. I have pipe issues in the house and that’s another 1000. Tires are coming up soon and that will be another 500.
Agreed....an emergency fund in today's climate is at least 3k. Probably better to have 5k.

Why does Dr. John feel the need to interject just so he can comment on every caller? Most of the time it's just useless, unnecessary drivel. I liked him much more when he first came on and didn't feel the need to say something (anything) to each and every caller.
