The Box Music Television you control. Music channel from the uk in the 90s. The Box is availible to watch on Sky Channel 359 & Virgin Media Channel 335 website www.thebox.co.uk
In my teens, I lived & died by this channel. Even some of our teachers let us watch it in school. I loved it way more than MTV, because it was nothing but pure music and no shows.
When I was a kid. My brother and I were addicted to watching music videos on the box. Then one day we got the bright idea to try and call in a request. We were is shocked when it played our video almost immediately! So we did it again, and again. It was so cool to see the video we requested actually play! Then.. a few weeks later my parents were enraged to see at least 20 box music requests show up on the phone bill! I seriously thought I was going to die that day.
Omg🤣🤣🤣 I didnt realize people paid for those videos. I just watched whatever came on and hoped it was a song I liked!!!! Damn that would have been me had I paid attention.
It was a shame that MTV bought The Box. They killed it eventually. It was fun to look at and The Box made only one mistake, they didn't put in an artist seperation so the same artis could be more than one time on air in the same hour.
man i remember this from the 90s my mum used to get me to sit there and .look for a song code on here so she could call them while she was cooking my dinner the old days.
I remember The Box, when I was 11 or 12 one summer I ran up the phone bill requesting music videos when I had the house to myself, my parents were mad pissed when they got the bill lolololololol
I loooooved watching this for hours when I had no cable. I remember waitning to see the little phone icon to know that someone was playing a video. Believe it or not, I still remember the number for "thuggish ruggish bone" was 757 lmao!
Used to watch this growing up in Chicago. Still remember the day I saw the commercial for the Mortal Kombat movie while watching The Box. 7/8 year old me was hyped as hell!
Think I watched The Box in the UK for some time every single day 1996-2000. I like how the original text and graphics were taken from the US version. Never knew different regions had their own version when it was new.
Same, same. The Box was much cooler than MTv and played ruder stuff, and for a while the uncensored versions too (until it became a bit more professional and polished)
Yes!!!! The Box was super awesome. I miss those times soooo much. I first heard and saw the music videos “Black Hole Sun” “Stupify” “I disappear” “Judith” and “Oops I did it again” on this network. Epic times. :’(((
There was a pager service back in the day that had a toll-free 800 number. If you dialed a certain sequence at the message, you could get a dial-tone that let you call anywhere for free, even 900 numbers. We used to order so many videos. Poor Skypage... Sorry about the phone bill!
I miss those days watching the BOX growing up in the 90's. Even tho you had to pay to order a video which they use to charge it on you phone bill it was worth it cause they played good videos. The BOX was the best music network in the 90's better than MTV. The BOX use to play all different videos of different genre's including underground music like house and club that MTV never use to touch. Including Urban which they opened more doors for urban music videos when MTV use to discriminate.
Back in the day before the Internet have music store/service, The Box TV was where the independent/underground artist made an attempt to promoted themselves and gained some recognition (aside from showing any banned mainstream MV that wasn't shown on MTV)
My time with the channel was from the summer of 90' all the way to the fall of 2000. I remember after the New Year's Eve ball dropped, I was turning on the channel and all of a sudden there was MTV 2. I was like "Oh great! I can't hear those bleeping noises between the commercials anymore!! This freaking sucks!!!
I knew I wasnt making this up!!! We didnt have cable or a computer at home so I had no way to look up music vids. I would stand in my parents room when they were out and hold an antennae and wait to watch music videos! And it was hella staticky still!🤣🤣🤣 awww the good old days! Never thought I'd own a phone let alone watch music videos on it!!!! DAMN DID MY ARM GET TIRED HOLDING THE ANTENNAE THROUGH ONE VIDEO! LMAO! 😆
OMG! I've mentioned this damn station to ppl and they look at me like I'm nuts. Rofl, I got into a lot of trouble when I was younger. Called a few times, lol so I could see my music videos :)
I was really young when this particular The Box format was on(early 90s) but I actually remember that format music list they had & their slogan "Music You Control" line(I had to be about 3-4yrs old). Then when I got up in age(around 8) we still had The Box(late 90s). By 2000, The Box turned into MTV2.
yeah i loved the box! at my house it was always kept on that channel. i first remember it as the Jukebox Network in 1990. Then 2-3 years later in Chicago it became The Box. I liked it when it was the Jukebox. Lots of early teen memories. Only time i could see vids of Cube, Redman, PE, NWA, and others in the daytime everyday! Much love to the Jukebox/Box, you guys gave me great times in my teens during the early 90's. Thanks for everything!
In NYC, it came on in the Summer of '90, even the channel existed a few years before it came into my area. In the borderline of Spring/Summer of 1992, the channel underwent the name change which became The Box and it ran until the first minute of 2001. Then MTV's sister channel, MTV2 came and took over.
Omg I loved the box! Growing up on L.I Ny I didn't get the channel but my dad who lived in queens had it so every weekend I'd spend there,I'd order and record all my fave videos. Good times. I just watched some of my VHS's wish I knew how to put them on CZcams.
MrNickelodeon90 Sorry been so busy with work. Ive only been able to get on youtube through my phone till now. My bro is going to help put them on youtube under my account because i alone just don't have time.
Oh man....my fave channel ever! Back iin the 90's, Mom never let me use her phone, s I had to use the phone box to phone The Box just to hear Wu Tang's Chessboxing, then I had to leg it home an set the VCR to record it!!! The channel had every video you could think of, Now The Box still exists but it's not a jukebox, that was the whole point of the channel!!!
THE BOX THAT ROCKS!!!! Remember that slogan really well. The Jukebox Network!!! The unrestricted music videos, the graphics of the menus/bumpers, the DTMF tones and the bunch of requests were the main things that made the channel very interesting and I miss it till this day on.
This is taking me back. I was a kid whose parents didn't get cable (cuz they weren't about to pay for TV), so I used to watch The Box a lot. Hey, it allowed me to keep up with all the big videos of the time. But, used to hate it when a really popular song would show up there, cuz that would be the only video playing all day long (everybody would only order that video). Other then that, though, loved The Box:)
Memories! I remember making a list of the numbers for my favourite videos and watching the playlist like a hawk. The graphics were way different, but basically the same idea.
Who remembers 2 live crew - You go girl, Let loose - Crazy, Technohead - I want to be a hippy, Coolio - Gangstas Paradise, Dont want know short short man (cant remember the artist) those runes used to get OVER PLAYED loved it tho
915 Red Nex "Where did you come from, where did you go, where did you come from Cotton Eye Joe." LOL oh man, so mny memories love the 90's. Especially early/mid 90's. Much love and rspect to the Box. I ran up my mom's phone bill with 3rd Bass and Public Enemy videos. lol
Yeah, before it became "The Box", I remember it in Baltimore as "The Jukebox Network". That was back in the 80's. It would be so great if someone had a clip from it's early days. I would love to see it again.
Isaiah Tolbert Definitely played a few megamixes for the shorter menus with the music video montages on the screen. That was from the winter through the summer of 1991 when it was the Jukebox Network. When it changed as the Box, from the spring or summer to the fall of 1992, the megamixes were played while the wallpaper changed different designs. Similar to the 1990 variant which only the Kraftwerk track "The Telephone Call" (instrumental)was played.
In 89', I was living in Flushing, Queens and the neighborhood was called Fresh Meadows. I was living in a complex under the same name of my area. The first time I ever seen the Jukebox Network was a year later, which was in the summer of 1990. Everyone else had the channel a year and a half to a year before it reached further in the Northeast.
Anyone from NYC remembers a guy that had a little segment to request videos.. He was Puerto Rican with a pony tail and like mad cute??? Around 2000?? I was like 8-9 and he was like 20..
The last I had the Box channel was when it came back on cable in the summer of 1999. I had Time Warner Cable when I living in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. So, I woke up after midnight and surf through the channels and all of a sudden, I caught a music video with a request menu down in the bottom. From that I noticed that this was the channel that I thought wasn't going to come back on cable. I kicked back for a couple of hours and watch the channel through a series of music videos, menus, dial tones and commercials. It ended on New Years Day of 2001 after the ball had dropped. From the day that I witnessed the end of that channel, I felt that it changed the vibe that I was used even though I didn't request a video. Still, it was innovative and refreshing for me in my time to behold something that was different than any other music video channel as far as pure music goes.
My favorite music channels and shows were this network, Video Music Box(channel 31), Yo! MTV Raps, Rap City from BET, Flashbacks and Ghettonomics on BCAT(cable access in Brooklyn) and My Generation from WPIX which lasted from I think 1990 to 1992 or 93.
Yes i remember very well when it was called the Jukebox. i was 13 years old. At that time i remember them playing Dee-lite Groove is in the heart, every hour. loved it.
BigBenStrikes Yeah! The first video that I saw on the Jukebox was "The Humpty Dance" from Digital Underground and the Delite video as well too. This was in the Summer of 1990 when my hometown of NYC caught on to the channel.
Only the most awesome people remember the box. From age 10 to 13 this is pretty much all I watched.

This was me from 1994-2000, a lil' girl growing up in South Central LA. If I wasn't in the mood for Video Soul or Rap City, I flipped on The Box.
When I was a kid. My brother and I were addicted to watching music videos on the box. Then one day we got the bright idea to try and call in a request. We were is shocked when it played our video almost immediately! So we did it again, and again. It was so cool to see the video we requested actually play! It was a shame that MTV bought The Box. They killed it eventually. It was fun to look at and The Box made only one mistake, they didn't put in an artist seperation so the same artis could be more than one time on air in the same hour.

Oh man is this why everyone on TV is in rooboot mode? Trying to bring back nostalgia with lame reboots

My sentiments exactly.
It was called The Juke Box first, then it changed to The Box once it became more popular.

I remember watching this channel, hounding for when they would play ruff ryders anthem.

I love that drum n bass bumper music during the music video options.
Not DnB, sounds more like a hardcore techno track.
@@tarynmcnamara6006 I don't remember music during the video select list, I remember it just being silence. This must be in the later years.
@@malcorub The menu background with the music is from 1992. The second one in the end is from 1998, I think.
OMG! I've mentioned this damn station to ppl and they look at me like I'm nuts. Rofl, I got into a lot of trouble when I was younger. Called a few times, lol so I could see my music videos :)
Me and my sister used to be glued to this channel *sigh* memories :-)

Then when I got up in age(around 8) we still had The Box(late 90s). By 2000, The Box turned into MTV2.
During the first time I watched the Jukebox Network, one of their slogans we're "The Box That Rocks". That was shortly before it's name change.
my music channel experience for The Jukebox Channel is from 8/90 through 12/00.
yeah i loved the box! at my house it was always kept on that channel. i first remember it as the Jukebox Network in 1990. Then 2-3 years later in Chicago it became The Box. From bout 96-01 this was great, the wonders of cable TV. Fast cable internet too, great times.
classic ..classic. In America they never played music in the background, just samples of some of the songs
Isaiah Tolbert Definitely played a few megamixes for the shorter menus with the music video montages on the screen. BigBenStrikes Yeah! The first video that I saw on the Jukebox was "The Humpty Dance" from Digital Underground and the Delite video as well too. This was in the Summer of 1990 when my hometown of NYC caught on to the channel.
