  • This video is a tribute to the basketball career of Kobe Bryant.
    Kobe was drafted in 1996 by the Charlotte Hornets and then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played 20 seasons. He was the youngest player to play in the NBA when he debuted (since eclipsed) and is still the youngest player ever to start a game. He won the slam dunk contest as a rookie, five NBA championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010), two Olympic gold medals and scored more points than any guard in NBA history (33,643).
    His 42 points in the first half -- 29 of which are shown in this video -- came against the Washington Wizards in March, 2003, in Michael Jordan's final game in LA. After 17 years, it is still one of my favorite performances in NBA history.
    ----
    Music : M83 - Outro
    Footage in this video is owned by the NBA and its partners. It is intended for critique and education.

    Man I needed Kobe to grow old like Jordan. I wasn't ready for this.

    Never been a Lakers fan, was never the biggest Kobe fan when he was playing either. It was only after he retired that I really started to love him because I realized he wasn’t a jerk, he was just one of the most competitive, driven people to ever exist. And when I heard that he had died, I cried. I had never known this man, he never knew me. I never even rooted for him, and yet, I cried. You could tell just by watching him, that he gave his all in everything. Business, basketball, family, it was all the same. I guess I cried because I realized we lost one of the all-timers. Not just basketball players, but men. He was a man who would not hesitate to sacrifice what was needed in order to achieve greatness. He didn’t just tell us, he SHOWED us that we didn’t have to live in fear. Guys, live your life with everything you got, so that you can look back and be satisfied. Like Kobe did. Rest in Paradise Kobe and Gigi, we will always remember what you did, but more importantly, we will always remember who you are.

    Despite being the player he was, the thing that really struck me was seeing that in his final interview he said that two non negotiables in his life were picking up his daughter from school every day, where he would compete with other moms to be first in line for pickup, and he would always shower his two youngest at night as well. Everything else he would fit in his day around those two things. He said about that “how are u going to inspire the world when u can’t inspire your own family”, which I found to be even greater than any basketball feat he achieved, which is no small task. He truly had the mamba mentality to be the best at not only basketball, but every facet of life. RIP kobe, he had so much more left to do and was gone way too soon 🙏🏽

    Anyone from this generation will say that Kobe was the reason they wanted to work on their footwork... at least I know I did. I put hours and hours in the gym just working on jabs, pivots, and triple threat attacks. Part of me just shattered when I heard the news, but the mamba mentality he gave us will never leave. RIP Kobe, Gigi and everyone on board.

  • @MrMW2nd
    @MrMW2nd Před 4 lety +1

    As a player, kobe was what we think of Klay thompson now. The threat to drop 60 in three quarters. He was more than that. He would dunk on your best player. He would make the behind the back pass for the easy layup. He would take the last shot with 2 guys in his face all for the sake of winning. But kobe was so much more than a basketball player. He had a beautiful mind that inspired and amazed. We liked him for who he was between the lines, but loved him for who he was off the hardwood

    The analytics won't look too fondly towards Kobe Bryant, as a whole, but his impact and legacy are undeniable to the sport of basketball, and that's what makes the Black Mamba so great.

      Except the analytics do look extremely fondly towards him. Dude had the best ORAPM in the entire league from 2002-2011 and was tied for # 3 overall. It's weird how people keep saying this when it's simply not true.

    The precision of his movements, the effort, the laser focus. Because he wasn't always joking and laughing, "joy" isn't always a word used to describe how Kobe played the game. I wasn't a big fan as I got older but lookin back I can see just how much he enjoyed the game by how hard he played and how much he gave to it. I truly hope to take 1/100th of that fire into the rest of my life as I'm trying to become a better person and I'd be lying if I said his passing wasn't part of it. RIP to a true legend and icon.

    Before i played basketball, my friends would have me believing Kobe was like this fringe top 10 player at best, and not one of the greatest ever. I'm happy that now I've been watching and playing ball for the last 6 years and in my mind Kobe is closer to top 5.. and on top of that, to me, it makes sense to pick Kobe in a 1v1 matchup in the finals over just about anyone. Kobe can hold his own on an indiviual level, in terms of clutch and closing, with anyone ever.

Nine good people lost. That's life folks...I am so grateful for what I have, and who I have it with. 6:47 that's one of the many reasons i always loved to have Kobe in my favorite team. Anytime those guys had some troubles as a fan i knew that Kobe was to be like "don't worry man, i got you". And i think that was the most important thing of Kobe, he was never that guy to score because of selfish things, he was a guy to score when it was most needed, and to be feared, and so respected, when it was needed. Kobe was like that big bro that's always there when you need him, and now he's not there anymore.

Who knows what would have happened if the league didn't sabotage the Chris Paul trade. Kobe didn't chase rings, and never sold out for them. Took the hardest route and overcame his obstacles (Boston). Redeeming himself. After this, him and Jordan belong at the top of goat mountain because anyone other than Jordan head to head doesn't stand a chance.
