- From iRacing to real-world -- Dirty Mo Media is replaying the popular "Bringing Back Wilkesboro," as a bonus video of Roots & Revival.
It's not often that you can go back in the past and recreate something to spec. Dale Earnhardt Jr. led a group of volunteers to do just that - bring abandoned North Wilkesboro Speedway back to life in virtual form for the iRacing platform.

The Speedway: "Hold my beer..."
Proud of you Junior.
I absolutely love North Wilkesboro ♥️ 🏁🏆🏁🤗💞🤗🙏🙏🙏 Dale thank you for having the vision to save North Wilkesboro on iRacing that led to the resurrection of this awesome track. I'm so happy that it's back alive and running wide open!!🤗💞🤗🏁🏆🏁🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much for what you’ve done for Wilkesboro Dale. It means more than you can ever imagine to us.
Glad Dale is doing this 👏
I don't believe we will ever see anyone this passionate about anything in our lifetime again
That’s a bit of a stretch mate but I hear ya. Perhaps about racing. Sure.
@@lesblase3667 far from a stretch but it's what I believe
Dale Jr. is the man!!
Awesome Dale, totally loving this! I’ll renew my iRacing this winter just to support them and race this track!
Thank you Dale jr and everyone involved.
Thanks so much to Dale and many others. I went there as a kid with my dad. Went back with my dad for the super late model race. It sure was a blast.
this was one of my favorite tracks in the old games. Happy the history is preserved digitally!
Such a GREAT Story, I remember when it first got mentioned on the Podcast
No wonder I love dale Jr so much. He is truly a hero. My hero anyway.
As a local to the area I'm glad the tracks coming back.
I miss the good old days of racing at tracks like North Wilkesboro and The Rock. I wish NASCAR could somehow add both back to the schedule for one race a year or at least Rockingham, which is closer to being in race shape that Wilkesboro. 👍✌️
And just like that the cup series is returning to north wilkesborow
Hickory, N. Wilkesboro, Richmond, Rockingham…I miss short track season. This was the grind that created champions.
I just have to say, that walking into north wilkesboro is the equivalent of stepping into 1 of the old major league stadiums, you can literally feel the ghosts of the past
I met you that December day in 2019. I was one of the ones from Brushy Mountain Smokehouse that catered it
North Wilkesboro belongs in NASCAR. After watching the modified race there a few weeks ago, you can tell the place isn't far off from hosting some sort of NASCASR racing. I would not be surprised to see trucks on the schedule there for next fall. A throwback truck playoff race at Wilkesboro under the lights would be sweet! Throwback to the truck schemes of the mid 90's
One of the FUNNEST TRACKS out there. WE WILL GET THERE ! The SO. DAK KID !
I really appreciate all of your hard work and dedication Dale Jr and everyone involved who took on this tremendous task ! It sure paid off , Thank you so much 👏👏❤️❤️
I say anyone who has enjoyed North Wilkesboro over the years and this past week by all the Sun Drop products possible show them our support and just maybe one day we'll have the Sun Drop 300 in North Wilkesboro what a day it could be go Sun Drop
I bought a few cases since then… it ain’t Cheerwine but I do it for dale
What Jr is doing for this sport is so large it can't be quantified. We will likely never be able to measure his contribution. But he will likely go down as one of the Top 5 most important people to ever be involved with the sport.
I enjoy this series so much
Dale Jr.
Iracing enthusiast.
15:21 "This will never see another race in the real world" he's eating his words now!
Can't wait for the race
Happily, I might add.
um.... when will it have a real world race....? How is he "eating his words"...?
@@csnide6702 they’re racing modifieds and late models on it right now. They’re going to rip the pavement up and do dirt races on it in about a month and then repave the track
@@williamjohnson2011 very cool... ! 👍 I always wondered why there was no local racing there ..... THAT is how it needs to come back to glory - Grass roots !
Jr I believe there's always room for short tracks, back or otherwise ,I just love short track racing it's as exciting to me as restricted plate racing and the driver has more control in his hands rather than fate of others.
Can’t wait for the race
Love that they made this happen and that Jr. is now involved with iracing. Since on the oval side of things we have pretty much all the top series tracks, I hope there is a renewed push to get a lot of the famous short tracks added in. There are plenty still out there that really hold a significance in the beginnings of the sport and it's top drivers throughout history.
He's been involved in sim racing for over 20 years .... I raced against him once in 2005 in Papyrus NASCAR Racing 2003 at an invitational race for Blackhole Motorsports. Ryan Newman also took part and we raced at Talladega. Junior and Ryan started in the back and it didn't even take them 5 laps to pass the entire field and then by around lap 20 they put the entire field a lap down. I was happy with finishing 4th out of the field of 23. I also set my personal best lap time with Dale pushing me for a few laps. I remember him thanking me after the race when really I should have been thanking him for an experience I'll never forget
@@longjohn526 Oh yeah I knew he's been in sim racing. I meant more I'm happy that he has an official role, not just a fan and user of the service.
Wish you could bring back Lost tracks. Very good series
Very interesting 👌
It would be awesome to see cup racin at North Wilkesboro Speedway again and have the Gander Mountain Truck Series race there too.
Like the all star race in 2023!!!
Pretty cool labor of love! Not just for iracing fandom but for all nascar fans who have memories of it. Nice work. Makes me wonder if other old tracks, Hickory e.g., are still around.
Perhaps the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series could run at North Wilkesboro when the time comes. The Cup Series? Least likely.
Amazing!! I'm sure y'all never fathomed your dreams would become a real racing reality.
I can’t wait till it turns to dirt I’ll b there then hopefully racing on the legendary track
I'm from Ireland and I remember about ten years ago Top Gear UK filmed there and it looked a lot better then it looks at the start of this.
Be cool to see a 1970 Nascar season update to iRacing with say Historic Columbia speedway scanned in or Middle Georgia Speedway scanned for the update like the 1987 with North Wilkesboro. Would think it be fun to run the Aero War cars at the SuperSpeedways/Speedways & Short tracks
Wish they would put out a petty car from the 60’s or 70’s
I raced Papyrus Nascar waaaaay back in the day. When I heard about y'all doing iRacing, I wasn't paying very close attention. Might have to see what this is all about.
Love it!!! Nascar --- PAY ATTENTION!!! This will be great; now, do The Rock. 👍🏁
15:24 when I first heard him say that when the original video dropped I knew he was wrong.
Rockingham next!
Can you guys please scan Calder Park race oval down here in Melbourne, Australia? First oval track outside of the USA. If you guys haven’t already. I’m not iracing (yet) but will be soon
I’m looking for a decent pic to run iracing starting last night… ngl wish they had bowman gray
Come up and scan Riverhead raceway
Screw the la coliseum, do north wilksboro next year
My .02 Nascar leaving alot of short tracks was a huge mistake. Nothing like setting up high and seeing the whole race.
If I’m not mistaken. Texas is what took north Wilkesboro spot. At that time Texas was the second highest paid purse
Nascar was chasing the money. Now it’s played out
I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you would make a video, about living in your dad's shadow all the time? I don't mean this in a negative way or anything, your pops was my favorite driver in Nascar ever since I was able to watch it and understand it .... especially when I seen where he came from and how hard he had to work to get there....also how he wanted to race and I believe your grandfather wanted him to finish school and then he would help him chase his dreams. And when you came along you both were my favorites and when you stopped racing i stopped watching on a regular basis.. but watching growing up it seemed like you really wanted him to see you and watching the look on your face it seemed like you felt left out of alot and wanted to be closer to him.... if I'm wrong I apologize! But the video I was wanting to see and hear you talk about..... it seemed to me that everytime you won in the interview process all you were asked about was about your dad... 1 example was the race at Daytona you won after his passing was almost like they didn't want you to celebrate your win because all they wanted to talk about was him and his death and all you wanted to do is celebrate your win and your accomplishments, and I just felt like no matter what you did and achieved the interview was about him and it should have been about you and kinda pissed me off to be honest...... I know what I'm trying to say it's just difficult to type it out I guess lol but you get the idea lol..... I live in the town where you hunt in ohio and it would be a dream to meet you 1 day i would rather have sent you a PM of this but dont have a idea on how, but im sure people will have negative to say about this but I feel its true.... if you make a videoon this ill see it and think it wouldbe a greatone to see how you felt then aboutit all thanks!.... stay great JR! Awesome videos!
Dropping NW was just one of the horrendous mistakes NASCAR has made and why the sport has become what it is... which is not good.
It should have said Winston Cup on the walls.
I’ve been a NASCAR fan for 40+ years. Sorry, but I just can’t get into Sim racing. I envision “Jr’s Vintage Class” exhibition race aka Tony’s SRX series. Historic venues, historic cars, All Star NASCAR drivers only, limited seats. A great alternative to what NASCAR’s become today. 100% sell outs & lots of pay per view watchers. Tell me it’ll happen. Can’t wait!
Are they still gonna do the race with the tire shortage ???
Wait what
What
Yeah that came out about 2 weeks ago there's a couple of series they're having troubles getting tires haven't heard much about it since
@@lawrencebeeler6273 It did not affect the main CARS series. It did impact a couple of the smaller series, though.
The events next week are still happening. They only canceled last weeks.
Look at all the excitement and support for this. You would hope the suits at nascar would see that this is where the sport should be instead of the direction it has been. Other than it’s safety innovations, the competition rules and overall system has been in a downfall since before the whole “chase/playoffs” garbage. Respect between drivers and teams is gone by way of “win and you’re in”. They reward dirty driving instead of consistency. The punish a team that has it figured out on race day and is whopping the field by instituting “segments” basically giving teams behind a handicap so they can keep up. There is the money aspect where winning is not enough as nascar limits sponsorship and needs to give a bigger piece of the revenue to the teams so they can go get the best drivers rather than the rich silver-spoon kid that brings money. For me, a local Saturday night race track super stock and modified race is more exciting and entertaining than most of what nascar offers. 🤷🏽♂️🍻
Come on man....its the same video clips on this topic since 2019. Do something new.
