There are a lot of options out there for pegging beads. This is a great alternative, especially if you are in a bind and all you have is line. Thanks for sharing!
This is a great idea, but I have one concern: since there is nothing preventing the bead from moving up the leader, wouldn't it tend to do so as the rig sinks?
What’s the purpose of having the Bead above the hook instead of on the hook. Clearly I have never fished this way. Just asking because I plan on steelhead fishing next week for the first time.
the entire purpose to pegging plastic beads this way is so that the steelhead wont see the hook, and the egg would look and float more naturally. also, when a steelhead takes the bead, and you set the hook, the hook will swing and set into the steelheads mouth.
Rickie is spot on. Also, by pegging the bead above the hook, the full gap of the hook can be used to hook the fish, and the fish cannot use the bead as leverage to pop the hook free. If I don’t have spawn sacs or am fishing where it is illegal to use them, I will go to a soft bead before anything else. I go through the major colors of orange, pink, yellow, and white. If nothing works there, I hook up a Gulp minnow. If that doesn’t work, I usually find a different spot. Rinse and repeat.
Lol stick the tip of the hook in a branch or piece of wood...this can also be done without keeping your line tight like that. Its just easier when it is.
20 lbs fluorocarbon works really great for me !! Need to change soft beads all the time on the Niagara River

Amazing idea
looks like a uni knot . would you go to a thicker Florocarbon line to tie it????
Takes to long tie just use clear bobber stopper!
Italian Troutaholic That is a UNI night and just about any line would work
Very good
