Meet The Spartans Movie Description:
When Xerxes (Ken Davitian), the evil god king of Persia, sends his massive army to Sparta, King Leonidas (Sean Maguire) and 13 strapping warriors rise up to defend their homeland. Leonidas, Captain (Kevin Sorbo) and the rest face down dancing Persians, bad punch-lines and celebrity look-alikes.
Meet the Spartans is a 2008 American parody film written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. The film is mainly a parody of the 2006 film 300, although it also references many other films, TV shows, people and pop cultural events of the time, in a manner similar to previous films that Friedberg and Seltzer had been involved in such as Scary Movie, Date Movie and Epic Movie. The film stars Sean Maguire, Carmen Electra and Kevin Sorbo.
Meet the Spartans opened at No. 1 in the United States. Despite receiving extremely negative reviews and appearing on several lists of the worst films ever made, it was a box-office success, grossing $84 million on a budget of $30 million.

I know, man. While I despise the ''Movie'' movies outside of Scary Movies 1-4, I'm not going to argue merits of anything with people who do get any sense of enjoyment from these entries. I imagine those who are upset over you not liking Meet the Spartans are among the same who requested these films in the first place while fully aware you're not in favor of their quality already, based on the feelings already shown in the other reactions.

in hindsight, I'm definitely embarrassed for my 15-year-old self who watched this in theater and thoroughly enjoyed it. Man, mid-2000's, what a time to be alive.

I keep forgetting that a lot of people never saw Kevin Sorbo as Hercules. His appearance in this really carried the movie for me and my friends.
My mom got me this movie for Christmas one year when I was little😂😂😂😂I don’t think she realized it wasn’t for kids. It became everyone’s favorite movie for a while at our house.

I loved this movie back in the day, the fact that it's dumb and ridiculous and just so terribly bad in every way possible, is what made it hilarious to me, i watched it with all my friends, it's just a stupid movie not to be taken seriously, and that's what made it fun for us....
The guy playing Leonidas also did a short-lived fantasy spoof show on Comedy Central called Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. I always wished that show had been given more of a chance.

The "gay theme" of the movie is because Spartans (and Greeks in general) didn't have rules against homosexuality and it was often encouraged to create chemistry within the ranks of fighters. A lot of Spartan soldiers slept with each other, as well as women.

You have to understand the time that these movies came out. Cheesy and cringe was in when it came out. Spoof movies are supposed to reference other movies so if you haven’t watched those you will be lost. Spoof movies are just not for Mello and that’s fine.

I think the reasoning behind the Dane Cook jab in the end credits might have had something to do with him stealing Bobby Lee's jokes or comedy material. The guy playing Dane Cook, as well as the lady playing Hilton/Spears/Ellen, were both colleagues of Bobby Lee on Mad TV.

Cabin In The Woods, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, Tucker & Dale Vs Evil, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Sausage Party, Kung Pow: Enter The Fist, and Tropic Thunder disagree. There's lots of good parody movies but like anything, there's a lot more garbage.
@@MCBigman Don't forget Tropic Thunder, Airplane!, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Police Squad (the Naked Gun series was meh)... there's a long history of genre takedowns that are done extremely well, and they definitely fall into the realm of "parody" even though they don't take the "______ Movie" series' lazy, blatantly obvious route to doing it.

The movies are parodies of their time. In the 2000s Bring it Own, Stomp the Yard, and other dumb movies like that were really popular. That is why they are featured so often.

Out of the parody movies done by these guys this one was ok. Just an hour into the movie it was over and i was like thats it?
I watched this first when I was a kid before I even know 300 exist, and I didnt know anything about parody. So when I finally managed to watched the 300, I was like "the hell this is brutal and serious"
For these bottom of the barrel parody movies some of the repeat cast is former Mad TV actor/actresses. Believe it or not they were actually funny on the show. Also Carmen Electra was just a cheap actress with a bit of name recognition and sex appeal who I imagine was desperate for a pay check.
Even tho this movie absolutely sucks…… you have found this very entertaining to watch 👍👍👍😂😂
