📼Video Summary:
The Magic Cube was invented by Ernő Rubik in 1974. Then in the 1980s it was renamed to the Rubik's Cube. The Speed Cube is a special version of the Rubik's Cube that is meant to be solved very quickly. Those that try to solve it quickly are called "Speed Cubers". They use tricks like Corner Cutting and Algorithms to eliminate time. The most popular method for solving the cube is CFOP which has four steps: Cross, F2L (First 2 Layers), OLL (Orientation of Last Layer), and PLL (Permutation of Last Layer). Other methods for solving the cube are Roux, ZZ, and Petrus. Inside the speed cube you'll find the core made up of six center pieces, and then the twenty "cubies" which consist of 12 edge pieces and 8 corner pieces. The Tension System is made of 6 springs inside the Center pieces. Some versions of the cube magnets inside the core - using MagLev technology. Jared, I am thoroughly impressed by this video. As a speedcuber, I can confirm that you clearly put a lot of research into speedcubing and got all the facts right. Your animation skills are also immaculate, as I can recognize the model of speedcube in the video! Well done!
Thanks Maxence - I'm happy to know you approve!
Best goddamn channel on yt 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
im also a speedcuber this vid is cool
I can agree with all of this as well as a speedcuber myself!

Watching this video is a blast from the past of your first Rubik's Cube video!! You've come so far since then. Awesome animation and explanation for the algorithm.
I actually dismantled a Rubik’s cube back in the 80s and that’s how I discovered how it worked…

Great video, Jared! Can’t wait for the 21x21 “how it works” video 😂

Wow, this video is tremendous. The animation isn't just clear and accurate, the narration is concise, educational and on-point as well. Truly a masterclass in how to introduce and explain a complicated topic. What a job well done.
Thank you!
Dude, I'm pretty impressed by this video as a speedcuber. You got everything spot on, and even used the moyu screwdriver! You explained how we solve it very well, and I'm sure a beginner can understand it. What a massive upgrade from your previous Rubik's Cube video!
Thanks Ayden😀
fr, i have so many moyu screwdriver that i recognized it instantly

I am a speedcuber that averages around 6 seconds, and this video is probably the first video I've seen that explains how the cube functions so well! Great job, Jared.
Same!
DAMN YOURE FAST. what method are you using? cfop?

the fact that you managed to animate the cube flexing and corner cutting is extremely impressive
I'm a simple fan, I see a Jared Owen video and I like it instantly cause I know it's gonna be good! Thanks for all the work you put into these animations.

I didn't know how much engineering went into these cubes.
It's like the Rubix's Cube equivalent to a race car.
It has been an evolution by hundreds of people over decades. Seriously.
You'll be surprised. He didn't even present all of it (yet). There are cubes with yet more magnets and more customizability features than what is shown here.
And I think it will be overboard if he started presenting Smartcubes coz they're still not as mature yet.
the x really triggers me as a speedcuber lol
it's really not that deep😂
You consistently have the highest quality animated videos, which, combined with your knowledge and research, is the most enjoyable way to understand something!
Your animations are a great motivator for me to get better at learning Blender, and I enjoy learning about how the items work in the process.
Feel free to take a break with more smaller items if you need, we'll enjoy them just the same.
This was one of the best CZcams videos I've ever seen: the sponsor perfectly matched the subject of the video, the sponsorship segment was seamlessly integrated, the animation was top-notch, and I ended up learning more than I expected (how to solve a Rubik's Cube, not just how it's built).
This is very impressive as a speedcuber this is spot on what a speedcube is and this is just incredible
Thanks for watching!
One of the most sophisticated video about Rubik's Cube ever. I am grateful as a speedcuber for your effort!
Glad I could help😀
As a fan, I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work mate!
Thank you!

@@gk_B Why do you want that? 🤨
This is brilliant, the animations are superb and I can say as a cuber that it's all very accurate, a ton of work went into this, well done!
I'm an old school speedcuber and one inaccuracy is that Rubik's brand cubes have a near identical spring tension system in their core that can be adjusted in the same way. Loosening it to allow corner cutting was common. Filing down the spring ends and smoothing the screw threads were also common mods. I am amazed by all the new innovations! The "MagLev" spring was totally my idea like 20 years ago (and probably other people's too), but I never really had the resources to prototype it. This is the first I've heard of it! Besides the friction advantages, the force is now quadratic with distance instead of linear which I thought would have real advantages! Off to look into it more now...
Nice video!
I myself learned solving one of those with the LBL (Layer by Layer) technique around 15 years ago.
you start out the same as here, but on the last layer, you start by making a yellow cross. Then, you bring the cross in the right position, so that only the edge pieces are random. You then bring the edge pieces in the right place and at the end, you just finish by orienting the edge pieces correctly. It is not the fastest method, but it only requires to learn 7 algorithms, so it is easier if you don't wanna learn a s**t ton of algorithms. Always good fun for impressing friends and also not too hard to learn.
I wanted to keep things simple because most people that watch these videos are going to be "non-cubers" - hopefully I found the right balance!
this is a good method for beginners but if you want to be faster then you should work on knowing full oll and full pll aswell as advanced cross and f2l
full pll is about 21 algorithms but they are all easy to remember
full oll is 57 algorithms which makes it harder to learn out of the two
a good way to learn these algorithms is by remembering patterns in the algorithms such as triggers or parts of other algorithms
Wait if your first step of the last layer if solving the cross why would you need to orient the edges?
@@JaredOwen If you wanted this you should have started with the beginners method, instead of going straight into the cfop. (Same as you said it, but much less confusing name lol)
@@blooberry999 he said 15 years ago, pretty sure they know full cfop by now
This is a speed cube, and this is a fantastic channel. Awesome job Jared and greetings from Brazil.

Jared, Ever since i saw your videos I am deeply impressed at your animations and how you explained them. Nice Work Jared, keep improving.
It is great to see an accurate and well researched video on the workings of speedcubes
If it isn’t too complex, can u take a look at a cnc machining center next? I’ve recently been hooked on cnc videos and have always wondered how they work😊
Nice video mate! Great insight into the world of speedcubing
Thanks!
Always impressed by how much detail you put in your vidoes while remaining entertaining.
I love your videos as well as everyone in the comments so far. I felt great seeing a youtuber I like making a video with a program I love (and have open on my computer as I type) about a topic that I'm getting better and better in!
As a slow speed cuber, I can confirm that this is how it works. Like I have the exact cube used in this

May I join your "slow speed cuber" club? I have a lot of experience!
Nice! I bought the spring and maglev version for this video. I can confirm that the Maglev version is much better
@@JaredOwen I have one with the alignment magnets, but it has a slightly different spring tensioning mechansim. You don't have to change the screw setting, but it has a sort of ratcheted plastic holder around the spring with teeth set at different heights. Like in a bic pen, but with like 8 stop points instead of just 2.

Terrific animation and spot-on summary what a speed cube is about.
What a thorough explanation. 10/10 will use your video as standard guide to hook new cubers. What a surprise with that sponsor, this gotta be the best partnership they invest.

I recently watcht a video about corner cutting and how it was resolved, nice to see one of your videos about a topic
I have no ability to do anything 3D related..... That said, this was so darn fascinating! Thanks for another awesome use of CG art for spreading knowledge! Now, since this got me in the Jared Owen 3D mood, let me find an older video of yours to watch again!
Research is clearly thorough, as a speed cuber I enjoy the little additions here and there of intricate details, it really brings the video together. Already buy from SCS so no need to worry, seeing how the corner piece was modelled and how on the face of the piece it was fully square and not rounded, which helps to not let the corer twist, can't even begin to imagine how you model those details let alone an the opera house, would love to see a part 2 covering some other things like core magnets, piece patterns and some other cool systems but if not that was still a great video. Keep up the great work :)
Thanks for the kind words😀
As a speed cuber, this is an excellent video. Explains the core concepts of speedcubing and how a rubiks cube works. I have many 3x3s and I can assure you that when you take them apart, they look exactly like the cube in this video. Great video and keep up the great animations!!!
Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you liked the video!

I have a suggestion for a video, what if you made a video on how a DSLR camera works it is very fascinating.
As a speedcuber I am so glad to have watched this video today

The animation, the little details and the fact that he included corner cutting is amazing
anybody that's not an all-time speedcuber rarely adds in corner cutting ✂️
PS: if this man adds the Gan Maglev system with the magnets attached to the bottom of the corner pieces imma go crazy
I thought about it! But I worried about going in to deep because most of my audience are not speed cubers
