- What is POP and IMAP? How does email work? This is an animated video explaining the difference between POP and IMAP. These are email protocols that are used to retrieve email from an email client, such as Microsoft Outlook. Should I choose POP or IMAP? Which one is better?

Hey! I wonders what software you use to creating the video? It look very neat and beautiful to use it
After successfully wasting 6 years of my life I understand the meaning of "no copy is left on the server" .Thanks Sir
MY GOD, so many years and now I completely understand the differences between this two protocol. Thank you!
@Jacoby Santana What a lucky girl to have you huh
Me too. Thanks for the video
Serious this is the single best explanation on CZcams about the difference in these two mail protocols. I'm currently studying for my 10-006 network + exam and all my study material doesn't explain it this well. This channel is a great resource for anyone learning about networking concepts. Thanks!
Thank you :)
Top class , the animations make these all the better and easier to understand
@@PowerCertAnimatedVideos Please make more videos on computer hardware and networking. You explanation is excellent and full of informative
The best explanation is: "POP goes the weasel and weasel goes POP!!" ... lol (by the way that was song by 3rd Base), but I think I'm going IMAP. ;)
I want to Ur study material
Please. Please make more videos. Your explanations along with the animation works very effectively.
You set a very high standard for explainer videos.
I agree. Please make more videos.
Clap, clap, now this is the way to make a tutorial video...straight to the point with put all the malarky filler junk.....Excellent video
Every time when I got stuck into a situation where I am not able to understand any topic, that I need to cover in a short time, from any other channel, I used to visit your channel videos, and finally, it is the place where I am able to find the content (animated) that satisfies my need and my mind. Thanks a lot!😊
Great job with this! You have one of the few channels where I get excited to see a new upload!
Your video explained what two months of troubleshooting and chat support couldn't. Thank you.
Good content, good visuals, organized, great delivery. I always applaud well-thought-out content delivery and this video is not an exception.
Perfectly explained! Not only did you explain it, you also recapped as well. Love it!!
I'm seriously astonished at how great these explanations are. It's difficult to find something similar on youtube.
I think this guy should teach step by step to the bean counters of Boeing why the 737-Max 8 is a flaw. For sure some engineers at Boeing have done that but to explain complex stuff in a clear and straightforward way would give amazing clarity.
I have seen some videos about cables, WEP/WPA, DHCP in this same channel and it is incredibly clear. I'm thinking of sharing them with my 79-y.o. mom. Very good scripts, graphics, voice and timing. Keep up the good work!
In one word, its beautiful. Never thought it could be so easy, the technique you used just engraved the picture within me. Love your explanation.
I have always been confused as to what these mean when setting up my email accounts remotely on my personal devices. Another great video
I have never been able to understand that much clear explanation ever before. thanks for making such a informative video.
I wish my professors were as clear in things. Very easy to understand video. I'm subscribing to learn more.
Thank you.
One of the best CZcams channel.... Clear explanation is the best part
Thank you for this clear and concise explanation. This is the first time I have actually understood the two protocols and how to decide which one I should be using.
Absolutely wonderful explanations all around! It is so helpful how you not only provide an explanation/description of a technology and the way it works but then you immediately provide an example demonstrating the explanation.
The best best best explanation ever in youtube, simple, clear and direct to the point.
Thanks.
One of the best explanation about the difference between IMAP and POP3 mail protocols. It was so easy to understand your explanation. Great work!!
Best tutorial on POP3 vs IMAP that I have found.
Wow! Too good I must say. Amazingly explained the difference. The way it was elaborated was fantastic.
Thank you
This video is just what everyone needs to get a hold on understanding what is and what the difference is.
Great content and on point visual explanation.
Thank you!
At last! I finally understand what pop3 & IMAP are. Thanks so much.
The way of explanation is simple & elegant
Thank you for always speaking clearly and in a way that a tech beginner can understand!
Thank you.
Very well explained, especially the technical and practical aspects.
I've been using the Internet since 1996/1997, when we only had dialup Internet access, so my e-mail client Netscape mail and Outlook Express used POP to download e-mails from my mailbox and then hang up when done. Ditto when sending mail. As you rightly pointed out, with POP the downloaded e-mail resides on the client and is still accessible on the client even without an Internet connection. I make it a point to regularly back up the messages, addresses and settings of my e-mail client and move it to external storage.
Since then I have continued to use mostly POP to access my personal e-mail even over an always-connected fibre connection but I have begun to use IMAP for e-mail accessed by parties or devices, such as association or business e-mail. A slight disadvantage is that it takes a bit longer to download all the content, especially attachments with an e-mail message, than with POP e-mail, but that's not a major issue. Of course, if my Internet connection is down, it will certainly be an issue with accessing IMAP e-mail messages, though in that case, being unable to download or send POP e-mail without an Internet connections is not very much better.
"A slight disadvantage is that it takes a bit longer to download all the content, ..."
I don't think this is much of an issue, especially not back then when the internet connections were much slower than today.
Thanks. Your clear narration and animation makes it easy to understand.
Brilliant! 10/10. All the effort you have gone to in preparing this material is greatly appreciated. It couldn't be clearer.
Oh I'm subscribing! This was a clear and easy to understand explanation. So grateful for your help here.
Excellent explanation for someone who is not computer savvy, I agree with Kenneth and keep on doing what you're doing great job!

Yes. Thanks for a hammering-it-in explanation and enhancements. To pound a nail into hard wood, repeated blows of a hammer are often needed.
I like the simple teaching, you are so good in explaining technical things.
Wow! I struggled with this a while back. Things we take for granted. Thank you so much, this helped a lot.
WIthout a doubt, one of the best tutorial channels on the Internet. Keep it up, and good luck!
The only video i needed for the topic ...concepts were so easily understandable....Thank You SIr
Clean explanation. Way better voice and narration than techquickie has, don't even mention about Hindi 'profesionals'. Looking forward to your new videos. BTW appreciate gags at the endings.

I rarely comment but if something is good, it's worth saying it.
wow! That was an absolutely fantastic explanation. I like how you gave different examples, I think that was pretty awesome. I can't wait to watch your other videos. Maybe you will have a video about networking. 🙌✔
Amazing video, I finally understand! You were clear and concise, which is super appreciated
Wonderfully taught! I prefer imap since I use gmail alot, makes it easier to delete from both locations and I like that I can sync all of my folders when using it in outlook.
Thanks. You explained better than other videos that I found.
Fantastic video! Thank you so much for providing this information. Easy to understand the content and excellent presentation!
The time and effort you put into these vedios is amazing
Thank you for this excellent explanation, I have seen several before but this is the first that really makes sense!
Since my email client (Forte Agent) only works with POP3 I don't use IMAP, but I'm not sure how IMAP would work when I have email accounts with several providers and I often create and merge folders in FA.
You mentioned that POP3 deletes emails as it downloads them - however all my mbxs on websites have emails going back years, I suspect that is because I use the FA option not to delete messages on the website as they are read.
You are an Educator Extraordinaire' for the Textually Challenged! Awesome Job with the Animation series... Big Cheers Mate! Thanks.
Many mail clients have an option to leave the original mail copy on mail server even with POP3. Great detail. Btw, Gmail Pop3 configuration keeps mail on server even after retrieval, by default.
you are a great teacher ...very informative ..... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK SIR
Thank you
Thank you for keeping it straight to the point and precise.
Expecting more IT explanation videos from you guys.
Very clean explanation of the differences, however, you left out one aspect:
IMAP Advantage: The mail stays on the server. Disadvantage: The mail stays on the server.
If one is concerned with privacy, one does not want one's mail sitting there on someone else's server. With POP, your mail is moved to your control (for better or worse...)
The best chanel I ever visited. Thank you so much for the knowledge!
Good and clear explanation!
The problem with IMAP however, as I have found after 23 years in the IT business, is that many clients want to use IMAP for use with multiple devices, but will not remember that IMAP will most assuredly cause their mailbox on the server to fill up with old mail messages and eventually people trying to send to your email address will receive the message "Recipient mailbox is full". Like a bucket under a dripping water tap, the bucket will finally overflow unless some or all of the water in it is emptied periodically.
It does not really matter how large the allocation of space for the mailbox may be, over enough time and enough incoming messages this invariably becomes a problem because users/clients do not manage their email correctly.
I have a few users who send/receive approximately 15 to 20GB every 1 year. Yes, I agree, their mailboxes will hit the (50GB) limit in a couple of years. Mailbox limit used to be 10 to 20 MB about 25 years ago. It has multiplied by a large number but users now send hundreds of MB attachments every day.
@@shaggydawg5419 Where I am located that space of 50GB would cost a bundle on any commercially available server. With that allocation of space many problems that I see would be mostly solved, but even clients who have large space (in our terms that would be 20GB) do not want to pay for it and even after being advised to manage their space allocation, the problem can remain. We then get the complaint "My email doesn't work anymore!"
Very clear explanation. Thank you very much. Now to watch the rest of your videos.
