  • OMRON Healthcare HeartGuide ($499 at amzn.to/2NUrauE) the first wearable blood pressure monitor, see my recent interview with Omron here: • CES 2021: Omron VitalS... and Complete the first blood pressure monitor with EKG in a single device with a new digital health service to advance the company’s mission of Going for Zero heart attacks and strokes the OMRON app downloads consumer data, track it over time, and share it with a physician. Increased usage of the OMRON product and app ecosystem has produced compelling testimonials about genuine behavior change, increased physical activity, and better weight management. At CES 2020, OMRON is previewing an advanced digital health service that will noticeably increase the value of every OMRON connected blood pressure monitor. OMRON Connect 2.0 new mobile app experience will act as a personal heart health coach that will provide users with expanded health insights, real-time coaching, and incentives for behavior change. OMRON Connect 2.0 will represent a merger of the brand’s two apps, HeartAdvisor and OMRON Connect, and will be compatible with all OMRON connected blood pressure monitors designed to foster patient-doctor dialogue, advance heart health education, and provide personalized insights based on lifestyle and daily activities. Through a partnership with RxCap Inc., OMRON Connect 2.0 will pair with smart medication caps to monitor adherence and set reminders to take specific medications Achieving Measurable Behavior Change OMRON customers have shared personal stories about the behavior change they have been able to achieve by regularly using the OMRON product and app ecosystem. A consumer who gave OMRON permission to share his story had three strokes in early 2019. His doctor instructed him to start monitoring his blood pressure regularly, and after extensive research, he purchased HeartGuide and began using the HeartAdvisor app. Shortly after he started using HeartGuide, it alerted him to a possible irregular heartbeat. He shared the HeartAdvisor data with his doctor who ran tests, confirmed the finding, and adjusted his medication Regular self-monitoring can reduce stroke risk significantly, by up to 20 percent and can even cut the risk of coronary artery disease by up to 10 percent.

I purchased this product in 2019 in the US in the foolish expectation that it would "do as it says on the tin" However I have gone over and back to Omron since then to notify them that the product does not record BP accurately. I have compared the measurements with a reputable BP monitor and the differences are alarming. It is surprising that a company like Omron actually sells expensive products like this knowing that it will not work for everyone! God help anyone who is relying on the heart guide for their health! Incidentally I spent an hour with the after sales service verifying that I used it properly and that it worked.

I agree with you James, I think smartwatches that measure BP accurately are still a year to 2 years away. I really don't understand they got FDA approval for this device. Extremely dangerous for hypertensive patients. For those of us who are hypertensive we should continue to depend on BP monitors.

I think the problem is that wrist measurements are inherently less accurate then upper arm cuffs.
I mean, if you position your arm correctly, body posture is perfect, etc. then a manufacturer can get consistent results and thus FDA approval; but the reality with patient is that they make mistakes and upper arm cuffs are more forgiving (especially when you average 3 measurements).

The next step is 24-hr ambulatory wrist watch monitor that records pressure in intervals undetected. There are studies that have proven that nocturnal blood pressure may give you are a truer picture of where your blood pressure readings are vs daytime pressure. On the other hand, due to the fact that blood pressure changes from second to second, a nocturnal pressure reading that disturbs the sleep will most likely be just as inaccurate as a daytime reading. There is much to learn regarding the sensitivity of isolating this data. Prayerfully, the science and technology is moving in the right direction.

    • @sarowie
      @sarowie Před rokem

measuring blood pressure "undeceted" - meaning without an air pump and air release valve making noises - leaves you with optical, which is less accurate and needs an upper arm cuff measurement for calibration. If you happen to lay on your arm during sleep, that affects the blood flow to the lower arm (while the blood pressure on the upper arm is still pretty accurate).

I mean there are throat mics that are a band that goes around your neck that are just as good as any other external wearable mic. They haven't/can't do the same thing with the BP monitor? I mean your arteries are right there, I wouldn't think a neck wearable BP monitor wouldn't be that hard to come up with.

wrist based blood pressure monitors can not measure during walking, let alone running.
You can try to hold you arm still during a walk, but... that is tricky.
I highly doubt that you can hold you arm still and at hearth level while running.
Letting you arm down results in a high reading.
Moving you arms lets to a nonsensical reading.
Try an upper arm blood pressure monitor; as long as you don't specfically lift you arms, the cuff will roughly be at hearth level.

All one has to do is watch some comparative studies by medical data statisticians evaluating these devices to realize these watches are not ready for market yet when dealing with blood pressure measurement. You might find it of interest that MDs have weighed in on the Amazon Omron watch sales site. In customer comments, they are saying the same thing I am saying here. it is wrist based. Upper arm blood pressure monitors are the standard.
They deliver good results even with some user error.
Lower arm blood pressure monitors are sensitive to how you are holding your arm and overall body posture.
Try different arm positions and you get different results. It's physics, you can't avoid that.

I guess they do take into account that the wrist pressure is different and etc.. having interviewed Omron a few times, latest in my video here czcams.com/video/vLfpZNfEP94/video.html it seems it's also something that is important is how the measurement is made, people thinking they can take a measurement in the middle of exercising and etc, that is hard to compare and take into account.

@@reneedubuc3712 your on the right track. Upper arm blood pressure monitors naturally end up on heart level (unless you stretch out your arm right in front of you, which would be silly) - just sit down and relax.
Meanwhile a wrist blood pressure monitor... you really need to concisely rise them to hearth level and wait in that position.
If you do that in a clinical setting with doctors and Omron staff giving clear instructions, that works.
Sell it as a product and people do not read the instruction, do not take them seriously and even if they did they get lazy.
Meanwhile upper arm blood pressure monitors naturally end up on hearth level, so all a doctor has to ask is posture during measurement and activities 30 mins before the measurement was taken.

Before you buy this bp watch , make sure it is accurate and usable...i already made a study of the older wrist model...simply useless...there are also published papers saying it is ok...but for me...useless...be careful...
