    Its quiet sad to hear that we are quiet developed and evolving everyday but still we dont have a perfect solution for a common(since many suffer) problem like hiatus hernia whereby we could be assure that once we go into surgery we dont suffer from problems like acid reflux,bloating,unable to burp and vomit after surgery !!

    • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD  Před rokem +17

      It’s important that heart and lung issues have been excluded. There are esophageal conditions that can cause these symptoms. While waiting for GI it may help to speak with your primary team about your anxiety. Sometimes it’s the thing that most needs to be addressed. The brain is the only organ more vital than the heart and lungs, so it makes sense to think about mental health early, rather than leave it as a diagnosis of exclusion. Hope you find some relief!

My GP is really against me having the surgery as he says he sees patients the other end and there are risks but also most he sees are unable to vomit or burp which causes other problems? On a background of anxiety this has caused me alot of worry. Not sure where to turn as I have just turned 29 and the consultant said best to get it done now while I am young but don’t feel able to make a decision, any advice?

    If not, what can I do to improve my S.O.B. symptoms, heart palpitations, bloating, belly pain, nausea, etc? I'm not obese, and don't eat greasy food. Any advice would be appreciated. Of course, just generally what I can do. Thank you in advance!

    Hello Dr Copper, great presentation. Based on my last endoscopy, I have a sliding hiatal hernia and recently developed LPR symptoms in my throat. I must be lucky? Im great shape for my age, not overwight, i.e. and I have been following a strict diet. Does LPR eventually go away or is this something serious that is caused by bacteria, i.e? To be honest, I can deal with the reflux but LPR in my throat is scary. Please advise, Thanks

    • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for watching. You may want to review this with your ENT and GI doctor since they are managing your care. Data shows PPI doesn’t help LPR which begs whether acid reflux is its sole cause. An impedance study can show whether reflux is routinely reaching the upper esophagus.

Palpitation does also occur sometimes. I honestly cannot judge the situation completely but when I took anti acid medications all these symptoms just vanished but when taking it I get insane abdominal pain and digestion problems. Red wine can definitely trigger symptoms - any alcohol can. There’s no distinct benefit of red wine (though lots of marketing hyped it up). If you find it’s a trigger then may be best avoided.

    I have a hiatal hernia and deal with the feeling of something in my throat. I am nauseous almost all the time. I had a swallow study and an esophageal mammography. I dont have stomach protrusion but my LES is really tight and doesn’t respond to opening like it should. My doctor isn’t doing anything but prescribing me acid meds which DONT work because I’m NOT acidy. 🤦‍♀️ idk what to do anymore. Pretty limited on digestive specialists in my area.

    • @MarkCooperMD
      @MarkCooperMD  Před rokem +1

      It sounds like you have an esophageal motility issue. The acid suppression can still help by reducing how much acid bathes the esophagus - not all is felt. Unless you have had a pH study it’s hard to know if you’re not having significant esophageal acid. If a primary esophageal motility issue then management is different. It sounds like you may need a second opinion. Sorry I’m not in position to give one in this context.

    So I’ve been having odd burping/ hiccups for a while. I can feel pressure in my stomach, right under my sternum, and immediately I have a bunch of gas bubble up into my throat. It’s not really even a burp it just comes up and can’t stop it if I want to most times. Sometimes if I squeeze my abdominal muscles after I feel the initial pressure in my stomach it goes away. I was having acid reflux style chest pain along with this months ago but has since stopped. Could this be a hiatal hernia? Or something else that it might be?

    I have acid reflux and my endoscopy showed a minor (5%) hiatal hernia. It didn't show anything alarming overrall.
    I know that hernia could cause problems but I think my reflux is more due to bloating. After I eat ANYthing, my tummy blows up like a balloon. My bf eats the exact same thing and doesn't get bloated, so it's not the food I cook. I eat well, vegetables, poultry, lean meat. I eat plain unsalted crackers to try to calm my stomach.
    I was taking omeprazole for years and I got nervous about its long-term affects and switched to famotidine, after a long withdrawal period. Either way I always have had bloating.
    I am somewhat overweight but not exceedingly so. I wish I knew how to prevent the bloating before it happens.

I was going through a lot of trauma and sadness so I trusted this doctor. Found out from another doctor I wasn’t going to die. Scary who was feeling the truth?
    The surgeon said 40 percent of my stomach was up in the bottom of my throat. She said she had ti anchor it done. I haven’t seen the images yet. Question how is something like that anchored in the body was it necessary. Last how I feel, I feel horrible 24/7 even when I am sleeping. Basically I feel nauseated all the time. Even with prescription meds which I have. Also it feels like some one is continuously hard gut punch me in the stomach. Then hanging on my muscles and organs and pulling firmly downward.

Usually if I am really hungry or have just eaten, especially really fatty foods (not necessarily greasy). Im also burping up food and have occasionally feelings of heartburn, and antacids or PPI's do not help. I was told I had a minor hiatal hernia a couple years ago before these severe symptoms started. Exercise is causing mine to get worst. BMI is 27. I have a dilemma. Need to lose weight to help hernia conditions I would think through exercise, exercises causes symptoms to magnify.
    Over the last 2 years palpitations are nothing like they were. They happen more from esophagitis, inflammation from acid causing swelling and putting pressure on vagus nerves. Over time I would do the pushdown stomach method. Which has help from stomach being so pushed up in esophagus. A chiropractor may can help repositioning stomach.
    Also sitting up during sleeping will help; although I dont have alot of experience.
    I dont think our bodies were made for standing and sleeping!

Did a chest x-ray and Saw ears and nose and throat Doctor and everything was fine.I'm trying to get a sooner appointment with the GI Doctor . A significant hiatal hernia would unlikely be missed. Small ones slide and vary in size - these are also less symptomatic. As for things that are worse it’s unlikely for anything concerning to develop in the short course from 2 years ago.
