As RM once explained in Wings behind story that Jimin used to blame himself for so many things like the failures and shortcomings and being like "I can't do this or I'm not good enough". And this song was born that reflects his mentality. This song is an inner fight between his two sides, the true and insecure self and the masked one he created to face the world but it's hard to carry on. This song is indeed a masterpiece which shows how dealing with your insecurities and inner demons looks like.
Lie was written by Jimin about his past self. He blamed himself for his short falls and felt he wasn’t good enough. While writing he was deep in the lies from his past, blaming himself regardless of the truth. He pondered on his flaws and mistakes even if others didn’t.
Jimin has a few solos but each one is memorable. Lie is a masterpiece. Classical musicians reacting to this song don’t expect an orchestra and Spanish-guitar in the opening. When he sings ‘caught in a lie’ , the impact that it goes from minor to major creates anxiety and is almost a lie in itself. Jimin’s performances are always captivating.

He's talking about the first big lie in life, the kind that takes away your innocense. Once you tell that, you can't take it back. Going forward you're caught in the reality resulting from that one lie, both mentally and physically.
In Jimin's case he's notoriously hard on himself and caught between his inner struggles of insecurity and outward appearences.
Jimin even put a lie into the music: When he sings "caught in a lie", he switches from minor to major, which is typically used to express happiness musically, so he's essentially using the different chords to "lie". Pure genius! It's my absolute favorite of Jimin's solo songs. 💜

In the words of Korean fans - "he brought the classical modern dance/style into kpop" Jimin set the bar so high, and keeps proving how he's the standard!
This song is a good example of text painting (all the song is in minor but when he says "caught in a lie" it's in major, so the major chord is the lie itself.
This song is personal to Jimin. He talks about the struggles he’s faced in this song, especially the ones regarding loving himself. RM mentioned in a live that the lyrics were written by Jimin and he was blown away by his talent, and that it's personal to Jimin himself and it talks about who is and what he feels. RM said that Jimin talked to him about not feeling good enough and was always blaming himself for every mistake in the past, basically lying to himself that he isn't doing well and generally being too hard on himself, so that was the main inspiration for that song along with him struggling with his appearance.
Jimin struggled a lot with his image through the years; from finding it hard to maintain the muscular body that initially made him stand out to going to extreme and unhealthy lengths to lose weight and appear more "handsome" and "idol-like" for the fans (he went on a diet that caused him to eat only a proper meal every ten days). Over the years, Jimin finally overcame many of the struggles that made him write this song and became an icon who shatters toxic masculinity, stereotypes and is glowing while being who he is. Jimin struggled a lot before coming to love himself for the way he is.
