And main problem is that till any political entity is in power they only propagate their version of history and don't entertain any history that goes against them. Even if u give proof or facts they will underplay that fact and will downplay any incident that is untoward to ideology of the govt of the day

    In the American educational system, we too have an injustice in the manner to which we are taught. The occupation of several middle eastern countries over the years, done mostly in junction with the British, is not spoken of or taught. We are not taught what actually occurs when troops are sent for years at a time over there. We are simply told about history up to WW2. After which it is presumed that all other conflicts are a matter of the US stepping in when "help" is needed. Though, like in Syria, this "help" is not welcomed or asked for. The governmental world powers, which wear kindly masks and pretend to do all things for the sake of kindness, are in fact pushing western expectations on the rest of the globe.

    Sashi cannot blame Varna system which was acutally based on qualities rather than birth,. Jathis of India were based on qualities before rigid, birth based caste system was shoved down the throats of then slaves by East India company agnets and their British henchmen. The word caste itself was derived from the portuguese word called CASTA (meaning racial hierarchy).

    • @rigormortis6481
      @rigormortis6481 Před 7 lety +2

      If I may, while caste is indeed a loan word from Portuguese; but even within the varna system; the Brahmans and upper castes dominated both the religious and political hierarchies. (From what I can fathom anyways). When did the varna system lose its original purpose of identifying the status of particular jatis within the particular hierarchy and became rigidly based on birth , is a matter of debate. Was it during the Guptas or earlier; or was it a reaction to the subsequent Afghan and Turkic invasions. The only way I have observed social mobility within the various jatis was when some would rise up and establish a political dynasty or in other words defeat the established higher varnas. Then they would become Ksahtriyas and otherwise. (The Nanda dynaty come to mind here, according to some historians). The caste system as we know it today was well established long before the British became a political force in the sub continent. The British, with their rigid focus on established and immobile peasant communities for the purpose of revenue extraction, further exacerbated the issue.
      Would like to hear your thoughts on this.

      himanshu caste system existed in europe and every society around the world.Go to any country like china,egypt,arabia,europe etc always noble class or upper class people ruled for many centuries.Royal familes ruled their country for many years in form of nepotism where the son of the king ruled regardless of his quality.Very few societies had merit based system like today we have.unlike today where we have exams and merit based society most nations in -past were all ruled by upper class all the timeSo even europeans and aficans,arabians etc had their own caste system.So caste was not limited only to india.It was spread around the world.Only in 19th century the modern merit based examination sysstem was introduced whichc allowed people from everyclass to rise in sopciety depending on their merit.So please read alll the history before blaming idnia for caste system

    • @rigormortis6481
      @rigormortis6481 Před 7 lety

      @ Croc: FYI not blaming anything on anyone. Please do not put words in my mouth based on your thoughts alone. I was replying to the OP based on how he seems to say/ believe that the varna system was based on qualities alone. Maybe it was in the Vedic age, but that has not been true for at least the last thousand years or more.
      As to you observations; yes, somewhat true. Similar to three estates system of pre revolutionary France. However, since you insinuate that you have read more in to the history of the world; do answer some of my queries as stated above and below.
      While there was indeed a caste system, or something similar around the world; however even there was still a chance for caste mobility. To reiterate the France example; a person could enroll himself/ take the oath of the Church and move to the second estate of the priests. Do you think that a similar process was achievable in India, say by a Chandal/ Chamar who strived to become a Brahmin priest ? Do you think that he would be even afforded the chance to learn the Holy scriptures, or even enter the temple for that matter ?The only instances of caste mobility I have seen in India is when the entire Jati would become powerful, militarily or financially, usually by dint of having rebelled against their caste superiors or becoming financially better off usually due to some external circumstances. The Nandas were literally called "the slayers of Kshatriyas" They seized the throne and moved up in the varna system, or is it not so ?
      The problem with the Indian system, as it appears to me is its very rigidity. No matter how high you rise up in your life, a person born into the lower caste will remain in that varna until his death. He cannot go into temples frequented by the upper castes, cannot marry into their families and cannot participate in many religious practices that require a priest. There are always exceptions, but I am talking about the norm here, based on my own reading and personal experiences.
      Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this.

    • @rayntyron7521
      @rayntyron7521 Před 7 lety +2

      himanshu gogi again you are talking nonsense.caste mobility definitely existed in india.There are many cases where low caste people created their own empires and decalred themsleves to be upper caste kashatriyas.go read about ready dynasty,gupta dynasty,sunga dynasty etc who were all founded by non kashatriya people or farming community people.SO if caste mobility didnt exist then how did this low caste people rise to ebcome upper caste rulers,huh?Also You claim that in indian hindu temples dalit are not allowed to enter temple but in church they were allowed to but your comparision is wrong.You are comparing dalits of india and comparing their exclusion with almost all the church people which is wrong.For instance in hindu temples almost all hindus were allowed into temples and many ow caste hindus even became priests.Popular hindu yoga teacher baba ramdev belongs to farming caste but still he is considered as a priest or brahmin scholar by hindu people.There are many such low caste people have became brahmins in temples.Also in christianity there is untouchability praced too.go read about cagots in france and spain who were treated as untouchables.Go read about how gypsies and blacks were not allowed to drink water from same pool!!!For centuries, through the modern times, the majority regarded Cagots of western France and northern Spain as an inferior caste, the untouchables. While they had the same skin color and religion as the majority, in the churches they had to use segregated doors, drink from segregated fonts, and receive communion on the end of long wooden spoons. It was a closed social system. The socially isolated Cagots were endogamous, and chances of social mobility non-existent!!So christianity also had untouchability and in hinduism caste mobility definitely was possible.So again please4 go get educated on indaian matters before talking n0nsense!!

    • @rigormortis6481
      @rigormortis6481 Před 7 lety +2

      .There are many cases where low caste people created their own empires and declared themselves to be upper caste kashatriyas
      Yes, but however as I pointed out; this was more as a result of the particular Jati rising up and usurping the throne for themselves; so in effect a violent upheaval and a drastic change of power structure of the particular area. It had little to do with upper caste benevolence as such. Plus, even these Jatis with social mobility still required the justification by their "caste superiors", particularly the Brahmins, which they usually did by making up extensive genealogies and showing the usurper to have descended from some Hindu deity. And that was more in the early and medieval eras of Indian history. Modern instances, particularly after the coming of the Afghans and the Mughals are very very rare, in fact so rare for it to be just an anomaly. If you look at my first post, I say exactly that. Caste mobility was there; perhaps in the early and medieval periods, but it became insanely rigid at some point of time, maybe by the time of the Guptas or as a reaction to the Afghan invasions.
      There are many such low caste people have became brahmins in temples".
      Any concrete examples, such as a name or the period ?
      almost all hindus were allowed into temples and many low caste hindus even became priests."
      The keyword here being "almost", I feel. As before, a concrete example would be nice.
      The term dalit itself is quite a recent term. They constitute the Jatis which were in effect outside of the four point varna system i.e they were not even Shudras. So comparing them with Baba Ramdev is a moot point, I feel since he had the surname of "Yadav". So his acceptance as a Yogic teacher can be attributed to the fact that he could claim descent from Krishna, could he not? This argument will only end when a Dalit becomes a priest in a popular hindu temple, in my humble opinion.
      Also, no one is insinuating that the Europeans were much more enlightened than Indians. They had far worse practices, and were in fact communal perhaps even before the word came into fashion. However, post enlightenment Europe has certainly moved on, while it seems we have not.
      Also, how do you attribute the rise of the Bhakti movements in India ? Would you say it would be incorrect to state that the Bhakti tradition itself was a counter reaction to both the advent of the Afghans and the rigid varna system being followed at the time ?

    According to a conservative estimate by a group of eminent economists Britain owes India about 200 trillion US dollars at current prices, as reparations. This is the scale of the loot spread over 200 years. Also, the number of Indians who died in recurring famines in India during the glory years of Crown Rule is, according to an estimate by a white anglo-saxon protestant British scholar based in Oxford University around 65 million. Not a single white Englishman died of starvation during British rule in India.( rather they died of over eating) This was genocide of Indians. Tharoor doesnt seem to be aware of the third degree torture that the colonial police reserved for nationalists in colonial India. Has he been to the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar islands, which was established after 1857? Far greater numbers were slaughtered all over north India for two years by the Birtish than by the Nazis after the Indian revolution of 1857. This was a genocide of gargantuan proportions as it went on for two years till 1859.

    Indian culture is spoken of as being centuries in existence. We're aware of two cultures which seem to have prevailed and left evidence of their having been here.
    India seems to still be here notwithstanding being several centuries before the Greeks and the Romans. Can one assume that the basis of Indian culture has facilitated survival because of something about a more basic and enduring ingredient in its cultural fundamentals?

    Sanjeev Sanyal rightly characterizes Charles Allen as a patronizing racist. He also contrasts Indonesian historiography with the Indian. Perhaps the reason is that the Indonesian school system does not systematically deny access to the language of academic discourse to all but a small elite. To my knowledge, knowledge of Dutch is not a cruel tool of exclusion in Indonesia as English is in India. Access to good schooling in Indonesia, to my knowledge, is not oppressively divided between modern education for a small elite and abysmally inadequate education for the rest. IIM Bangalore spends more on the barbed wire fence that keeps out hoi polloi from its sprawling campus than a typical Karnataka medium high school in Bangalore does on library for its students, assuming that Karnataka medium high schools in Bangalore have a library.

Out of all rulers the British gave education dress code and good administration , transport facilities,road,electricity,laws,all the Government Depart ments, railway, aircraft, built dams for irrigation introduced many scientific techniques for the improvement of many. To cut the story into short 99% people of India lived under hopelessness .If we had not received Independence we would have been developed as Australia which is still under the control of The British. In no way they are as bad as our Politicians and Rulers. They only united India under one banner Still we are not united. We are divided in Caste Religion, Region.
