St. George, the most important soldier-saint in the Christian tradition, was born in Lod (Lydda). His remains are kept in the crypt of the Greek-Orthodox church. The church was first constructed in the Byzantine period, rebuilt by the Crusaders, and rebuilt during the late Ottoman period.
St George was born and lived in the 3rd century AD in the city of Lod (Lydda). George, an early Christian, served as a Roman tribune and died in Asia Minor in 303. He is the most important soldier-saint in the Christian tradition since the Byzantine period.
According to one of the legends, George was a victim of the last and most severe of persecutions of the Christians in the Roman empire. Diocletian ( Caesar 284-305) issued an edict in 303 AD, instructing that all Christians should be purged from the Roman Army. During the army’s roll call in the city he was stationed in, Nicomedia, the edict was announced, and George - who until then secretly practiced Christian faith - tore up the letter. This revealed his secret, and the court sentenced him to a gruesome death: George was placed in a barrel, head down, and he drowned from the spit of the 6000 soldiers.
George is regarded as a martyr, a great Holy warrior saint, and is also illustrated in all Greek Orthodox Churches as the “dragon slayer”. The dragon-slaying is based on a tradition, probably told during the Crusaders period, of an event that happened in Lebanon many years after the martyr’s death. According to this legend, a princess was threatened by a dragon, and George appeared and with great heroism attacked and killed the dragon with a spike. In these illustrations, the princess is seen hiding in a fortress and George spikes the dragon.
This church was dedicated to St George in Byzantine times. A stone coffin is located in the crypt of the modern church, where according to the tradition his bones are located.
Church of Saint George is one of the two major shrines for the fourth-century Christian martyr Saint George. The church is located in Lod, Israel. The current church, built in 1870, shares space with the El-Khidr Mosque often associated with Saint George.
Toward the end of the nineteenth century, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem received permission from the Ottoman authorities to build a church on the site of a previous basilica. The church is built over a ruined 12th-century Crusader structure and occupies the north end of the nave and left-hand aisle of the earlier church, from which two apses survive - which, contrary to the normal rule, face north rather than east.
The Ottoman authorities stipulated, that part of the plot be made available for a mosque. Mosque far older than rebuilt 19th-century Greek church is Mamluk from 14th century. Consequently, the current Church of St. George incorporates only the northeast corner of the Byzantine basilica. The remains of the Byzantine basilica including its apse are incorporated into the mosque; the Crusader church took a different, if adjacent, location. Some of it, too, is part of the mosque complex. The prayer hall of the adjacent mosque contains a column that once stood in the nave of the basilica.
The church crypt contains the sarcophagus of St George.

@@zahishaked Palestinians are from ancient Canaanite DNA. Some Arabs are there and south Syrians too. Being Jewish is a religion that anyone can be. Being an European Jew has no relation to ancient Israelites of Jacob which was a bloodline. Therefore the Palestinians are the indigenous ones. By the way since 1948-EVERYDAY is October 7th for Palestinians!

Jesus was nothing more than a human being like us expect he was a Prophet of God. So he Jesus Performed Miracles by The Will of God. For He Jesus can do nothing of his own
Jesus & his mother Mary both ate and Drank. And this naturally Resulted in God ?
