    I did this conversion on my 68 Camaro rear end that I put under a 1946 GMC. I bought two 1/4 Inch axle shims, put between backing plate and axle housing. To get correct the correct spacing for caliper bracket. Then bought two left side emergency brake cables for a blazer. I used a 4 wheel disc master cylinder and porp valve. Worked out pretty good.

    Once you get the thrust set on your pinion its a good idea to drive it and check it a few times. Usually the endplay gets looser so you have to pop the drive shaft off and snug the pinion nut . Not a bad idea to put a dial indicator on it and throw out that break in oil when you do this.

    @Tunning styx question.. Do you have to use backing plate if your deleting parking brake? Also if I keep parking brake will 2000 camaro backing plate work with my 99 c5 corvette calipers?

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před 3 lety

      The backing plate is where the calipers mount to so it does have to stay. Not sure about c5 calipers though, sorry

    Good job. Check mine too.. Caprice 1992 complete conversion kit with modern gm opel trw calipers with emergency brake and mercedes rear disk brakes. Plates are made from scratch by myself. All parts are domestic buying and new, except complete used rebuilded calipers from domestic partshop. More info on impalassforum in brakes category: 300mm rear disk brakes...

    Nice post but not clear on disc brake bolt on since not too much footage. 5/16" carrier bolt dude. Plus smaller drill bit to start holes in future...is a pilot hole. Hope this works for me too.

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před 4 lety

      Thanks, I ran the larger drill bit for a second to make sure the pilot hole would be centered when I went back to the smaller bit. This was my first video like this though so if you have any questions just ask!

      Yeah, the 98-02 firebird and 98-02 Camaro backing plates/calipers are the same and will be the same as what I used here

    Can I put the calibers facing the the front of car instead of the rear of the car to not run into the problem with the shocks

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před 2 lety

      nope, at least not on the g-body because they will hit the frame when the suspension compresses

  • @joemillion2372
    @joemillion2372 Před 3 lety

    That bracket that moved the shock over where did you get it and can i use coilover with it?

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před 3 lety

      So I made that one myself, Not sure who might make one offhand though unfortunately. Some people just drill new holes instead

    • @TheAkstewie
      @TheAkstewie Před 2 lety

      So you can get a coil of a bracket for the G body off of eBay. Or Rideteck sells the bracket as well that’s what I had to do when I installed my 10 bolt and relocated my shock with the disc brake conversion

  • @dorrencereid459
    @dorrencereid459 Před rokem

    Hello, im working on doing this conversion on my 84 monte. Why does the 4wd option not work for us. I can find a lot of the 4wd options but hard to find the 2wd 98- 04 s10 blazers.

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před rokem +2

      I think you're referring to the front spindles? I believe the difference is due to the lower ball joint mounting point and its taper on the 4wd spindles but would need to verify. The front upgrade to blazer spindles is probably honestly money better spent on something like a corvette brake upgrade

    Do you have part number for gbody brake line adapter to ls1 caliper?

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před 4 lety

      If you're using the LS1 brake caliper hoses you'll want to use any inverted flare to bubble flare fitting. I used Edelmann 271300

  • @TheAkstewie
    @TheAkstewie Před 2 lety

    What’s the part number for the bubble to flare fitting?

    Did you have too change the proportioning valve

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před 2 lety

      yup, I ran part number "SUM-760185". Pretty much bolts in, but can't remember if the lines needed new fittings though.
      drum brake proportioning valves will hold fluid pressure in the rear and cause the brakes to stick

  • @denoisysoldsbigredmachine7053

    Can you say if this swap move the tires out?

    • @tuningwithstyx
      @tuningwithstyx  Před 4 lety

      It shouldn't unless you didn't have brakes before. They would move the wheels out just as far as the drums did.
