Then, at 5:05, it passes by another unit also numbered 1001 and with message "125 Jahre Zache" at Wielandshohe. Finally, at 9:26, a unit #1002 and bike carrier #1982 stops at Marienplatz. Can someone kindly explain how two units can have the same number ( start, middle of the trip ) and end with a different unit number?
Maybe the introduction images of the video are not of the train that you actually ride at the start. Then at 6:30 there is a transition in the video where it might go back to the original. Possibly something went wrong with the recording and two video's were combined into one.
Technically no. A car transmission works the same way and turns a lot faster. The only velocityrestriction is needed when entering or leaving the rack.

Cuś pięknego, choć liczyłem na pętlę lub nawet na integrację małym fragmentem z siecią tramwajową (holowanie składu do np. zakładu naprawczego itd.), ale po planach torów widzę, że zupełnie wydzielone torowisko, a przed Marienplatz tylko zajezdnia na wprost.
To jest tramwaj z zębatką ze względu na ostry podjazd i zjazd. A wagony z zębatką nigdy szybko nie jeżdżą, gdyż w przypadku wykolejenia lub uszkodzenia zębatki mogły by zjechać gwałtownie na dół w sposób niekontrolowany.

I just noticed that tram with the bike rack .. that's really cool. You can take the bike up hill and then ride back down yourself.
Side fact: Its forbidden to put a bike on it while driving downhill because the driver would not see if it is about to fall down.

The line is fitted throughout with a rack and pinion system which is used for braking and traction.

Its a rack. The train has a gear connected to the rack and it allows the train to "climb" steeper grades.
