When operators would run out of fuel . I’d seen 4- 8 hours to re start . I rigged up 24 volt 6 to 8 pound electric fuel pump to prime also find leaks . After fuel trk loaded fuel tank 10: minutes engine running , also used Lincoln transfer pump 150 lb pressure connect to all test ports w/quick disconnects and one direction check valve. To prime oil pressure to engine . These worked great even on 16 - 645 and 710 EMDs and anything smaller . Regulated air to Lincoln pump less air pressure less oil pressure. I came up with this shortcut in 1975 . Thought I’d pass it on . I enjoy your projects .

Gotta love the sound of an old 2 stroke Detroit, I used to drive a Ford f800 wheel lift wrecker that had a 6v53 turbo and man she would scream. Came up six flags hill on I-20 in ga held 65 no problem while towing a 66 passenger school bus.
I saw this old beaut on marketplace a few months back, glad someone like you saved it!

That is one sweet dump truck, would love to own that. Has all my favorite things in it. Air brakes, a Detroit Diesel and is a dump truck. Your a lucky guy.
P.S. If anyone re- members the V-6 Cummins that was made in Shotts, Scotland, at high rev it sounded a little bit like a Detroit. I remember that from the last place I worked at, with the engine in a Michigan loader.

The 6V-53's were real screamers.My first experience was driving a Diamond- Reo back to a comp any yard after my friend and his brother serviced the truck at their garage.

I’ve been running a Clarke skidder with 3-53 Detroit power, it’s a darn good little engine.
I don't know why Here in Italy the two stroke diesel never came. ..now this fucking emissions limits had destroyed everything...but for me this engines are Simply fantastics,with all its good things and all its bad things ...like our IVECO 190-48

Old faithful hey ,How about giving it a pint of ATF right in the engine oil it'll clean the shellac built up over the years won't hurt a thing it's a detergent I've cleaned out many O lifter up on the old Fords I ran Cleveland's Modifieds ,460s for yrs you'd be surprised how fast it works basically same as Rislone additive .
Those jakes sound awesome. I wish my 6v53 had jakes. Seems like she’s going to be a good runner.
I had a pair of 68 F1800D6v53s tandem dumps. Only one had the air shutters. Only 2 air intake hole on right of grill. Had a guy from Lathem,n.y. rebuild them for me in the early 70s.

A lot of people don't know this most diesels will start off of WD-40 I do it all the time it works great
And it's a lot safer for the engine
Brake cleaner works too.
It works good on gas also

I always hated working on IHC anything, Loadstar, Fleetstar, Cargostar all a huge PIA.
how so? I run a fleet of loadstar and fleetstar dump trucks just because they are so easy to work on and no other truck I have had holds up.
I enjoy my Cargostar cabover, DT466. Easy to work on.

Next time you want to free off a clutch, don't jam it in gear. Start the engine in low gear and drive it on and off the gas with the clutch pedal pressed. That normally clears it and you are not risking your gear teeth.

If it a 550 v8 they idle on 4 then to 8 to run, a problem point and the idle thing was disabled a lot. They sold thousands in mixers and smaller trucks

I bought a classic Corvette with 34,000 miles on it when i took air filter catcher off had bird seed in the air filter
I knew it was going to run, for one... it's a 2 stroke Detroit... 2 it was trying last time it did cheech, so I knew it was going to fire up at anytime

You can always tell which motor is In the trucks. This one sounds like a Detroit. It's a V-8 l believe. What size is it?
