  • I show how to connect a video received to view on your smartphone!
    please note if you are wanting to use an easycap device to do the same, easy cap has a dedicated app on the play store that might be more suited than this method. theres also a lot of cheap easy cap clones out there that wont work on android!

    would be interested what the true latency is - you can just use a stopwatch and face the camera towards it and use another camera to see the difference between the screen and watch...

    I solved the Google Cardboard setup. It requires a PC in the setup but works very well and gives a latency free fpv in simulated 3D. It's pretty awesome. So you connect you Laser BGC receiver (or whatever capture device you choose) to the PC instead of directly to the phone. Then there is an $8 app called Trinus VR, originally designed to stream PC first person games to your phone to play with Google cardboard. It sends a fully adjustable side by side image to your phone (I'm using a Galaxy Note 4), via USB tethering which is latency free. It even sends head tracking data as controller data back to the PC at the same time. One can easily use this data to control a servo gimble, and again it's latency free. Enjoy!

      Mooria Devil No better or worse the capture device is inconsequential. The tricky part is getting a live stream, in side-by-side 3D, into the cell phone for use with a VR headset. I'm sure by now someone has come up with something better by now. I hope at least...

      Jake Rutkowski hey this should be an easy solution and require to replace original drone camera with one the phone can connect to but share no relationship with drone aprt from the fact it is attached, need to buff up radio system to reduce latency
      I think this is the better solution because it will reduce computational power needed to process images and allows the drone to focus only on flying. All is needed is long range (bluetooth?) camera (maybe gopro) and long range antenna on controller and drone.

    Thanks Andy for demonstrating this. I have wanted to feed video into my Mobile Android devices but ran into issues as my attempted solutions were overly complicated. This is a great KISS solution. I have used an EZCap device to take video from my goggles and overlay it on the HUD display of the APM Mission Planner on the PC. There is an experimental version on the Droid Planner software so I'll try this later today with an OTG adaptor.
    A great video for a wet and windy Sunday Morning.

    • @sputniksam
      @sputniksam Před 9 lety

      @AndyClayton
      I've used this feature on the PC version of Mission Planner. The software takes the video in from a USB device and then displays it in the HUD window with the virtual horizon and telemetry data overlaid. On the Android version, Droid Planner, there is an option to do something similar though I have yet to try this. When you select this option it warns you that it is experimental and to proceed at your own risk.

    This is totally GREAT. It verifies my common sense. I have a pair of Fat Shark Dominator V2 Goggles and they kind of...suck. The resolution is miserable, the optics are plastic. It's a joke. Our phone monitors have incredible, tremendous versatility, but I wasn't sure what the options were for getting from a video receiver to phone were.. This is a NATURAL. Your video is the first thing I came across in my "research" and is a great intro. LOL What cracks me up, is that with regular 2D goggles, it kind of seems like you could slide your phone into a little box, with the sole purpose being putting the phone in front of your face, having a comfortable fit on the face side, and keeping out the light.
    I know there are fancy 3D apps. for phones, and some dedicated Goggles, and while I haven't tried it, people should remember that our eyes are only a few inches apart, and the "3D" effect from our binocular vision is basically gone over a few yards. So going to a lot of trouble to have two cameras several inches apart on a drone, might be neat while maneuvering near close objects, in any kind of panoramic setting you won't notice. You are the greatest, this was great.

  • @Munky332

    I have a couple questions, my use won't be for FPV like you using, but in a different sense (for NV goggles)
    I have a 1/3" CCD camera, (or maybe i could use 2!?). my idea is to get the signal to the phone, but currently I do not have any way of doing that, as its a standard composite video cable from the camera.
    what would be the easiest/cheapest method to getting the video signal to the phone? I can deal with wires, but a wireless solution would be optimal, because I may mount the cameras to a scope on a rifle.
    i guess a sweet ass setup would be 2 cameras, 1 mounted to the goggles, 1 mounted to the rifle, with a hot-swap option? I don't need range, I need quality of video signal over everything else, and as small as a setup as possible.
    I have a Samsung Galaxy S4.
    also, if using the Google Cardboard goggles, is there a way to get the phone to split-screen the video image? or does it do it automatically? i'm unsure on wether or not the split screen would be better with google glass, or i'd be better off using the screens full pixel area. like i said, i'll be using this for night vision, by using a high quality E700 sony CCD camera with the IR filter removed.

    AndyRC hey bro, I'm wanting to shoot video with my phone and use a tablet as a preview monitor. Would that be possible with this method??? I see that I also need to get hold of a RX and TX aswell. Would I need to get 5.8ghz aswell!??

  • @aidanmco
    @aidanmco Před 8 lety

    Someone NEEDS to make an FPV Bluetooth camera that connects directly to your phone. Maybe it's even possible for $50?

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  Před 8 lety +2

      Bluetooth doesn't have enough range to do fpv on which is why we mostly have analogue

    Does this work for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge? I'm new to FPV and have gotten a phantom 2 drone with gimbal holding a hero 3 cam and i have also installed a fatshark 5,8 GHz antenna to transmitt video. I'm looking for something compact and not to expensive and then i thought about this because my phone has a nice screen.

    Thanks for sharing! So this is weird.. Im using the EasyCap on a Note 3...
    The EasyCap viewer works fine and loads up immediately. I cant seem to get the "UsbWebCam" app or "CameraFi" to detect the camera? Even on my tablet.
    Did you do anything special to the phone or change settings to be able to access the camera via the easycap??

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  Před 9 lety

      Ryan Dritlein not all easy caps devices work as a usb webcam so you are best using the easycap viewer then use azscreen recorder, check the video after this one, it shows you how to do it. and better result than usbwebcam in my opinion as theres no OSD and can change aspect ratio

(cheap quad, like f450/f550) and i will be a professional :P
      last question please, which one of these transmitters for this plan i must to buy? flysky fs-i6 / devo7 / devo7? or you can tell me another about 80 dolars, because my countrys customs limit 75 euro per/shopping :)

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  Před 9 lety

      matt butler resolution woulf be standard dev on your fpv screen 640 by 480 im yet to test this but yes you can record at same time, not sure what the latency would be like though

  • @guyinshirt_
    @guyinshirt_ Před 7 lety

    So since you said that the app automatically detects the resolution of the video signal and will not let you deviate from it, does that mean using a higher megapixel camera will enhance the video resolution coming through to the app?

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  Před 7 lety

      it depends really because fpv transmittion is always in SD so regardless of the camera it might not look any better
