This song always killed me as a kid, because I couldn't help but get a kick out of the lead singer just shaking his hair all over his face. I never knew the name of the group. I knew they were a different group had a similar sound to groups like Midnight Star. I find out that the Bar-Kays were an older group that my mom of course knew about though I never had the chance of asking. All I could think of at that time, is that whatever the popular "sound" was of the 80's dance era many copied it. But as an old friend said, if you're gonna copy someone then you copy the best. Which is why this era of the music industry was one of the best times for music. Mainly, because the parents of that time were able to enjoy some of the newer pieces before they handed the torch their children.

It was especially great to meet Larry Dodson and James Alexander, the only original left that didn't die in the Crash with Otis Redding. He was in Memphis Tennessee in the studio, got a autographed pair of Michael (Buck Board) Smiths autographed sticks. And being a drummer now for 41 years and can play all of their songs it means a lot.

what an amazing history; the original bar kays were the band for the great otis reading and unfortunately most of them passed away in the tragic plane wreck. what a fun time and a fun group. party and dancing.

How in the hell have I never seen this video? I grew up in the 80's w/ MTV & watching 'Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo' on HBO@ my g-ma's. And I was seriously obsessed. I just bought 'Breakin', so feeling all nostalgic. Didn't know "Ozone" passed away. Breaks my heart 💔. My dusty ass is breakin' out some moves for the man!

could not agree with you more time and this is coming from a OG we're back in the day they would play this song at 145am along with No Parking On The Dance Floor and then probably mostly finish it off with the Dazz Band Let It Whip but that was back in the day yeah we had so much fun dancing and pretty much in the neighborhood everybody know each other in a couple 3-4 bars that we would go to and pretty much and if you were dancing with a b**** at 1:50 a.m. you were pretty much getting some pussy I don't know how it is nowadays but I ain't been to a club and for ever but man back then it was the good old days nowadays m************ are shooting and stabbing and who knows what the f*** you b****** guy ship back in the day you got the crabs you got some damn lotion and you were good to go now they got this f****** herpes and HIV and syphilis man bro that's it's off the chain and if I do pick up a bedside double wrap that mother f***** don't believe it or not most of them b****** I hook up with I just tell him to give me a f****** handjob and send them on their way

+Tom Parkes hey Tom it's John getting back to your brother I don't know what state you're from but back in the day drinking age used to be 18 and I was a pretty big kid and we used to get into the bars when we were 16 the only thing we back then was smoke a little weed and f****** get drunk and our main priority was to get pussy LOL still the same way and like I said in my other message there's way too much s*** out there bro as far as STDs and you know another thing it was nice about back in the day what is if you dated somebody they pretty much stayed true to her man nowadays you turn your back and these b****** are f****** two or three your buddies at once so as far as hooking up with somebody seriously and going to happen brother I just basically hit that s*** and keep moving yeah bro I guess if me and you ever met we probably just have a quick little cocktail and reminisce about the good old days you know what I'm saying brother but now that I know that you're on this page although I'll definitely be hitting you up right about now I got to take my dog for a quick walk and I'm calling you today but your brother like I said I know you're on this page and I can tell you're a pretty cool cat I'll definitely hit you up so you have a blessed day and peace out brother

When I was eleven, my dance class did a routine to this song for our annual recital, complete with breakdancing moves by a select few of us. Man, this takes me back to those days, but only in my mind. At my age, I'd probably wind up in traction if I tried to bust a move now! Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

This song is by far the best of the three though. Should have crossed over more, along with Sexomatic, the 2nd single. That and "Can I" by Cashmere would have gone over well with mostly-white pop radio if they'd just given it a chance.
