    Really enjoyable video, great job! What I do when splitting ball joints is put the nut back on level with the end of the stud, then crack the joint- can’t explode that way….

      Thank you! I did that on the passenger side (before filming the driver’s side), and aside from the control arm swinging freely and looking worse, it seemed all the same to me. I was not anywhere near close enough to risk injury.

    The Upper Control Arm bushings on the E24/E28 are common wear points. I've read stories of them lasting only a few thousand km in some cases. Keep an eye on yours, especially considering they're non-OEM.
    As a future upgrade, consider either the Meyle HD (Heavy Duty) bushings or the MooseHead Engineering UCABs which will apparently last longer than the car will.

    15:15 if you guys have air compressor and a square meter of free space on the floor get media blasting cabinet, the cheapest one will do. Some rough grit like copper slag is the best to remove baked in rust. For some reason rust that was subject to high temperature just polishes with wire wheel.

    Hi Marie, been there done that I tell you, but being from Sweden I really envy your rust free car, damn I would save 1000 hours of labour. 😅
    Anyway, nice work both with the car and the videos ! (Lizard @ 15:55 min ? 😏)
    I've got a question, where in the US would you look for parts for the rear lights ? (Here in Sweden, and Europe it's really hard to find used good parts.)
    Also a tip, I saw an earlier video, where the speedo were broken, I my car that was due to corrosion inside the instrument cluster.
    The Nicd memory (Si) batteries tend to leak and they cause the corrosion on the circuit boards.

    • @mariemotors
      @mariemotors  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! I definitely take the rust-free condition of this car for granted sometimes, but am zapped back to reality whenever I find a seized/rusted bolt on another car. And yes, that is our little lizard friend making an appearance. We have a 3-legged one who monitors the progress of the E24 project in the garage, I’ll have to include her in a future video.
      I’m not sure where to find parts for the rear lights. A few videos ago I actually had to repair the broken lens of the rear tails with a plastic welder because I didn’t want to start hunting for parts. Normally the first place I check is eBay whenever I’m in need of something odd.
      And I am getting to the instrument cluster soon, but your thoughts on the culprit are likely correct. Hopefully will be a straightforward fix. Maybe I’ll even get to do some soldering!
