    RIP John Motson. His commentary for Sharp's derby winner will live on forever. Iconic in our clubs history.

    Graham Sharpe was always a thorn in our side for the bitter blues in the 1980s... Great goal though... And in many ways... That goal in this win against the best team in Europe at that time won Everton the title in 1984-85

      The 14 point gap we won the title by meant this win certainly didn't win us the title. It did start a good run though, but the key victory was against Spurs in the run in.

    Absolutely love it. I was only 4yo at the time but I am now binge watching all MOTD from when I was a kid 😂 muddy pitches, hard tackles and a league full of characters both on the field and in the dugouts. What amazes me the most is the pitches in December and January. The football played is superb considering.

    That was such a legendary goal by Sharp, controlled with his left before the magnificent hit with the right. The best goal of that or any season. Perfection. Sharp knew Grobelaar was (or would be) off his line so the fact that we was isn't really relevant - you can only beat what's in front of you. Of course Big Nev would've saved it - LOL!

      @@skintslots Everton were by a longshot the best in England and would have had more than a shot at the European cup. Shame how the Liverpool hooligans cost english football so dearly and it was a very unfair rule,Liverpool as the cause should have been banned not every other club.

    • @skintslots
      @skintslots Před 3 lety

      @@oliver69cork46 It was 40 years ago and despite Liverpool serving a longer ban than anybody else they still managed eventually to win Cups and qualify for Europe again while Everton went down the pan because the manager and players left due to Everton being a selling club. As for the hooligans,yes there were hooligans within Liverpool's support,no doubt, but the whole scenario around that game left nobody blameless. I know this because I have friends and family who went to the game. Good luck with Ancelotti because he's the best manager Everton have ever had and you need to look forward to his time in charge as if he can't give you success,which he very well might do,nobody will.

    • @oliver69cork46
      @oliver69cork46 Před 3 lety

      @@skintslots thanks for your reply. The hooliganism that time was a sickness in the sport, any other sport similarly popular would also have had it. Combat 18 and other groups destroyed football for a period but thankfully it's gone except in certain countries where's there's vicious rivalry and historical hate. Liverpool, Leeds,Millwall amongst others were cursed with these hooligans. Not a fan of Everton but as a young lad of 10 at the time I admired their success and it was a change from man utd,Liverpool etc. They did go down the pan,but where? Losing kendal to bilbao? Selling gray who was in top form(never same after)?even selling Lineker to Barcelona? Everton became mediocre to even poor making average signings and changing managers. Can ancelotti change this,he's done well so far. Liverpool are a giants club,even in their worst times they've been always near.
