I feel like the New Republic should have mixed the Local PDF Funding tactic for territorial defense with a comparatively small GAR inspired federal army (about the same size but maybe with conscripts to reduce cost and for ethical reasons, yes I know I give Tarkin shit for it, but it actually works in this case). The PDFs handle %90 of issues in their sector and serve as a holding force when the federal army needs to be called in, so said FA can focus on a swift and decisive offense
Also, the PDF fleets are produced mostly centrally (in hubs stationed strategically throughout the Republic) in order to take advantage of mass production and standardisation, thus lowering unit cost while improving performance.
Military academies are also liberally spread out to improve basic training levels (and incidently instil a pro Republic viewpoint).
So instead of having to scrap together a defence fleet and source second rate combat ships from wherever, local planetary forces can order X-wings from the factory along with whatever other ships, ground weaponry and equipment would be appropriate for their situation. The local manufacturing hub could also modify the equipment for species in their particular region.
[How a Wookie fits in an X-Wing is an issue, prehaps they subcontract for pilots or use gunships instead?].
That also has the advantage of should a serious problem arise, when a fast response fleet arrives from a sector hub local PDF forces can integrate with it and vice versa.
Basically, like NATO.
Independent national Militaries that can work together seamlessly and take advantage of quality of scale when making defence acquisitions.
And should a serious war break out, they are ready for a large American force to slot right in.
The big difference is the New Republic should subsidise PDF's for certain territories.
A poor planet/system/region that can't afford what it _needs_ gets it's PDF equipment at a discount or even assigned to it - along with some Republic supervisors however, to help with running the PDF - military advisors.
That can be justified to richer planet's by pointing out that if conditions are allowed to deteriorate in poorer regions, it could become a threat to them eventually.
Failed States make great pirate havens.
@@casbot71 Holy shit, and I thought I thought it through, 😂 well said
Create defense fleets for patrols and train planetary defense forces that can be organized for a unified mobilization. Hire mandalorians and or bounty hunters as both trainers and mercenaries. Essentially a force of spec ops and force multipliers to prepare. Set up bases on mostly remote and uninhabited worlds.
That’s what I would’ve done if I was managing the new republic by the time the First Order tries to make a move.
They should have bent the knee and let the empire handle it.
I actually think many systems/sectors would demand that defense forces mainly belonged to them, not the New Republic, especially the alien races, as they suffered the most under the Empire’s central control
With all the articulating arms I wonder if they can be reprogrammed for vehicle maintenance, I could definitely use a couple around my shop.
10:09 This reminds me of a scene from the Star Trek: Voyager episode “The Voyager Conspiracy”. When Seven of Nine, a former Borg Drone, reconfigures her regeneration (sleeping) alcove to download status reports to her brain while she’s regenerating, her brain isn't able to handle all the information. At the end of the episode, when another person asks her why she’s disassembling the alcove, she replies, “The alcove functioned within expected parameters. Unfortunately, I did not.”
I’d like to learn more about the history of rebel alliance intelligence network. From Fulcrum to the dedicated branch that relied on forces like Magna Tolvan’s Misericode.
The show Andor touches on it a little bit so if you haven’t checked it out, definitely watch it
@@MinhVu-yz5rr I have and it’s a good show, but I was hoping we’d get a deeper look at Luthen’s interaction with the various rebel cells out there. Instead we only got to meet two: The Aldhani cell and Gerrera’s Partisans.
@@neofulcrum5013 well, if Tony Gilroy does stay with Lucasfilm then maybe we’ll get more
Interesting info on the creation of the Viper Droid as well as some related backstories. There is something about the Viper Droid on Hoth that needs to be addressed. It is true that a Viper Droid landed on Hoth like a meteorite; the droid emerging is the very first image we get on the planet's surface before the scene cuts to Luke mounted on his Tantan. Luke spots a meteorite hitting near him, but it is not necessarily the probe droid unless the probe droid emerged after Luke was taken by the wampa. Either way, at that point it is irrelevant, Luke could not have reported the probe droid because he never even saw the droid. The Viper Droid was not discovered until after Luke had been rescued. The first indication that the droid was outside the base was due (likely) to the fact that the droid had found the generator and was transmitting images/location. Recall the film, Princess Leia is informed by Rebel Command, "Princess, we have a visitor." And at that point the Rebels still don't know what's out there. Another report comes in. "It's metal." Leia responds, "Then it can't be one of those creatures." (referring to a wampa)
Next suggestion comes from Solo, "It could be a speeder. One of ours." Then a controller calls out, "Wait! There's something very faint coming through." Then we hear a robotic chattering/beeping to which C-3PO informs everyone that the code is not used by the Alliance and suggests it's an Imperial code. That's when Han and Chewy go out to get a closer look. After the encounter: -Solo: "I'm afraid there's not much left."
Leia: "What was it?"
Solo: "Droid of some kind. I didn't hit it that hard, it must have had a self-destruct."
Leia: "An imperial probe droid."
Solo: "It's a good bet the Empire knows we're here."
General Reiken: "We better start the evacuation."
Cut to Death Squadron 😏😮💨😜
Tell us you watch Star Wars religiously, without telling us you watch it religiously.
@@Talon1124 😄 pretty much
In another version, yoda actually destroyed the probe droid and used one of its arms as a stirring tool.
You mean after he tried to eat the thing first?
Another version? You mean like an older, pre-Disney Legends story?
curious. couldnt they just mass send vipers to unknown regions and track which ones sent back signals to discover new lanes? always been one of my gripes.
How do we know they didn't? The First Order had to have some way of knowing where to go.
That is basically what they did. The Empire kept those lanes secret, but because they shifted so frequently, only a handful that were deemed useful were maintained.
In the Star Wars Galaxies MMO pre-NGE, you use these probe droids as a part of the Bounty Hunter profession to find targets on other planets.
Jar jar binks the master Palpatine the apprentice...😂😂...hilarious Allen..👍🏽
Legends retcon. The probots were autonomous units. You can hear the droid transmit “I’ve found the base” before it retracts its antenna and move in for a closer look.
Happy new year gen tech thatnks.
Great vid GenTech, thank you for the upload. Merry Christmas all!
Good Subject Matter, I was always wondering about those Viper Droids !!! Thanks Allan !!!
More videos bro, missing you around. Btw JarjarBinks for sith lord. All cannon will make sense.😊
Allen, This why you are "THE GOAT " I TRULY APPRECIATE THE DETAILS YOU PUT INTO EACH AND EVERY VIDEO YOU DO PEACE OUT MY MAN...😉😉😉😉
Thanks for making this video. I like hearing about the droids and Star Wars lore in these videos.
Allen, thank you for all the hard you put into these videos. 🤠
Hey Alan, I liked the video. And I wanted to say thanks for another year of great content and I can't wait for more. Merry Christmas to you and your family🎁☃️🎄
Merry Xmas!!
It's weird how in Star Wars planets are small enough that you can send one probe droid to check on it's entire surface for rebels, what if it landed on the opposite side? Same thing applies to Luke landing on Dagobah.
Edit: Lots of interesting plausible explanations in these replies, I'm gonna adopt them all into my headcanon, thank you❤️
Because it's a story, not reality.
Same with the droids in ANH, landing within a few miles of Obi Wan
I mean the droids could just have extremely powerful sensors for detecting "anomalous" energy signatures (based off of what is known about the planet), also do some broad image scanning (like LiDAR), and have the footage it takes be a small part of what intelligence it sends back. The droids were a broad generalized sweep, and thenI imagine the next step would usually be to do a more thorough investigation of any planet/system that had any kind of anomaly. The only reason the Empire went after Hoth so quickly was because Vader sensed that it was where the Rebels were hiding. I don't think they expected the droids to photograph every square cm of a planet.
I’m guessing the probe droids could do orbital scans, so the droid on Hoth would have detected the energy signature of the base from space then landed close.
Luke was guided by The Force.
The Dark Side of the Force would lead the probes to find what they were looking for, of course. 🤣
25 seconds is crazy
Sweet I'm so early no adds in the beginning just awesome Allen😂😂
I LOVE the facpov books. They are so intriguing
The Viper Probe Droids are cool, but my favorite is the interrogation droid Dr. Ball, MD..
We have new movies, shows and games that take place between Episode 3 and 4 but I'd love to see some stuff between episode 4 and 6, post destruction of the first Death Star but before the destruction of the second one.
I read that story and I agree with you👍
A good idea indeed
The first on screen battle Droid or at least a Droid with a blaster
Allan, so many snide comments in the first 2 minutes. You're on fire dude! Well done.
Star wars has like 3 levels of lore, the first is what you see in the films taking in what's said and what's happening but not really diving in deeper into the why of certain things. the second is watching the films and all the animated series and tv series and generally getting a better idea of what's happened inbetween films and seasons (bad batch meeting Hera and Kanan to show their starts for example) this second part is where I sit while just teetering into part 3. Part 3 of lore is all the books, comics, director interviews, behind the scenes, basically anything that is star wars related that's considered cannon. CZcamsrs like this channel help people in part 2 to see a bit more into part 3 and understand better whats happening, why the empire was often so bad at what it did (not deploying TIE's instantly with a suspicious ship inspection) and hell even going as small as telling me that these probes were called viper droids/probes
and I love it, learning about all the jedi masters that you see once in a film or episode, learning about how early on the rebellion actually began, what happened to clones after the rise of the empire, I love it! It just shows how much thought and effort has gone into this universe and I can't really think of anything else that has this much to it
I wonder where this strategy is relevant to today :) just a thought
Jar jar binks used Palpatine as a puppet - make my day! xD
Hey Alan do you think there was a second droid on Hoth?
Vader is awesome
I would prefer the ID-9 Seekers as a personal droid if I were an Imperial
Happy Life Day Bro.
The sequence at 0:09 with what look like 'classic' Rebel troops (or rather the crew of the Tantive IV)--I've never seen that shot before. Where is it from?
If you can make a speaker system out of a warped loop of wood or cardboard and an electromagnet or series, array of, can you also make a speaker system out of concrete, in place of wood, or too conductive?
Gotta love security
🎉wow
How'd it work out for the Empire?
👏👏👏
Vader had a special squadron that couldn’t hear? Is the deaf squadron cannon or legends?
The swarm, the swarm, the swarm is coming.
I'm so glad you are fighting the misinformation that Sheev was the one behind all of this and finally outing Darth JarJar for the crook he truly is.
Hind sight being 20/20. Viper droid deployment was poor. 1 recon droid/(planet or moon) was inefficient according to the "blueprints" in some sourcebook. Being slow but stealthy, it would probably take sometime to survey a world. Proper and timely surveillance would have a mother orbital stealth droid and a litter of Viper droids with drop pods. Thankfully, the Empire's superiority complex clouds common sense thinking. Merry Christmas, Alan. Thanks for making these wonderfully fun segments.
I wonder if that happened to Luke and yoda emperor strikes back?
Am I the only one who is disappointed that they never bring any of the Star Wars clips from robot chicken.
I guess “technological terrors” weren’t insignificant to the power of the Force. Vader needed the help of a shitload of probots to get the job done.
Darth Vader: The Galaxy's Ultimate Jealous Boyfriend
Also, Pebble Speaker Squad
Hey now!
You know, battletech and 40k take a grimmer if far more realistic view on interstellar government. Neo feudalism kinda does make sense. Or at least a truly federated government. Trying to centrally legislate to thousands of inhabited worlds and dozens of sentient peoples is laughable. In BattleTech you have the successor states and dozens of periphery states. Quality of life varies wildly. As for 40k as grim as the galaxy can be simple reality is one on a civilized world could live their entire life never facing the horrors of the greater galaxy. You might even have democratic elections or in the case of a feudal, planetary, lord governor they are not all despots. My point is democracy functions best in a homogenized society. The wilder the variety of those you intend to govern the messier and less efficient th3 government will be.
I’m going to start a petition to bring back Australian Allen because it’s been forever
So this female intelligence officer discovered both the base on Hoth AND Yoda and Luke on Dagobah?! F**K!!! With winning odds like that she needs to go to Vegas. I mean think of it, what ARE the odds that out of thousands upon thousands of droids out there and all the operators looking at the their feeds this one female would get to see the two most important images?
And I don't buy the idea that they can take control of a droid either. I mean these things are hundreds, thousands of light years away .... how the hell could an operator control one over that distant?! It would take hours at the minimum for an order to be obeyed by the droid.
Well holonet is hyperspace communications so it might be possible . But you do bring up a point most people don’t think about. Intergalactic communications is expensive and difficult
What was the name of the female imperial intelligence officer again?
The empire rulz
Disney getting free marketing and advertising from YT: zzz

Day 327 (please make this my Christmas gift for when i return from my no internet holiday so i cant keep doing counter 😔)
right here i go again
PLEASE DO MORE TACTICS VIDEOS AND STRUCTURES LIKE THE CIS NAVY STRUCTURE AND RANKS
Bloody Empire.
“One size fit’s all”, means “universal fit”. In ALL cases, universal means “one size fits NONE”!
never thought i would hear the brand in a yorkshire/ lancs accent “bulgary” lol
This guy makes more sense than most I've known. Why aren't there more of him instead of more of these people like idiots in office😮😢😊😅🙄
What if those unnatural structures on an unhinged planet would be like Mars used to have a civilization
And finding Hoth was delayed by weeks thanks to Chelli Lona Aphra
If a small star destroyer formation controls 100,000 probe droids. Imagine just how many pride droids were in the imperial service. And that’s just 1 type of droid. A lot of people forget just how fucking big the empires military was. 70.5 million works, thousands of sectors. 10’s if quintillions of beings. People like to say it is u realistic cause logistics would be a night mare. But they managed it just how earth country is manage their militaries
just on a much larger scale
I love these droids! An overlooked tool indeed -- so useful! In my fanfics, the Empire of the Hand makes very extensive use of them. I have one, nicknamed "Probius" who finds just what the EotH need to take its revenge on the Noghri for murdering their Grand Admiral. Later, Probius becomes Thrawn's clone's personal droid, helping him to persuade Admiral Ackbar himself to the true danger the Yuuzhan Vong pose, long before their invasion. When the Far Outsiders do eventually attack, they have not one but two of the greatest military minds in the Galaxy to deal with, and their combined Imperial/Mon Calamari fleet.
Evil is as evil does.😮😢
hello there
WAR OF THE WORLDS and Zero Dark Thirty.
TIL it actually has a name besides "probe droid".
Umm the 100th commenter after 2 days. So my question is why no grocery stores in starwars
Disney should be paying you
The republic and empire both had the same impossible task: impose order on a galactic scale.
IMHO I don't believe that a galactic scale government is even a good idea. Trying to protect the rights and parcel out the responsibilities to such an unthinkably massive amount of people and territory. I think smaller regional powers would be better on the whole.
Some people have told me that having multiple Sovereign nations like that will Only increase war and thus the republic is needed. Nevermind that this doesn't actually work, as shown in a lot of star wars media (it's in the name) it ignores a very clear fact: that just because there is "less war" doesn't mean there's less suffering. Exploration, marginalization, and more all still happen.
The outer rim isn't poor because a lack of resources, it's poor because everything is shipped off to the core to fuel their extravagance, and little is reinvested into the communities that actually gather these resources. And since infrastructure is poor, there's a lot of gaps in law and order... Hence outlaws, criminals, and the like thrive.
who are you looking at to your left.
Why don't the Jedi have more engineers!??
You know, the empire would’ve been a more efficient method of government if Palps didn’t operate the way he did and you know… listened to Thrawn more 😅
Not really. The biggest problem with the Empire's government was the massive overemphasis of the military to the atrophy of everything else. Thrawn, for all his skill in military matters, wouldn't have done much.
@@alexspain9103 You have zero clue what your talking about and it shows. Thrawn would of easily brought the entire galaxy under the empire's control if idiots like Tarkin didn't exist, he wanted to use the resources for the death star to build massive amounts of lancers, battle stations of much smaller scale filled with TIE defenders and other smaller task forces. He would of never let the Empire waste resources and talent like Tarkin and Palpatine, I fully belive if Thrawn even had 1/10 of the empire's resources under his control and he would of stomped the rebels into the ground before they even could rally together.
@@SasoriZert That's exactly the problem. Whether your military spending is on the Death Star or a billion TIE fighters it doesn't change the fact that half your population is starving and every other sector of your economy is on the verge of collapse. People can't eat bullets, they can't get an education from warships, you can't ship construction materials on a TIE fighter and if all your conscript age youth are in the army then no one will be left to build houses.
Running a successful state is a hell of a lot more than just having a non-wasteful military.
Edit: And I would like to clarify that I have read the Thrawn trilogy at least five times.
@alexspain9103 thats the thing. Thrawn ran more on inspiration and loyalty than fear. If he was in charge he would have rallied the people behind him. Legends touched on that with the empire of the hand. The people were fanatically loyal to thrawn
@@angelhare8374 Exactly my point Thrawn isn't a one trick pony this man can run lead troops on a galactic scale and run the territory with better care then most government ever could with his meager resources give this man even half of the empire's output he'd have the Empire so loyal and happy they would never rebel.
Hey Alan! You always end with declaring your self for the republic for democracy. What to you think about the state of the north American democratic Republic?
There's 3 kinds of star's cannon and non cannon then there's mockery of starwars space balls is more of a star wars movie then Disney's mockery of starwars with a joke of a sequel k!lling off Luke Skywalker and han solo
Did you realize the vong should actually have a series in star wars.... but no!!!! To brutal for disney........😡🤬
I came for the Wars of Stars,,, I stay for the crypto scammers..
