Hey all, yes mega and I can only confirm that. I was in Indonesia on Gili Air for a few weeks and will also emigrate there for the next 4-5 years. I had lost my complete credit card and crypto card case including cash, which is 2 months wages for the locals there, 2 times. Both times this case went through several hands until it ended up back with me and it contained EVERYTHING, really EVERYTHING. I cried out of respect for the great, unbelievably great people there. Wow!!! When we were on Gili T in 2013, my buddy's iPhone was left in our air bnb. The caretakers worked together with a local Cafe, and a bunch of other locals and got it to us in Uluwatu!!! Some of the kindest people I've met in the world were on Bali ❤
I had a similar experience in Pattaya Thailand back when I was in the Navy. I left my bag at an outdoor bar. I went back a few hours later and not only did she recognize me, but she adamantly refused to take a tip for doing so. There was probably $2000 worth of camera gear and CASH, all of which was still there.
So did scold me for being careless. I took the scolding. I deserved it. I ordered another drink and way over tipped her for it when she wasn't looking. ;)

Crazy how this changed. I was there in 1994 and on these Island where nearly nothing. We had to pay fishermen to ferry us to the Gilis. I´m happy that the fishermen stoped dynamitefishing, cause they where near to destroy the corals. The only real Restaurant on Gili T was a crazy italian dude who build a restaunt that looked like pirate boat. Is it still there?

I lived in Gili T in 2021 when the island was absolutely empty and LOVED it! I am planning my next trip now but I’m nervous that it wont be as relaxing as it was in 2021 lol I guess it’s good to have both experiences either way. Great vlog!!

Just stay somewhere north or west on the island, quiet part (allso from mosque) roads are a bit bad though....
But honestly the only crowded part is the 200m on the eastern boulevard/harbour/nightmarket 😅
Been to gili T now 3x and 4th time next month :) allways have loved the place, except the busy harbour.
If coming from lombok the public boat or private taxiboat could be worth it to avoid the main hassle/chaos of the harbourpier
I agree I visited Nusa lembognan and Bali in 2014 was great not over populated like now x
I lived in Gili T in 94/95, for about six months, and to see the development it has gone through is quite shocking, but that´s the way it is in Asia, moving fast.

@@CrosbyGraceTravels yes! I left my entire (small )camera bag hanging on a chair at an outdoor cafe...went back an hour or so later and it was still hanging there!!! Whew!

I had the same experience trying to leave Gili Air, the harbour master closed down the harbour as the sea back to Bali was too rough, but they paid for me to get a local boat to Lombok, then a bus to the ferry port to Padang Bai then a free ride to Kuta, took all day but was all part of the original ticket back to Bali so did not need to pay anything extra.
When I didn't know that your GoPro was found again while watching this video, I immediately thought that if it was found by a local person it would have to be kept so that the owner could take it back. But it's a different story if the one who finds it is another tourist, it must be gone. Because they definitely check the consumer's table when they have just left it, if there are items left behind they must be saved, if a new customer sits directly in that place then the items left behind can be immediately put in the new customer's pocket or bag, so the employees will not know about it

Glad you enjoyed there , everything looks normal until bad weather , just make sure to plan your trip on good season and not much crowded season, hope fully weather will say yes 😅😊 and I think the island (Gili's) is a countryside theme island beside only a few luxury resort and hotel there at least , greeting from Indonesia, 🇺🇸 🤝🏼 🇮🇩

This makes me think of me describing Ko Phi Phi to my uncle who went there in the 70s. At that time it was deserted and a true paradise. I actually loved the overdeveloped Phi Phi that I visited in early 2000s, but he was aghast at my descriptions of the raucous nightlife.
I went to the Gilis at that time and they were largely empty with just a few bungalow operations and just the very beginnings of flashpacker style accommodation appearing. I'd hazard a guess that there were no more than a couple of hundred tourists there at the time. Going back to Bali this winter for first time in 20 years so might have to check this out.

Been to the 3 Gilis when I did a day trip from Bali and then from Lombok. I think they were good but I really liked the Secret Gilis off SW Lombok better

My small bag with all my jewellery fell out at a cafe in Marrakech. The waitress ran after me through the Medina asking locals to point out where I went and tracked me down to hand it back.

Great video! We are going to gili T for a month. I prefer chill like gili meno but there were better accommodation options for our fam on gili t. We are on a quiet back road so im hoping it will still be tranquil with lots of eating out options for the month 👌Maybe I should leave more than 1 night stay in Lombok before our flight out of Indonesia next day…in case we can’t get a boat bk the day we plan 🤔😂 will watch for your next vid.

If youre flying in from Lombok, try staying in Lumi Hotel in Gili Trawangan. Theyll pick you up for free from the airport, free vip private 15min speedboat to gili trawangan , you skip the long lines, free horse carriage ride to the hotel, and the same back to the airport going back.

Way Back Before pandemic. Gili T Is party island. Gili Air si mixed Party island and quiet vibe with so much To do. Gili meno Is so Called honey moon island Before because of its quietness. I choose Gili Air, coz bec many activities To do. So many Russians 😅 stuck got in Love with locals.

Sorry, but Lombok is a different island from Bali. Bali is Bali and Lombok and Gili is in the West Nusa Tenggara
@@eupphemia Yes, after Bali I went to the Gilis then Lombok. Was supposed to go back to Bali from Senggigi but went to South Lombok instead. It was like Bali 20 years ago, loved it! Next time will skip Bali and go straight to Lombok.

As you said it's like Bali 20 years ago, not that much crowd, much cheaper and most importantly still feels like Indonesia instead of over development. Thing is travellers/digital nomads nowadays, is less about appreciating and experiencing local cultures, but more towards convenience, content and hype at any location

Dear Grace, if you were to spend a couple weeks in the Gili Islands in the future which island would you choose to stay on when it comes to great food, decent accommodations with A/C and possibly a small fridge or access to a fridge to store drinks and water, a great beach with clear and calm water at high tide, and wonderful snorkeling excursions? I'm not a party all night person so I think Gili T wouldn't be the best choice for me. I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on this when you have a moment. It sounds like Gili Meno has the best snorkeling after watching this vlog, but excursions to Gili Meno from Gili Air seem very affordable and easy to book. No worries on the Bali Belly, at least I hope so! I always travel with a decent amount of Ciprofloxacin in Mexico, but when reading up on the best antibiotics to take to Southeast Asia it seems that Azithromycin might be a better choice for an antibiotic. What is your opinion? I know you have often suffered from painful stomach issues while traveling and I have much empathy for you (I've also suffered with the exact same thing). Not sure why, but I guess some have a stronger gut and immune system than others do. My significant other has never had Bali Belly/Montezuma's Revenge when we've visited Mexico, but I get it every single time I've visited Mexico over the past 12 years.
