Keeping Brandon Ingram is an option for New Orleans Pelicans but it could make the rotation awkward

  • There's been no trade for Brandon Ingram yet so what would it look like if he stayed on the New Orleans Pelicans. Jake Madison looks at what type of extension Ingram would need to sign to stay on the Pels, plus how would the rotation look with him and Zion Williamson alongside Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum? Does Trey Murphy III or Herb Jones still start? Is there a way to a viable starting center?

This might sound bold, but i think the best starting 5 would be .... Missi, Zion, Bi, Herb, and Murray. ... The reason why i think this is the best starting 5 is because Zion, BI, and Murray are going to eat up most of the scoring time, with Missi protecting the rim and Herb guarding the best player. Murray and BI can both shoot 3 point shots, but they can also score in other ways, and Zion can still do his one move. Trade CJ to clear up some money, off the bench is Jose, TM3, Hawkins, a vet center, and Ryan. Its fine that most of the better 3 point shooters are in the second unit, they will all still get good minutes, but the starting 5 has enough fire power to make up for it.

That’s the most unbiased comment I’ve seen. I think the funniest part is they keep saying that Brandon “wants” $50m and use it as an argument to trade him away. But I never read a single article saying that he “wants” such an amount, it’s only the largest amount he’s able to get and all I’ve read is he’s willing to work on a deal that’ll work for both sides, meaning he’s ok to take a paycut. And then they will say he is in Trey’s way. Dude I love Trey but he’s a role player. He can’t even create his own shots let alone creating for others. If he’s the first option he will look even worse than Brandon in the Thunder series even if he’s fully healthy. You would be dumb if you trade Brandon away because you want to pay Trey big money

@pierceliu9914 trey isn't what they think he is. Not yet. His ball handling is very very sub par. He can finish at the rim, he can chuck 30 footers sure. But when he gets the defensive attention that a zion or bi gets his impact is gonna plummet. He's already the streakiest shooter we have. He has more weeks of consecutive games where he goes 1 for 7 from 3 than he does where he'll get hot and go 6 for 8 or 7 for 10 from 3. Hes either cold or hot. There's no middle. He's a catch and shoot threat. Period. Truthfully i think hawkins potential as a scorer is much higher .. why ? He's already shown he can score off the dribble. Pull up. Off screens. Catch and shoot. Drive to the rim. Drive left pull up. Drive right pull up. Step back. He already has all that. I don't think I've ever seen trey ever put it on the floor dribble and create a jump shot that wasn't a step back heave from 35 feet. Your right too.... it's not public knowledge anywhere that bi is demanding 50 mill. Ppl are using that bs as a reason to trade him when in all honesty of ALL the guys we have he's probably the LAST one who'd approach his contract situation with that attitude

But should we be willing to bet arguably our most skilled player on it ? Idk man . I personally think cj is the biggest issue with the offensive identity of this team. He plays in tunnell vision mode all game long. Doesn't play a lick of defense. Doesn't and HASNT played well in ANY play in or playoff games . They say his vet leadership is reason to keep him. To be a voice for the younger guys. Ok , how are the younger players supposed to follow your example and listen to you when in every must win game or must win scenario you flat out suck. All this Ingram trade talk is foolish, we basically have a big four and great pieces on the bench to mix and match. Nba is about exploiting match ups every night. Sometimes you run into teams who can't be exploited as much. Once we added Murray we became a team that can now collapse the defense aside from point Zion. Zion is a great one on one and do is Ingram. Now throw in Murray and defenses can't cheat anymore. Would it be great to have a scoring center? Yes but plenty of championship teams have done it with out one. 96 bulls, 2004 pistons, mavs with Tyson Chandler. You just need really great players at other positions which is what we have. Stop trying to force a center on this team, let the big four go to work and earn their money. As kyrie proved, talent always rises to the top. Ingram is only 27 and is in his prime. But Z, BI, Murray, CJ, Trey/Herb. is a crazy starting 5. I like keeping CJ, like Chris paul is a good idea for spurs. West got cut throat and scary. CJ 6 man of the year might be the play.

Ingram is the reason this team is even relevant. One Injured series and now all of a sudden he don’t fit. Most of Trey 3s come off BI getting doubled and having the court vision and IQ to find him. Jose is right hand man. Trey his protege and when him and Zion healthy Nola is a hard team to beat. I would say send CJ to the bench he would torch any team in the league off the bench automatic 6moty…. Start Murray Herb Ingram Murphy and Zion…. Everyone most learn to box out and Rebound… get Dwight he can still be productive gives you rim protection and rebounding… Grab Cousins as well both on minimum contracts… Still got Hawk and Ryan and Alvarado & the rookie so the guard position is good… ppl forget when Brandon and Zion both in the floor not many teams can beat them… now with Murray and CJ you got two players who can hold it down if the injury bug hits Zion and BI… with this roster Nola one center away from being the best in the west…. You gotta see it thru at this point

TRADE ZION!! If you put up a silhouette of an NBA player, underneath you had Zion’s stats, and games played, and the caption said, “This player hasn’t played a single playoff game in 5 years,” would you build your team around him??? HELL NO! We’re talking about trading Brandon before we get no value for him. At least Brandon has showed he can win you playoff games. This past season, he was hurt. But before then, we didn’t have those questions. I also feel this is a great time to force Brandon to shoot more 3s, change his shot selection some due to how poorly he played this past season. Something has to change and I think Brandon has the work ethic to do so… Zion on the other hand. You need such specific lineups for him because of his poor spacing. He’s ALWAYS hurt. And honestly, I feel like his explosiveness isn’t like it used to be, and he’s still so young. If he’s regressing in explosiveness already, imagine the next 3-5 years. It won’t get any better… I’m trading Zion while he still has value. If we don’t pay or trade Brandon, he may walk for nothing. But if Zion is hurt another year, his trade value will TANK!! This isn’t just a make it or break it year for BI, but Zion’s value will tank if he’s not healthy next season. And this is the guy we’re building our team around… Absolutely pathetic. Zion has failed us 5 years in a row and a 6th year won’t be any different.

Pelicans just need to go with young, cheap, and serviceable centers. Missi(block shots and rebound, has a decent post-game), Matkovic (can defend the paint, rebound, and shoot 3s), and try to find an undrafted 7-foot diamond in the rough like Jose and Naji were. Look at what Dallas did with Gafford and Lively, they weren't superstar centers but they hustled and did the little things.

His level of production and the cheap contract he has. You can’t let that go. OG Anunoby got 5yr $212mm. And I’m not saying OG is a bad player, but 4yr $54mm.
