what as name of tournament/date? May seems a bit late for snow in most places except upper plains/western Midwest or a very high elevation course.
Oh, I have tip for elevated baskes/hill putts is go 10 Grams less on main putter putting a disc and use a softer putter unless you already use soft plastics. I do his using a different putter same one since 2005 from my Magnets in Jawbreaker and some Proline Titanic discs for uphill/downhill putting where plastic is as rubbery in a sort of Classic Roc shape disc from a now dead brand at 166 grams as my main Putter and have used when winds are calm as an approach/very long putter and disc used to be my driving putter before I got Star Shark in 175 grams in 2016 and in 2009 and in 2014--2015 I was using my 175 gram Pro Shark. If I did not have disc I have used since 2005 or had a sponsorship not allowing use of disc, I would have a soft Pro D Magnet or possibly Jawbreaker around 166 grams for uphill downhill and very long putts.

@@BodanzaDiscGolf no problem. My tips help so you can float putts and not worry about over-putting your uphill/downhill puts with your normal disc and softer/tackier as in more grip is going to help on missed puts that do not hit basket and bounce unless you can go with a plastic that absorbs impact rather then bounces away.

Keeping working. Also, just play. You are so hyper focused on scoring and rating. It's fine to pay attention to that in between rounds and such, but I think that you distract yourself too much during the round with where you stand and what your score is.

As much as this might sound counter productive (especially financially) but for long term benefit, have you considered playing a round or even an entire tournament and SOLELY focus on playing, no camera, no phone, no thinking about video production, JUST disc golf? Or at minimum, maybe have a caddie do the filming and carry your bag to increase your focus on the play itself even just a little?

Anthony, just wanted to say that you're an inspiration of sorts to me after finding your content last month. Really enjoyed going through your vlog and seeing all the work you've put in and your passion. I've played disc golf casually for like 15 years now, but seeing what your capable of has made me strive to play better and most importantly have structure, goals and get back active in a lot of things I've put down or off for a while personally.
I know these videos really only display your virtual life, but thank you for letting us join you with what you show. I think your content is great and makes a difference. I only say all this to encourage you to continue pushing yourself, staying focus and dedicated both on and off the course - on and off tour; because you've done so for me.
I picked up a couple of your Marvel's. Got the gold stamp I'll play with (you won't be alone at putting practice), and I'm hoping I can snag your John Hancock on a flag stamp disc eventually while your on tour or something.
    God bless and much love.

I’m in the same place. I’ve seen to lost the joy that disc golf brought early on. I apply way too much pressure to play good golf and end up playing way outside of my potential. I’m 941 rated and shot 2 under 900 rounds this weekend. Couldn’t hit the blind side of a barn in C1. Multiple putting on several holes. BUT I do plan to just reset and find that joy again and just play the game as intended.

Putting tip for you: before stepping up to a putt, imagine the line and watching the disc hit the chains where you want. Step up, go through routine and hit that spot. If you have a negative thought AT ALL during your routine, step off and then reimagine the shot and make it. Best tip I ever received in this game.

Anthony, some encouragement: when I first started watching your channel I remember being speechless at how much better at putting you were than I was - WHILE talking to camera - and was fully aware that was why you were higher rated than me.
Now you’ve gone and made your backhand amazing which has been inspiring to watch.
But speaking of Paul Ulibarri, I heard him say before he did that massive turnaround last year that one of the biggest things for him was cutting so much of the “yeah I’m so bad” talk about himself, and also remembering “except I AM a really good putter.” And what was wild, when he said that I didn’t think that about him in comparison to the tour. But now he’s gone and proved it so hard no one can argue.
I hope in your journey you ALSO, Anthony Bodanza, remember “except I AM a really good putter.”

It’s just super important to play as much as you can on the course. Mix in putting practice and net practice / field work as your body can handle the stress and you have specific stuff to work on. For learning to score, nothing beats being on the course practicing scoring. Content is great but it’s a distraction.

I carried myself with negative energy. That is not the person I want to be even when my rounds aren’t going well. My next 2 tournaments I acted more like Missy Gannon. I now smile or even giggle after poor shots. I feel better and even play better and I don’t put my card down with me. It’s a win win.

Have you tried using a putter with more grip? I used to putt with the Gannon PA3’s and I had no confidence on the green. I felt like I was trying to force the putter to work for me, but I also felt that the putter didn’t stick or catch to the chains well at all. I switched to the classic judges with the hand eye stamp and it feels amazing and has boosted my putting confidence so much. Granted I’ve also been doing more intentional putting practice as well, but I also feel like they catch to the baskets much better too.

at little surprised at your putting commentary: what was normal about those greens? How do you practice putting on slopes, in the cold, in the wind? Each of us live in areas of this country (and around the world) where we have unique disc golf courses. If I were to play at this course, I would be freaking out on the putting greens. The balance, the core strength, the release points are all new and different (to me) - and essentially to you as well because you had one practice round. With more time on this particular field, you would have had a plan on where to land so that you could give yourself the best opportunities. It seems that the better you plan, it provides a better foundation to set your expectations. In a way, you may need to master these Q courses in order to achieve your ultimate goal of the DGPT. If you watch the progression of the card holders, ask yourself one simple question: How many times has Player X had to play this course in order to be top 10? The answer should guide you to a more reasonable plan that is both achievable and motivational.

  • @woodwindfixer9248

It may seem antithetical to competitive scoring, but perhaps think like a performing artist. If I am playing a concerto with an orchestra and I know there is a tricky part in the third movement, I am not thinking about that in the first or second movements, or probably not anyplace in the third movement until I get to it. Worrying, almost to the point of obsession, about mustbirdiemustbirdemustbirdie or I won’t reach X goal may be interfering with how you address a particular shot at hand.
Play in the moment-not each hole, but each shot. You know what a good shot is. You know how to construct a strategy on a single hole to make the most of what you have to work with. The only real competition in this sport is yourself. The adversarial competition is a construct. The cash line or top 10, while nice goals, are constructs. Push the “what if” calculation of score and rating to the side. “What if” you made 75% of the shots exactly how you wanted? 85%? 95%. What would your score and rating look like then?
Yes your putting train of thought was still boarding at the station for this one. It happens. But you seem to be pretty clear in your mind about what that meant to the end results, and that’s a good thing. I look forward to watching your improvements

This shows better than I've ever seen the level at what top tier players can pull in almost every tournament - what being dialed in and consistent (in varying circumstances)really means. Gosh, how long some players have grinded, and through experience and repetition in pro comps have finally got to consistent placing in the top half. This is at most unfortunate, but still builds up that foundation for when you get there, you'll then stay there!

Take it from me, someone with less than 1 year of experience who's 2 hours away from playing my first ever tournament... Most of your problems seem to be mental. Try playing the next tournament, basically the same as you play when you're just filming a round for us. You're putting a ton of pressure on yourself and missing shots i know you can make. You got this, man. It's just throwing some plastic circles in the end.

Honest question, are other people OK with him vlogging & talking thru the round? On the DDO vlog I guess it just threw me off as he's asking other players during the round what's up..I don't know, maybe it happens all the time and he has their permission, just seems like it'd be distracting for people trying to be locked in and compete.

Worrying about scoring and ratings is fine on a macro level big picture standpoint, but I think he is too focused on it at a micro level, like within a round. The scoring improvements will come with putting in the work and just playing.

You should definitely not watch the scores during the round, how far you are on cash line etc. (or at least try and see how it goes) It is amazing to me how much pressure that puts on you in addition to nerves playing in a tournament. It looks like you are stressing yourself way more then you should. Best of luck to you onwards

I watch you for content not for being amazing at disc golf, don’t worry if you play bad we appreciate your content either way. everyone wants to be a pro at disc golf but that is a dream that just dies as you play this sport more and more, I’m pretty sure it’s mostly up to genetics for weather you throw far or not ,

Maybe a chill pill before you play. You have racing thoughts and can’t settle down. For adhd folks, it’s often caffeine or something along that line that chills you. Whatever it takes, you gotta get out of your head. Plus I think you need to stay in the moment and turn the camera off. At tournaments, play disc golf, stay focused. Put the camera away

It's not embarassing. You'd have been a genius if your path was linear. Keep playing, and try to find ways to keep it fun. One thing I might suggest is throw fewer discs. Stick to the ones you know. I know alternating altitude makes that difficult, but trying to completely change discs acording to elevation just saps your confidence.

TONS of tips here, don't forget wearing layers slows arm speed and change resistance, which throws off your muscle memory, so let misses go and try hard! GL

Seems like you are, in hockey/lacrosse terms, "gripping the stick too tight." You are focusing so hard on feeling natural and calm that you're seemingly going in the opposite direction during the shots you really need it. You are working with a trainer for form and strength. Have you considered a few sessions with a sports psychologist? May be a worthwhile investment. Keep pushing!

This is the exact reason I stopped playing sanctioned events. Not fun; high pressure/ anxiety. Not sure why we hold sanctioned events higher than non. Just have fun keep it light. Also it's taken me 4 years to where my putt feels confident. Try to focus on this putt not the situation. More mental practice....?🤘✌️
