- In this Rocket League tutorial, I teach you how to score open nets to the best of your ability. Of course, in Rocket League, there's no way to confirm you would score every single time because mechanical mistakes are always possible. However, being in the right mindset gives you the best chance at scoring.

2:20 Why Open Nets Are Hard
5:14 The Right Mindset
7:45 Recap
The main reason open nets in Rocket League are so difficult is because you can't gain anything out of them. There's no way to go above and beyond. You can't look like a good player no matter what you do. You either look like an average player if you score it, or a horrible player that doesn't deserve their rank if you miss. This causes you to overthink the shot and try to not miss it instead of aiming specifically to score it. However there is a particular mindset that helps you avoid this bad thinking and score open nets even when they may be difficult mechanically. This video discusses why open nets are difficult by comparison to normal shots with defenders and how to make them as easy as possible so they only rely on your mechanical skill instead of mental skill.

I don’t miss the goal; I simply pass to teammates. In 1s.
Big brain plays that invisible teammate will always have your back lol
Hehe
Same
damn, your really lucky my teammates leave immediately
your not selfish for passing to teammate in 1s

hmmmm yes this fact is made of fact
I’ve never seen a more true statement in my life. EVER.
EXACTLY
This is my teammate
Before I watch this, I got a nice strategy.
Think of it like it's your own net, and you have to clear it. Go for the clear and you gonna score it like an owngoal. EZ
Lmao
YES
Yeah works everytime
HAHAHA that's brilliant
Thanks a lot that is more easyer now for me

Tip for never missing open nets; always wait for a defender. That way, it won’t be an open net when you miss
This is genius!
I do this because im toxic and want to be able to say what a save when i dunk on the defender
@Sueychops it has been one year, I hope you have recovered from this terrible disease called toxici
Hey, that's me flopping around at 0:35
i'm guessing you were going for a backwards goal?
Did you try to do a musty or something? Cause that was so dumb I gotta say 😆
haha
I think you were tryin to do somethin cool
I have a bad relationship with open nets
@CodingCrusader1095 unless u play ones then ur opponent is nice shot!nice shot ! Wow!
Dhruv Pawar options > gameplay > text chat > disabled
CodingCrusader1095 im in c3 too and i used to miss almost every open net like back in c1-c2 scoring an open net for me was like a rare thing
You both need to open up to each other.
Nobody:
Me: (intense sweating when there’s an open net)

My brain: Hey! The net is open. I think it would be a great idea to MISS IT
Bro sameee
More like
Everybody: (Intense sweating when there’s an open net)
Yeah cue the keye and peele clip of peele dripping sweat
Nothing worse than missing an open goal and your teammate yelling at you that you missed it. But they missed like 5 before you. 🙃
And of course the “take the shot” “dude u suck”
I'm that tm8 😭
@@therunawaykid6523 ah yes arnt those just the greatest?
Missing open nets will always be a fundamental part of my game, nothing you could show me would change that.
just..... uninstall the game

Nah they have a point. The real reason you miss open nets is your tm8's, even in 1s. Duh.
Dave Knise that’s not possible in ones or 2s because ur the one taking the shot if u miss that’s ur fault and urs only smart one
@@futty.vfx_1072 oh wow, you got the joke at the end. Good on you.
Sometimes there’s more pressure to score an open net and all that pressure builds up then... whiff

“You look like you don’t deserve to be at the rank you’re at”
Me, when I was bronze: “Are you sure about that?”
They ment bronze is too high ;)
Good advice. I've found that playing 1s actually made me a lot better at open nets. In 2s and 3s, it's difficult to know when you are going to get an open net, so the surprise causes a "surge." Playing 1s desensitizes you to this by providing them more frequently and predictably - if you play in a party you can just start off with a Bo3 or tournament as part of your warm-up.
Wayton this is actually good video. U r good at teaching. I haven't tried it yet but I think I can maybe make every open net. Thank you ☺️💓.
This guy makes his vids like sunless and I have a feeling Waytons gonna be a huge content creator for rl in the next couple of years
He already is huge I enjoy his videos he gives good tips that are helpful he really deserves a lot more subscribers though
When he said “it’s not about if you can mechanically make the shot or not, because we know you can” just made me feel better. Just someone saying “I know you can” made me feel good about my playing
Great video mate
8:14 I like this method, as opposed to reminding everyone at the start. It makes me realize that I did indeed enjoy the video and I am not subscribed, as opposed to throwing in my face right at the beginning that I should subscribe. Great quality and helpful vids too, you earned a sub.
This is one of the most needed tutorials.
This guy is so underrated, he puts out quality videos and his tips have actually helped me out.

Great video my man
Been watching your videos for a while now and really enjoying them. You just gained a new sub!
"Aim small, miss small" rule is totally true.
When I played football (that sport where you hit ball with foot) I was often joking, my shots were inaccurate because goalkeeper is bad.
But what is often the case, when goal is empty I just aim "in goal", but when goalie is really good, shots have to be really precise and strong, so im aiming e.g. "top left".
By far the easiest targert to aim for is someone's head, it's small but really easy to focus on xD.
*Watches whole 9 minute video* - misses first open net in C3 and gets “Nice shot!” from teammates
I'm tired of this season as iv got my rewards but I'm guessing you're happy it got extended?
Maybe I'm just a prophet
I got my GC rewards right before they announced the extension :(
Adomical me too i was really upset when they announced the season’s extension 😅
Yall have ranks?
Great video! This actually works for everything as well! Like air dribbles, ceiling shots etc. with the minor adjustments and overthinking. Just go for it
3:21 the shocked innocent face the octane makes by its headlights made me laugh. XD😂
I watched the "How to shoot effectively" video and this one too, but felt a bit clickbaited each time. I'm still searching for that Rocket League video that can teach me (a gold that understands a lot about the game but still can't hit the ball where he wants it even if he practices the same shot 100 times so he's never getting out of gold) the mechanics of how to hit the ball accurately and consistently.
Hey Bro. I'm not really good, but I'm mid Diamond... Wanna team?🙂
late reply, it may seem obvious but ive found the 1s playlist by far the most effective to improve all your skills in the game, you see all your mistakes and get punished for them until you figure them out. Ive noticed my 1s rank increasing directly relates to all my other playlists.
freeplay and 1s are best for improving

I feel lika as a bronze I do better playing against better mechanical players that against the average bronze because I can try to predict where the ball goes, while in an average game us bronze whiff and whiff and whiff.
I might actually try these tips. Thanks for this mate
The backing tracks and sound effects are top tier man. You got a sub from me.
You guys are way overthinking this.

6:44 It might have been in the scope of this video to also mention here: if you are to the side of the goal (as seen here 3:52), try to make it a habit to aim closer to your car, so that if you hit it wide to the right at 3:52, it might go in or bounce in off the post, and if you hit it wide to the left, the ball will be centered for your teammate to clean up.
Maybe you could even make another video on this.
really loving these videos
also I really needed this video, thanks
Your videos are the best RL teaching out there hands down, top quality content. Silly that you don't have more subscribers.
Thanks I've been struggling with this a lot. I thought I was just adding way too many mechanics to my shots. Just got to keep it simple
Nice video, big fan of your content!

Keep the videos coming!
very good video, wayton!
Dude I literally needed this the most right now lmao wayton u legend
Great stuff!
thanks to this video i can now make open net shots way(ton) easier
Overthinking is the biggest "shackle chain" on your skill. I'm kinda new to the RL but I have 5k in another game and same rules apply there, as soon you start getting nervous and overthink your move and shots you start getting a lot worse. Best thing is to be calm, "just do" the things you have to without thinking at all, let your muscle memory take over your hands. It's also quite the challenge to teach yourself to be in this mindset all the time because toxicity and unlucky shots can easily tilt our calm mindset to chaos and from there it's just snowball effect to the point you get real frustrated and just quit the game.
Thanks for a nice reminder. :))
Thanks! This helped me alot
thank you for all the helpful tips and videos you make. allthough i am a really bad player within the lower tier it keeps me motivated to improve and get better =)
Nice video, as always

This is 100% in line with the inner game of tennis. The book describes your mind as two part. There's your inner self which is this super computer capable of insane and instantaneous calculations and then there's your active brain which is what your hear when you think. Basically the entire book is about learning to trust that super computer and not let your active brain mess with it. When you go for an open goal that pressure often makes your active brain override and that's why you miss. You are literally fighting yourself and not letting the more capable part of your brain do the work. You just have to guide what you want it to do and then trust that it will perform. It's cool to see that you came to a very similar conclusion here
Great advice dude
I love that I made it in the video :,)
This was actually such a good video, great advice chief
Been playing for like a month and this is the video I been searching for
7:30 that clips made my heart pound
Amazing video!

Lol bro this is fire! Thank you! Mad funny too lol!
Thank you so much! Your videos are really helping me rank up. I'm a new player and I've just made it to gold. I really am having trouble with dribbling and aerials. But I'm taking your advice so I'll see how good I get. I'll post my gameplay videos online. Again, thank you Wayton ^_^
That editing at 5:00 is slick
Dang, really good tips. Wish I had these in my toolkit for when I played hockey
I'm so glad to see someone in a higher rank have problems with this as well. I am Diamond II and I run into this all the time and everytime I miss an open net, I feel like a complete failure. Lol. Thank you so much for making this video. Makes me feel better.
Great advice, I played college golf and my coach would always say, “The mind set for a tough drive is not ‘avoid this *insert obstacle*’ but rather ‘hit the ball to this spot.’” Once you have the skill, it’s all in the mental sometimes.
THIS IS WHAT I NEED
these clips are so painful and relatable, damn!

Bro I’ve only had this game for two days lol I watched almost this whole video and I got on the game and no joke make 6 goals!! We were losing by two, then we won 7-3!! Lol just wanna say THANK YOU! 🤙 keep up the great work brother! Much love from Vermont!!💯🤙🇺🇸
The psychological factor plays a huge role in your performance. I noticed that the more important the match is, the worse I perform due to pressure. When I started aiming for "mainly" improving instead of winning, my performance in important matches became way more consistent and the pressure was way less.
YOOO, your play style is exactly like mine. Its like watching myself play
As a semi professional golf player (hcp 2) I can tell you that " Aim small, miss small" Is an ABSOLUTE TRUTH. It's a MUST for every good golf player. It's the truth!!
The disconnect at 3:24 sent me hahahah.
Lol Mr wilkin told me about you because I play rocket league I like the content so I'm going to stay subscribed
0:40 that one cracked me up 🤣
Very helpful video! Could you make a video though on how to always stay calm and focused instead of getting triggered and mad when you play bad in for example 1v1? That would help a lot of players!
This litterly saved my style, after i watched your vid about how to shoot EFFECTIVELY and then it all became worse. This is a easy fix ;)
serious question how did you learn to edit videos like this it's so good!
