  • With the advent of the new Euro6 emission standards in London we were forced to sell our older diesel trucks and vans. Spent the day at Europe's biggest industrial auction for industrial plant, construction equipment and agricultural machinery; Euro Auctions in Leeds, with estimated targets we were hoping to make money on all 8 construction vehicles:
    1. VW Transporter 9 Seater Mini Bus » £3,000
    2. 2013 Mini Club Van » £3,000
    3. 2010 Volvo 8x4 Tipper Lorry » £8,000
    4. 2007 Volvo 8x4 Grab Lorry » £18,000
    5. 2009 DAF 8x4 Grab Lorry » £18,500
    6. 2008 DAF 8x4 Tipper Lorry » £7,000
    7. 2007 Volvo 4x2 Skip Lorry » £5,000
    8. 2006 Volvo 4x2 Skip Lorry » £2,000

    I believe the lesson to be taken from this episode is that you should always sell general stuff, like vehicles that everyone can use in almost any kind of work or business, in auctions and you should sell the more specific vehicles for specific works in another platform, preferably not the auction where the buyers are buying to sell someone else and not use the vehicle.

Haven't followed the truck prices much, but I have noticed the prices on plant seem to be higher earlier in the year before the "season" starts. Closer to the end of the year (before winter) the prices have seemed a bit lower. Looking out for their next auction in September 2021. It was really nice to see this from a seller's perspective though. Wishing you all the best.

    It's about the volume of vehicles in an urban area, and it should be noted that other cities have introduced emissions controls, Bath and Birmingham for instance!
    London has a particularly difficult problem with a larger urban area and so many more people wanting to drive within that area.
    Obviously in sparsely populated rural areas there isn't such a build up of toxic fumes, but as we all know the country is aiming for zero tailpipe emissions.
    Daniel, do you think you'll see the first electric LGV on your fleet in the next 10 years?

    • @RandomShart
      @RandomShart Před 2 lety

      Problem is that the worst thing for CO2 emissions is normally to throw away working vehicles to replace them with new ones. That's the trade off, cleaner air for higher CO2 emissions upfront. Best thing would be to tell people to keep what they have until it's no longer viable to repair it, then scrap it, then buy electric or hybrid.
