I like to think it's about stealing momentum from the wave rather than steepness. The real power is where the top water in the wave is pitching.
In a tube it's air pressure that fires you along.
PS, could you consider an episode on 'is it me or the board?'.
For say longboarding style do you feel cross stepping back on the tail for cutbacks is better for style vs a shuffle? Cos often i opt for a shuffle to get my back foot on tail to makr for a sharper turn?
I also found if i want more speed on a wave taking off at the peak is usually best. Shoulder hopping is also an art i was perfecting way back when .. but that's something to get sum get up n go speed ina pinch!
Hey bud if you had to wear a leash while longboarding which would u prefer I'm on the outs with mine I keep stepping on the dang thing and it hurts
That was an interesting bit about the adjustments from your usual 9’ 4” to to this 9’9”. Was there any particular reason you were surfing the 9’9” that day?
The 9’9 just holds its line so well especially in big or messy conditions, find it’s a super stable platform for when the conditions are subpar so had a blast out there on it. But being a bigger board I do need to step back a bit further to engage the tail properly - I’ll get there haha ! 🙏🤙
