    Thank you for choosing one of our knives on your list of this year's best, Aaron. The campero is a knife that we have many memories of for being one of our first designs in collaboration with Joker. Thank you very much and Merry Christmas to all.

    I've been a Joker knife advocate for a few years now for all the reasons Aaron outlines here. If you want a good, reliable camping/hiking fixed blade there are a number of Joker blades that will fill the void for you. Great value and quality for their price point. Check out their catalogue and pick one that meets your specific requirements. Sharp blades all.

    Cold Steel XL Voyager Vaquero fully serrated is my most recent acquisition, and it's the best self defense blade I've had. I added the snaggletooth wave opener for quick deployment.
    I was unsure initially how it would feel/work. But after a few months of carrying it, several chicken cut tests, and stabbing through heavy clothing, I'm astounded how great of a tool it is.
    It almost effortlessly stabs through 6 layers of medium weight denim. I was happily surprised. Quite frankly it's frightening. One could very easily cut someone to the bone with one good swipe. And Lansky makes a specific Cold Steel serration sharpener for it, so no worries about maintaining it.

    • @richardhenry1969
      @richardhenry1969 Před rokem +1

      Been carrying the vaquero xl for over 6 years. I also have the serrated aus10 model. It is by far the best self-defense blade I've ever found.
      I also have a voyager xl tanto that is a close second.
      In my back pocket I carry a broken skull for the random cutting task.

      @@richardhenry1969 my normal EDC is a CS Recon 1 spear point, which I have found to be one of the best overall large folders. When I'm working a Leatherman Wave is on my belt. The Vaquero is for when I can't, or don't want to have my sidearm on me. Cheers

    Tops Silent Hero 4 has been my own personal best mid-sized fixed blade. It's just an amazing knife. The Tops original full sized Silent Hero has been my favorite full-sized blade for a while now. There's just a "mythical" allure to these blades that call to my soul! (feeling a bit dramatically poetic today).

    • @the_gear_shak
      @the_gear_shak Před rokem +7

      It has been discussed at great lengths other places, and it comes back to one main issue: production capacity. They don't have the capacity to keep up with demand of their current models, so they aren't focusing too much on new models or variations of existing models.

    • @e.johnson5649
      @e.johnson5649 Před rokem +5

      I have to agree with all comments here.
      On the one hand: you can't mess with their warranty. It's the best in the business and they definitely stand by their products which I think we can all agree are top-tier quality.
      On the other hand it would be nice to see some new models or at least some revamps of old classics. I'd like to see the esee-3 do away with the finger choil. I think it's unnecessary for blade that size. Just make it a 3.875 in blade with a 3.75/3.625 cutting edge.
      I'd also like to see a MIL version of the esee-4 with a glass breaker pommel. Or how about a more robust model in their camp-lore series? Make it a bolo-esque style blade, with some serrations near the guard (usually a plain edge guy) 7/7.5 inch blade, .19 inches thick. Or maybe a sized-down laser strike.
      I can't argue with that they have classic products but customers like something new to look forward to as the seasons pass

    • @richroc7
      @richroc7 Před rokem +4

      @@e.johnson5649 ESEE’s warranty isn’t the best in the business but it’s still solid especially when compared to the other companies in this industry. BRK’s actually has the best warranty in the business because they have the same unconditional lifetime warranty for the knives but they also warranty the sheaths whereas ESEE doesn’t. 👍

    The Tops Brush Wolf is the best knife I've ever handled. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the more narrow grip, but after getting work done with it I understand it's purposeful design.
    With a two finger pinch grip at the very bottom, the heavy front-end design of the nessmuk, and a solid understanding on how to generate a good whipping motion. You can generate an incredible amount of torque at the end of your swing with this thing.

    I got the joker Pantera last year and it is a perfect hunting knife. You should do a review of it as well. Highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys hunting

    The reiff knife is what I call the Glock 19x of fixed blades. Compact blade fullsize handle hahaha

    Thanks for this, Aaron. Definitely looking forward to some of the upcoming reviews. The best NEW fixed blade experience I had this year was the Ruike Jager. It got sidelined for a while, because the handle was too small for extended use, but I put a simple paracord wrap over the handle and it's a whole different animal. Now it gets a lot of use as a round-the-house EDC and as a hiking/camping belt knife, but it also regularly gets thrown into whatever bag I'm carrying as a super-compact survival tool.

      G'day again Charles, last time I looked the Jager was the only fixy under the Ruike brand, and in 14C28N if I remember rightly. And having a win with a couple of their folders, especially the P105 Fang, I was tempted, though as you say the handle for a decent sized mitt did appear inadequate, so certainly understandable to apply a para wrap. Cant remember if the scales are removable ? I do have the means to whack some more substantial redgum ones on. If you dont mind my asking, what did you pay in USD ?
      Btw; have you ever used "Wison wrap" ? I'm seriously considering it for my BK-9 and 22 in. tramo, to save replacement altogether, then maybe the Condor Bushcraft Parang, (molded handle), depending on how it goes with the others. Cheers Duke.

      @@eyeofthetiger4184 hey Duke, I think I got it for about $60 USD, maybe less at the time. It's one of two fixed blade models they have, and I definitely recommend the other - the Hornet. It's a necker or small belt knife with G-10 scales, all skeletonized. Comes in black and Orange. Anyway, the scales are removable on the Hornet, but that would make the handle smaller, even if you then wrap it. I've used Wilson wrap and another brand of tape for wrapping cricket bat handles. They provide lots of cushion, but I personally prefer the durability and flexibility of the paracord.

      @@charlescollier7217 Thanks for the info Charles, about time I looked at the Ruike line up again. Cricket bat handles eh, thats interesting, right up my alley but didnt think of it.

      @@charlescollier7217 Having looked at both the Jager and Hornet, I note;
      they come with tech lock type clips, .... I've been looking for something to carry horizontally; my Steel Will Darkangel 900 does come with this option, but its a bit large for "scout carry" for my liking.
      Btw; Personally, I dont do neck knives, simply because I always have a compass and/or compact binocs in that position.
      On both, the scales can replaced with custom aussie redgum, (not the hardest timber on the planet, but certainly up there); comes up a treat with boiled linseed oil too.
      And 14C fixies for the price here in AUD, ........ very compelling. Many thanks again for the info mate.

      @@eyeofthetiger4184 Only too happy to share. I've LOVED using the Hornet - I honestly think it's one of the best small fixed blades under $100 USD. And yes, there are lots of options for carrying it.

    The joker campero is THE good surprise of the year. I've taken the carbon steel blade, it is a scalpel for a surgeon. It's easy to resharpen, the sheath is great. It is really a greatknife. The nomad is really good too, but i have not the same connection with it , than with the campero. Thank you for the great videos you make and i wish you the best for 2023
