    Barry is singing "My woman keep me warm;" but yup, they're all brothers.
    And yup, that's John Travolta. This music vid incorporates footage from Saturday night Fever, plus BG stage performance footage. the Bee Gees provided the lion's share of the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever and its sequel Staying Alive.
    This is the only known footage of little brother Andy performing with The Bee Gees. He was a solo artist, never an official BG member. Barry was close to making him an official member, probably partly to keep an eye on him, but Andy died of drug-related problems shortly after his 30th birthday. All of the Gibb Brothers are now deceased except Barry, so they can no longer tour.
    The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack is, by some accounts, the best-selling album in history.

      NO, Andy died from an myokarditis!

    • @DougRayPhillips
      @DougRayPhillips Před rokem +4

      That's not an either-or. His heart was weakened from his cocaine habit, and therefore more susceptible to myocarditis.
      That isn't particularly important to the original subject. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it. But what's done is done.

    • @Paladin70
      @Paladin70 Před rokem +4

      Myocarditis IS frequently a “drug related problem” associated with excessive cocaine use as Doug Ray, the original commenter, stated. He was correct.

    • @rbaruah8790
      @rbaruah8790 Před rokem

      Please get your facts correct......Yes Andy did take drugs but he checked himself into the Betty Ford detox centre and cleaned up his act..... he died of myocarditis and his system was drug free when he passed......

    • @Paladin70
      @Paladin70 Před rokem

      @@rbaruah8790 Drug related, clown, does not mean that the drug has to be in your system at the time of death! Myocarditis doesn’t just happen to 30 year olds. Years of cocaine abuse weakens the heart to the extent that it becomes vulnerable to inflammatory heart virus (myocarditis). Betty Ford, or any other rehab, treatment does not reverse physical damage done by the drug, it addresses the dependency factor. I worked in cardiology for many years and saw many former addicts with the same condition. Some made it and some others, like Andy, did not. Get YOUR facts straight instead of speaking from what you WANT to believe. Look up as many articles as you want on Andy’s cause of death and I bet they all will describe it as drug related.

    Most people only know their disco era. I especially love their early music from the 60's-70's. Barry has a great falsetto voice. Some of their early hits were "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "Holiday", "Massachusetts", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "Words", "The Singer Sang His Song", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Lonely Days", "I Started A Joke", "Melody Fair", "First of May" etc.

    Next do Stayin' Alive! You'll probably recognize it. Only one of the Bee Gees is still alive. That would be the oldest brother, Sir Barry Gibb. Yes, He's a knight of the realm. Wiki him. It's way too much to type to list his accomplishments. I think he is 76 now .

  • @keithcaserta

    Sadly, Barry Gibb - the lead singer (they all sang lead for various songs) - is the only one left. The four brothers came together for this song - including Andy Gibb, who was the youngest and the first to die, and who had a solo career of his own. Listen to their song, "Alone." A great song which ends prophetically. Barry is all alone in the last moments of the video.

    Disco time was the best, we were every weekend in the disco, dancing the whole night.
    The Bee Gees wrote the soundtrack for the movie saturday night fever.The soundtrack was released on November 15, 1977. It is one of the best-selling albums in history, and up until the release of Thriller by Michael Jackson the album was the best-selling album of all time. It remains the biggest-selling soundtrack of all time, selling over 50 million copies.
    In the United States, the album was certified 16× Platinum for shipments of at least 16 million units. The album stayed atop the charts for 24 straight weeks from January to July 1978 and stayed on Billboard's album charts for 120 weeks until March 1980. Three singles from the album contributed by the Bee Gees-"How Deep Is Your Love", "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever"-along with Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You", all reached No. 1 in the US. In the UK, the album spent 18 consecutive weeks at No. 1

    The Bee Gees don't perform anymore because two of them have passed away. Barry, the oldest, is still alive at 77. He's still performing and putting out albums. Robin Gibb passed away in 2012 after battling cancer for a number of years, while his twin brother Maurice died in 2003 due to complications of a twisted intestine. Their younger brother Andy Gibb died aged just 30 in 1988 after battling drug addiction and depression for many years.

    The listening public was clearly divided on disco. You were expected to either love it or despise it, and for those who hated it the hatred was vehement. They even had organized disco record smashing and burning demonstrations - similar to today’s cancel culture. The haters felt that if you liked classic rock then you weren’t allowed to like disco. I always chose my music by what sounded good to my ears, and as one who wouldn’t follow a certain path just because of societal dictates, I decided that it was ok for my ears to like both. They’re not on tour because Barry (lead singer) is the only living brother.

    John Travolta first appeared on the national scene playing a high school kid named Vinny Barbarino on Welcome Back Cotter. They said he had 10,000 letters from fans after the first episode aired. The Bee Gees’ manager signed him to a 3 movie deal. Saturday Night Fever and Grease, plus one other that is rarely mentioned. So young to have such huge lead parts, but he’d worked in theater and Broadway, and such a natural talent!!! You should react to a sweat hogs clip from Welcome Back Cotter. 😂 … and be sure to mention it when you’re reacting to Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever songs, so we can all go watch it.

    Disco was big when I was in my early teens, and I still like it. There was a huge backlash against it in the late 70s and into the 80s, with people who'd been strutting their Donna Summer T-shirts and BeeGees binders 3-5 years earlier doing a one-eighty and sneering at disco, snarking about how it sucked, and it was boring music, and they'd never liked it. Uh huh. [eyeroll] And to be honest, if you're just listening to a sound recording, it's not the most engaging music ever -- it's pretty repetitive, and not terribly dynamic, musically. But it's not music meant to be listened to, it's music meant to be *danced* to, and it's awesome for that. Watching a video is cool too. :)

    As mentioned earlier; Barry Gibb is the only surviving member left, and he's pretty much can't sing. At least no as good as he use to. The last album he put out was a compilation of Bee Gees songs he sings with other artist. Most of those other artists sing the high notes; as Barry can't sing them anymore. It's very sad, and as a old Bee Gees fan, wasn't impressed with this latest album. Felt more like a cash grab to me.
