@@FishRulesApp Thanks for that, we spent 13 years living and working on Cape York, the most adventurous part of Australia, I'm sure some would dispute that but it is what it is. The Cape has the most amazing fishing, the reef runs the entire length of the Cape plus more, and the hunting is awesome, feral pigs and scrub cattle.
Then you have to contend with all the dangers of the Cape as well, Taipans, eastern brown snakes, death adders, king browns, spiders with attitude, the largest and most aggressive crocodiles in the world, feral pigs, wild dogs, scrub bulls, etc, etc.
You would love it.

Gabe i watch all of your videos but watching this one and you talking about Dad and how he got you and your brothers interested in the outdoors made me tear up thinking about my Dad buying a 14 foot flat bottom Angler boat that gave us some enjoyment when we were kids just brought back so many memories. Great video. Where I live my husband and I don't catch massive big fish. We do grow a massive big garden on a half acre of land. And give away fresh home grown vegetables to neighbors.

Hey, fresh water fishing has its own charm, you don't get that peaceful nature immersion in a rocking boat out on the ocean. We don't have crappie around here, but from what I've seen your (and Rob's) videos it's quite similar to European perch fishing, lots of fun with no stress and little effort, so I'd say it's a rather good pick for a 70+ years old man that still enjoys an active outdoors lifestyle.

Our family tradition for Thanksgiving is to go to the woods. This year my nephew learned a good hunting lesson(to be ready). He had a hog come 10' from his blind and wind him. I was in a climber 20 yards away. It was hard not to laugh, but it was a fun trip.

That AJ and your warning about the dangers of spearfishing big fish is spot on. We dive and spearfish a light tower about 10 miles straight out from Virginia Beach. Usually, Spadefish, Tautogs and Sea Bass. Around 15 years ago a man shot a big AJ with no reel on the gun. While he was trying to subdue the fish, it wrapped him around the tower legs and he drown. I wasn't there but I knew people who were there and he broke enough safety rules that it cost him his life.
The Light Tower and Tower Reef sit in around 45-50 feet of water and is a structure that produced the State Record Mako Shark which weighed 729lbs and during the late summer, large Barracuda. One trip we saw a Barracuda that was over 5 1/2 ft. long and had to be over 60lbs. It was the largest any of us had ever seen and when my friend tried to shoot it, the spear bounced off.
