      Former police officer here, I totally agree. Medals of valor are generally reserved for military and police officers going above and beyond, life saving, etc. This civilian deserves it regardless. Most people in this day and age walk right past injured or dying people, i have seen it time and time again.Good to see a civilian going this far above and beyond deserves any and all recognition and awards one can get. What a brave guy! Maybe he should have been a cop ;)

    I am a retired police officer. Frequently seasoned trained police officers become excited in this type of situation. The civilian radio procedure was perfect. He was clam, clear, and to the point and did not tie up the radio with unnecessary rambling. He took prompt, effective, and appropriate action given the situation he was faced with. He deserves our respect and any award that DPS and the state of Arizona can bestow on this hero.

      @@mysterj1 as a police dispatcher, I couldn’t agree more. If something happens to one of my guys out there, God forbid, I just hope that they’re in the vicinity of someone as brave and as swift as this man was here. Help our brother out, immediately tell me what happened, tell me EXACTLY where, and then sign up to join our agency because we could really use that kind of spirit out there these days and we’ll take all the backup we can get. Just phenomenal!

  • @hotsoup1001
    @hotsoup1001 Před 3 lety +10

    The civilian good samaritan shooter is actually an ex-con who served his time and turned his life around. The only reason he was able to save this trooper's life was because he went through the long and complicated process to have his 2A rights restored. This man wanted no media attention and to my knowledge the only interview he ever did was at the police press conference at their request. He didn't speak much, but he told the media that he has a past and asked the media to leave his past in his past. Amazingly, the media did what he asked.
    I mention this because it's important to know that people can change if they want it bad enough. This man could have capitalized on this, but instead he just asked to be left alone. Now you know why you don't hear more about this humble man who saved a life in a high profile event.

    At the two minute mark you have a civilian on the officers mic clearly stating he has been shot and is in serious condition. How do you ask again towards the end if he was struck by a car or shot??? Very grateful the officer is ok and for the civilian passer by/guardian angel. Police are the most underrated heroes around.

    • @scanneraudio4709
      @scanneraudio4709  Před 7 lety +8

      I edited the quite parts when no one was talking but nothing else she probably wasn't thinking that he could've possible been shot most officer are injured by vehicles when working crashes not being shot.

    • @ZantherStone
      @ZantherStone Před 7 lety +4

      I imagine she was double checking to make sure she wasn't just assuming it was a shooting. When the other officer asked if it was a shooting or vehicle collision, in my mind I thought shooting, but then couldn't remember if he had said the word or I was assuming it. Also, a chance that after first transmission at 1:50, they were talking to each other in dispatch trying to figure what the heck happened or how to respond.
      One thing I've noticed on a lot of these, though, is that dispatch always seems to take forever to respond to a frantic help call....(or when a civilian). They should be trained not to hesitate and immediately sound an alert tone and say the last known location of the officer...that gets units rolling...and THEN ask for follow-up details.

    • @PhiberOptik1979
      @PhiberOptik1979 Před 7 lety +7

      I am a former police officer and Sergeant of uniformed patrol and I also worked part time as a paramedic for 8 years. It's important to know what injuries you are dealing with, however even in a civilian is hit, everyone one responds. Dispatchers are trained to keep trying to ascertain the condition of the victim, civilian or officer while the fire department is on it's way if it is possible or practical.

    we all hope we never find our self in a situation this horrific but if we do, I hope we all react in the same manner, not all police officers are bad and not everyone they pull over or stop to help are bad but they always have to be prepared, I would like to know what others civilians would do if they find their selves in the same situation, it's hard to say what you would do, I carry my pistol in my car with me at all time, never pull your gun unless your ready to use it or they can take it away from you.

    I
    have read all his comments, and eh seen again and again, all the reports about
    this case, I understand that everything is governed by laws and that apparently
    the correct thing is what this man did. I am a very close person to Leonardo
    Peñuelas Escobar; This man who died at the hands of Mr. Thomas Yoxall; I also
    had a family and was at the service of the military forces, as well as in a
    federal agency of our country (Mexico). I can say with certainty that he was a
    good man, that I made a decision to reach the USA in order to improve the
    Quality of life and of his family working. On receiving the news of his death
    and the way in which it happened, he leaves us with great incognitas, as a
    person who knows the protocols to protect and serve, this could have happened
    to him or to be the protagonist of such an act, Leonardo Peñuelas, Only ah is
    known as the individual addicted to illegal stay, but there is something behind
    this story that tell, do not want to reveal, even missing the statement of
    agent Trooper; Since in simple deduction, Leonardo Peñuelas had a lot of
    knowledge in arms and protocol of protection, and it has been commented that
    the shot in 2 occasions against the agent Trooper, then why it struck him? And
    being that he had a weapon because it did not affect the aggression of Thomas
    Yoxall? Apparently there is something else in this story that they do not want
    to tell, hopefully can clarify this fact, because when we received the body of
    Leonardo Peñuelas in Mexico, you could see traces on his forearms by sumicion.
    We do not believe that they have submitted the body or if?
