The irony of Cena is a huge portion of the audience spent years refusing to accept him as he was in the prime of his run. The way he’s jobbed for everyone in recent years along with self aware interviews like this makes it impossible to not respect the guy.

Yup during there feud a lot of his fans kept calling the rock a sell out and I would tell those fools, if Cena's move the Marine would of been a box office hit then he would of been left for Hollywood and ended up a part timer too but they said nope he would be wrestling for life lmao Every wrestler would be a part timer if they had a box office hit the problem is 99% of them don't have box office hits and they ended up going down the straight to dvd movie route which is fine but that route doesn't allow them to be a part timer

John Cena looked at the situation from his side of it, he just saw what Rock was doing and interpreted it as : _"Him not caring about wrestling anymore"_ but he (Cena), didn't take into account that he (Dwayne), was done with wrestling. That part of his career was already finished, so he felt there was no reason to go back if he had nothing else to prove. I liked how Cena finally saw the light, and admitted he was wrong for criticizing Dwayne the way he did.

Gotta respect Cena's intelligence. He can see things from the other side. When Rock came back he cut this blazing promo and then all of a sudden he reigned it in and Cena started taking pot shots at him. Rock kept engaging as a performer reciprocally to entertain the fans while Cena broke the 4th wall to one-up him. Nevertheless, Cena always looked a million bucks and the strength of his character has made him a superstar. You only ever hear good things about Cena backstage aside from that stuff with Nexus. If you're as smart and talented as he is, your own conviction will sometimes supersede due practice or respect to one's own detriment.

This brings an interesting perspective to what we understand as 'heel turns', as I always thought one of the elements of wrestling that needed suspended disbelief more than most was the idea that a guy at any moment's notice can go from being the good guy to the bad guy. However, Cena is one of the biggest babyfaces in WWE history, and here is himself admitting to, in real life, making decisions and saying things which made him feel like a bad person in the situation, which goes to show the idea of 'turning heel' maybe isn't so unbelievable after all. Despite the death of kayfabe, I love the fact that being able to dissect the wrestling business in this manner shows how much truth can be behind all the 'magic'.

I'm not sure if you realize this, but there are a lot of other ways to sell a match besides being serious and intense, a lot of times The Rock makes jokes like Cena, but the difference is he is in a serious tone, take all that and there really isn't a difference on what these two are doing in their promos besides character work. You generalize that Cena will always be lesser because Cena is ''goofy'' in serious moments, you clearly ignore all the amazing serious segments Cena has had over the years, and in this feud, especially when he suffered his first loss against The Rock and gone on a redemption angle.

I always find it funny when wrestling fan boys get all emotional with hate, whenever a star leaves and only works part time. Do those fools really think that it's good for 40+ year old to keep putting there body through hell every day just for the entertainment for us? Fools be wanting wrestlers to be like Ric Flairs age still wrestling from time to time. When that feud happened, remember going at it with some Cena fans lol they called the rock a sell out. I told those derps that if Cena's first big movie the marine, if it was a box office hit, HE WOULD OF BEEN LEFT WWE and ended up becoming a part time way back then. Like the rock said, he didn't NEED WWE but the WWE NEEDED him. Cena NEEDED WWE because his movie career hadn't picked up yet. He would still be wrestling now if his movie career didn't pick up and it's hard for hardcore fans to understand why certain people go part time. It's rinse and repeat cycle because then you started having Roman Reigns hating on Cena for being part time but now look at him lmao Roman is part time now and he wants to do the movies. NOW look at who's getting on Roman for being part time, you have Seth Rollins getting on him BUT now look at Seth Rollins getting a small part in Captain America 4. Fools don't realize if Seth gets more acting jobs then HIM TOO will be gone too. You can only put your body through so much in wrestling at a certain age. I'm just glad that Cena apologized publicly to the rock back when he did the Transformers bubble bee movie and even now he still talks about it. Yes wrestling will be there number 1 but if they can make it in Hollywood then that will always be a better option that won't have major impact on there body like wrestling does. I'm sorry but even though I enjoy seeing older wrestlers make appearances from time to time, it's still kind of cringe seeing some older wrestler who struggles walking to the ring, still trying to wrestler only because we think it's cool but at the end of the day they would never be in that position if WWE wasn't there ONLY financial option
