      dance. It’s fascinating understanding how it all comes together with the firefighters safety being paramount & how that’s achieved. Its great to see up close how the command centre operates. I have so much more admiration for all the Members. Are you an ex-fireman? Deirdre

It's always interesting to watch TV shows about fire departments and watch them use their power saws to go thru a door, or a fence or a roof and how fast the saw works, then you watch the NYFD crews fight with doors or fences or roofs to cut thru them. All the drama and none of the reality on the TV shows. I applaud the NYFD and ALL the work they do. Never a dull moment!!

    I never heard a 2nd alarm transmitted either, and I was focusing on the radio transmissions. From what I can tell they skipped the 2nd alarm altogether and jumped right to a 3rd alarm. Okay now that is scary. You have the chief commanding all members to evacuate, fire flashing over, and not only are the members very slow to evacuate, but a lot are also not answering comms. This was an extremely dangerous situation, and I'm sure the chief was very not happy about it.

    John I comment on most of your videos in a positive manner. This scene was a tuff fire but when you got command evacuating the building and then you have members climbing up the ladder and just standing there doing nothing then one guy takes his protective gear off and almost gets torched when the fire flashed over out the window. Those members clogged up the evacuation of that balcony and second floor. A few people need an ass chewing cause that could have went real bad. Brother your the best at what you do take care and be safe.

    So far great video as usual. They should of just cut the clips on the fence. Two holding horz and a few on each vert side. I'm not there and have no adrenaline rushing so maybe I should of not made comment. If I'm correct i hope i pointed something good out. I have seen this situation on videos from other channels also

    Why does it take so long to engage tower ladders? Seems to me that they would have them ready to go at the first sign of fire on the roof. In my opinion. New York seems to have a lot of fires that might night be as bad if tower ladders were used right away. Just my opinion.

    John, in terms of fire equipment, what does the term ‘chauffeur’ refer to? I’ve heard it often on your outstanding videos. Many thanks.

    • @andrewr5980
      @andrewr5980 Před 2 lety +2

      Chauffer is the driver of the Fire Truck, operates the pump on an Engine type Fire Truck as well.

      Chauffeur is the FDNY term for the Driver/ pump operator of the apparatus. Some departments call this the “engineer” position, and some call it the MPO “ Motor Pump Operator”. For engines, they manage the water supplies, and pump pressures in the hose lines, and for Aerial apparatus they typically drive and operate the aerial device.

      Chauffeur is the rig drivers. Engine chauffeur hooks up to hydrant and regulates water pressure…truck chauffeur operates any hydraulic ladder or bucket but also goes into fire.
