Thank you. My hanging strawberries have half a dozen runners and I had no idea how to propagate them. Now I do. The only change I made was to also use landscape staples inside the bags. Otherwise for some reason the soil was too heavy for the runners to remain in constant contact with the soil. Obviously something I was doing wrong. Thx. Now looking forward to more berries year after year. Am now off to check out your book I see mentioned in the pinned comment. tc

The last one you did in this video where you left in on the mother plant, you can do that to rose bushes as well. Take a rose bush branch that is long and flexible, bend it over to the ground where you have dug a shallow hole, cut a notch in the branch being careful not to cut it off, place it in the shallow hole and cover with soil. It about 2 weeks it will have rooted out. If you don't want to place it in the ground, you can use a container.

I started with like 6 strawberry plants. Since runners take so much energy I use only one for propagating and I use the others for fruit. I just cut the runners off the ones for fruit so they can use most of their energy on making the strawberries and for the one dedicated to propagating I ONLY use it to get more plants. Yeah...

I can see 3 baby heads which I am so happy about but especially my daughter, who loves strawberries!! I want to do a tower like yours, so she will remain happier & longer than normal! You don't need to go as far as that bag. I mean it works, but using a little of rooting hormone you can propagate with just water, or even snip them off at the top of the runner, and plant it.

Now Im dealing with these damn baby spotted lantetnflys all squatting in my roses and they are not easy to take out without taking out my roses. This weekend I designed a strawberry tower using a pvc pipe. What I have not thought about is how I will cover with straw to protect it through the winter. Vertical gardening has its pros but also cons. My other problem is when watering, the dirt escapes through holes. Eventually I'll figure out the best solution.

I actually just bought 24 strawberry plants the other day, and came across this video. In your experience, do strawberry's do better in the ground or tower crate? And if in the ground, how much do you need to have the bed raised? And is there anything else that I should know about them? I've watched all your videos on strawberry's, but I figured trial and error or success right? lol thx!

I was just given some strawberry cuttings. Do I plant them now being so late in season or how do I preserve the plants till spring in order to plant?

You actually get better rooting results and quicker rooting when bury them deeper into the soil. You can even bury the entire thing if you used a little cup instead and they will do fantastic.

Do you know if one in cold climates would have to take the berries inside during the winter?

    A few questions:
    1) What is that tape called? It sounds very useful but I need to know what I am asking for in order to buy it!
    2) Is there anything you can do to encourage a runner to start growing roots? Everything I see just says to wait and it will just happen, then tells you what to do once roots start to show.
    3) Once you have assembled the ball of dirt in a baggie for a runner to grow it's roots in, it seems like the baggie of dirt might be too heavy for the runner too support the weight of it. Has that ever been an issue?

You might have day neutral berries? I think they don't really produce runners. I want to try each kind next year to see what works better for me in my area

How do you make strawberry plants to produce runners? I had my plants for a year and they haven’t made runners. I have the pine berry (white strawberry) and the Elan red strawberry

When you say potting soil, does it have the 6-9 month fertilizer in it? Or is it more like seeding soil with no fertilizer?
