He may have had fifteen shots, but that doesn't mean the bartender should be held responsible. The bartender doesn’t see the table ticket since the server only orders the drinks. If the bartender deliberately served this guy all the shots, I could understand they were being charged. Ultimately, the drunk guy is responsible for his actions, so he is the one who needs to be held accountable for them.

I worked at a Indian casino many years ago as a bartender. One night one of the managers was way drunk, in uniform. I took her keys and the shuttle took her home and she had no clue. Two days later she fired me for what I did. Eventually the UIA and my attorney were able to fish me a nice chunk of change from the casino. Haven't been back in a casino since.

Eventually, the inevitable happened and I was in a serious wreck. 2 crushed vertebrae, 4 broken ribs, broken nose, concussion...it was bad. But thankfully, it was a single vehicle accident. I thank God that I didn't hurt or kill someone else. I couldn't imagine having to live with that. Driving under the influence is never worth it. It doesn't matter how 'experienced' you are or if you're just buzzed or whatever, it's a terrible idea that will end in tragedy eventually.

Most states have these laws, and as a bartender I completely agree with them. A few months ago I had a group of people come in. They were tipsy but they were using Uber, so I wasn’t too worried about them. After getting them their cocktails I realized one man should not have been served. I watched him closely. There was one person in the group who was sober. I told that guy that I wasn’t going to serve drunk guy anymore alcohol. He agreed and said he’d deal with him. Sober guy ordered shots for everyone (except for drunk guy.) I gave everyone their shots, no one wanted them. The shots just sat on the bar. I turned my back for 30 seconds to wash some glasses and drunk grabbed the FOUR shots! He slammed all FOUR of them before I even turned around. I was pissed!! I asked them all to leave. While they were waiting for their Uber, drunk guy, of course, became a problem. He tried to lie down on the floor and sleep. Oh, hell no! I made his friends get him out of my bar. Then he wanted to pass out in one of the cafe chairs outside. I went out there to get him up when the Uber showed up. They had to carry him to get him in the van. I told the whole group that I never wanted to see them again. Hell, I’m still mad about that guy! Even if you don’t plan to drive, alcohol poisoning is a real problem. There are laws that I have to obey! These weren’t kids. They were all like 40. They should know better!

About 30 years ago, I witnessed a pickup clip of a tractor-trailer and flip over. I stopped to render aid, and OMG, the car was full of empty and full beer cans. I saw an empty baby seat in the back seat of the truck. I put my hand around the driver's neck without thinking and yelling at him where is the baby.
When the police pulled me off him, they told me there was no baby and that I was free to go. I think I snapped, and my hand automatically went around the drunk driver's neck after seeing an empty baby seat and thinking a baby got injured or worse.

My pain is my pain and sometimes I just gotta wreck shit to deal with it but I do it alone, in the comfort and safety of my own home where I can get as stupid or crazy as I need to then have the chance to move on without that burning hatred leading me into a situation I can’t come back from. Misery loves company and my misery is unparalleled and unique bc I want to self destruct and I do everything in my power to protect everyone from the monster I am and can become. I shoulder 100% of the blame for the dumb shit I’ve done and many a person with a guilty conscience like me doesn’t care who they hurt with it. I use to have a friend who struggled with alcoholism, I did everything to get them help, a few years ago, he was drunk driving on Fathers Day and he ended up flipping his car with his 2 children inside, I just thought it was an accident, but it later turns out he was drunk and he was even so out of it that he didn’t strap his kids into their car seats and when they found him he got out of the car trying to fight the cops while blood was gushing from his head. His daughter is now a paraplegic and his son suffered a brain injury. He pleaded guilty, but decided he now wants to proclaim his innocence. I was unaware while being his friend that this would have been considered his 4th DUI. I know he didn’t kill anyone, but his drunk driving lead to so many changes and so many lives being ruined and I’m honestly disgusted that I was even associated with him. The field sobriety tests are used as additional evidence of impairment. Not all driving impairment is alcohol related. FSTs are generally voluntary statewide, but declining them does increase the probable cause an officer has to make a DU😮I arrest and depending on the state it can result in actions against the driver’s license.
There’s a lot of criticism over the criteria of FSTs and the lack of training involved in administering them as well as the belief that they are designed to be failed. Essentially, it’s more likely they are used as a tool to support an already suspected DUI case should there be any legal argument against breathalyzer or blood alcohol test results.

@@tomd4748You're saying it sounds melodramatic after watching multiple cases of vehicular homicide due to driving while intoxicated? ?

I drove drunk once in my early twenties. I got a few blocks from the bar, nearly went over a median during a turn, and immediately pulled over. I called a friend to come pick me up (a sober friend.) Best decision of my life. In the twenty years since, I’ve thought of that night many times when I was tempted. I legitimately thought I was fine that night when I got behind the wheel, just a little buzzed.

Anything less than 50yrs for taking a life is an injustice to not only the families of the victims, but an injustice to the entire community!

I used to work in an insurance company here in France and unfortunately, we faced some tragic cases of accidents implying bodily injuries or death.
Remember that when you have an accident while DUI, your insurer will pay compensation to the victims and family BUT they will pursue you afterwards to be paid back. You lose e-ve-ry-thing.
Compensation for bodily injuries are very, very high (though less than in the USA as I know).
We had the sad case of a man who died in a car accident on the motorway, while DUI.
He managed first to get off of his car but then he was hit by a big lorry.
    His body damaged the lorry.
Not only his widow got nothing from the insurer, but she had to pay the price for the repair of the lorry...
I had to explain that to her. It was one of the worst moment in my carreer. 😔
I don't know the law in the USA, but here, after a car accident, a bartender and even you or me can be sued if we let someone leave the premises/home and we know that this person is too drunk too drive.
All my thoughts for the victims and their family and friends. 🌹
