    I had a P0300 code on my 2003 sierra 1500 SLE 5.3 for the last month or so. almost all the videos I watched where from guys trying to promote their channel and helping stiffs like me was secondary. I thought it was suppose to be the other way around. I had thrown in the towel and made an appointment to take it to the dealership for service in a couple of days. . I came across your channel this afternoon and thought I'd check the fuel pressure regulator. once I pulled the vacuum hose off, fuel came dripping out. did the fix and didn't even break a sweat replacing the part under the Arizona heat. You just saved me a few hundred bucks. I did not find one video on a P0300 fix on you tube that suggested checking the fuel pressure regulator. Thank you brother.

    For anyone viewing this video and hesitating dont this guy knows what the heck is going on with this problem. My truck had been to the dealer and multiple mechanics and nothing. It took about 40 minutes and it was done. I wish I lived by this guy I would make him my mechanic for the tough stuff and jobs I dont want to do.....Thanks again for this amazing tip.....

    Great video, it fixed my 2002 Silverado 6.0L. I was having long cranking symptoms when engine was at running temperature, also the truck was running very rich, and had a rough idle. Saved me a lot of time diagnosing the issue. $70 part and a couple minutes to install.

    Thanks for the video. My 2500 6.0L was displaying signs of loss of power loss off idle and gradually started to not idle at all. A new FPR seemed to have fixed it and I appreciate the ease of replacement that GM designed into the design. My 1990 Corvette needs the upper plenum removed and gaskets to do the same job. 15min vs 2 hrs. My AC Delco from the local ship was a bit more at about $100. Thanks again.

    This is a really easy job to replace this regulator. My 2003 suburban needed a new regulator and I did it within 15 or 20 minutes. The regulator on the flex fuel system mine has is a little different than the one pictured here. The vacuum connection is on the end and not on the side like in this video. There is no screen either for the part I got. There's 2 blue O-rings and one black spacer. The spacer goes on the inside end of the regulator followed by the larger blue O-ring. The small blue ring goes inside the regulator housing and is easy to get out with a pick. Even though you relieve the pressure prior to starting the job through the Schrader valve, quite a bit of fuel still comes out when you remove the regulator so make sure you have a large cloth towel underneath it and only do this with the engine cold. Once you push the regulator in place and connect the clamp and vacuum hose cycle the ignition two to three times to bring up the fuel pressure and then start the engine. Very easy job. Thanks for the great video!

    OK I dont know where to start but THANK YOU.... Guy this is the answer right here I stopped at the autobarn on the way home picked up the part about $70 not bad I thought. I came home a bit hesitant and then started hoping and praying that this was the answer and yes this quick fix KICKs AZZ. I have to say that I was kinda not sure if it would work but the engine turned over stronger than it ever has before, it also ran smoother than ever and to add all the best on top. Mine isn’t leaking, but I’ll test it by taking the vac line off.

    But every other time it starts it needs to crank for 3 seconds.

    If you are having trouble starting your truck after installing this, put a bit of oil on the o rings and really try and create a good seal. It is harder than it looks to put back in place. Twist and push. Also, be careful with the small o ring. I dropped mine in the fuel rail and it was a pain to get out.

    i would have your battery tested and check the connections, this is usually the case of the symptom your describing, although its hard for some shops to test side mount batteries i would still do this. other than that the starter connection on the bigger wire that goes from the solenoid to the starter motor itself tends to get corroded and this can cause those issues you speak of. So, if your vehicle starts and then suddenly stalls seconds later, check your security light to see if it blinks (mine did 3 times) then stays on. If this happens, start your vehicle, when it stalls just leave your key forward, this could take ten minutes or so, but wait until your security light turns off. Then turn your key to the off position for 10 seconds, then start it. This will reset your VATS ( vehicle anti theft system ) to recognize your key again. Thiis was on my 99 suburban. Getting a new one made from the dealer would be a good idea once this happens. Hope this helps!

      fuel pressure is very finiky on most models ive seen 6 psi cause major driveabiltiy issues

  • @JoeTheAutoGuy
    @JoeTheAutoGuy  Před 11 lety

    So your fuel pressure should be at 60-66psi although with the v6 yours is located under the upper intake manifold on the spider injection assembly , not to hard but does take about 2hrs to get to

  • @Loudlevin
    @Loudlevin Před 10 lety +1

    On my 99 nbs sierra 2500 with the 5.3 I picked up a fuel pressure gauge and noticed with the engine running I have a very rough pulsation between 48-52 psi, already replaced the fpr twice, first time for it being a busted diaphragm on the original , second one because it started a buzzing sound. With the breather hose off the FPR the psi goes to a solid 60 psi, engine off key on psi is 50-54 psi steady. Replaced both fuel rails and the buzzing/vibration sound is still coming from the FPR, and stops with the breather hose off. Driving me nuts.

    • @JoeTheAutoGuy
      @JoeTheAutoGuy  Před 10 lety

      key off steady pressure is normal , fluctuating at idle is most likely a faulty fuel pump provided you don't have any vacuum leaks making the pressure drop because of the computer commanding the injectors open longer to compensate for extra unmetered air if the fpr is buzzing warranty it

      Thanks for the advice, going to look for vacuum leaks when it gets a little warmer out. Seems like the intake gasket issue these trucks have might be playing a role in this , so many people have this same exact issue... possible just a small leak can be causing this, not enough to throw any codes. Ill report back my findings when I can.

    Possibly on the Vortec 5.3 also? My 99 Silverado 1500 cruising at about 60mph it kind of tries bogging down but if I give it more gas it runs fine, then if I'm in deep snow or mud it also acts like its not getting enough fuel. I did check the fuel pressure and it was in spec but that's been awhile ago. It only recently started doing this in the deep snow. My oil pressure was always at a solid 40 and is now around 35.

  • @JoeTheAutoGuy
    @JoeTheAutoGuy  Před 11 lety +3

    usually with the fuel pressure regulator leaking or any fuel leak at all will eventually smell like gas inside the car, the regulator will smell like fuel as usually they act up upon start up when the engine is cold so when it is colder and the engine demands more fuel the smell is more apparent. i would assume this is the route to take in solving your issue

    That's what everyone was telling me but I know It's not the problem. If it was it would do it all the time. I figured it out & fixed it, my fuel injectors were leaking.

      I have good fuel pressure...turns over all day...won’t start.
      I took the vacuum line off and turned the key on, fuel come blasting out of the regulator.

    My 95 Saturn SC2 started good first start of the day but then had a rough idle that bounced up and down in rpm but only did this after it warmed up for a few minutes. If I shut it off warm it would restart quickly but if I waited to restart 5 minutes or more it would crank and crank before sputtering to a start. Also didn't accelerate as fast as it should. Changed the IAC, TPS, plugs, wires, fuel filter, checked the coils and were good. Unplugged vacuum hose to FPR, spit gas. That was the prob.

    2005 suburban with 5.3L v8 (non-flex)
    Idle RPM will sporadically bog down and go back up normal. Other times it's fine. No pattern to it nor any known indicator of reason... started out of the blue. No light or codes. No issue starting. Cleaned MAF & Throttle Body with no improvement. Today is sputtered and hesitated once while driving. Increasingly worsening it seems.
    Thinking its FPR? Or TPS?

      @@JoeTheAutoGuy I hooked it up earlier.... can I connect it tomorrow and report back what it says?
      It shows short & long fuel trims, o2 sensors and other live data.
      Edit: I dont have the FPR on the rail like you do either... I looked high and low for it. I think mine is with the pump in the tank. 😮🙄🤬

      variable pump on your model no regulator to replace unless fuel pump has issue . what are your fuel trims while running and when it has the isssue ?

  • @JoeTheAutoGuy
    @JoeTheAutoGuy  Před 11 lety

    what year is the Beretta, its possible you have a vacuum leak causing the hesitation, or a fuel regulator , possible , might even be an issue with a crankshaft position sensor . its hard to say but i would go about checking for vacuum leaks

    Hope you respond to this. This seems to be a possibility. But also what about the fuel pump. I had a 99 s10 and the same problem occurred. I have a 03 yukonXL right now and its showing the same symptoms. When I'm idling and rev it, no problem. Only when I'm moving does it start sputtering.

    Hi, I have an 02 2500 HD with a 6.0 and mechanic could not fix, getting to much gas thru the motor, oil pan had 4 extra quarts of gas/oil in it and it runs really rich on the drivers side. Could this be the pressure regulator?

    • @JoeTheAutoGuy
      @JoeTheAutoGuy  Před 9 lety +2

      The Comedy Web Dot Com to much fuel pressure can be a bad thing, this could be caused by the regulater, more likley is you have an injector thats stuck open this could be a injector or the circuit ground control through the pcm if your getting a dtc code for running rich i would follow the flow chart for diag, if you have a measured 4 quarts of fuel contaminated oil (sight is not a acutrate measurement) you most likley have an injector system issue. and damage has already been done to the bearings andd upper cylinder wear as lubrication would be comprimised

      @TheComedyWebDotCom Před 9 lety +1

      JoeTheAutoGuy Thanks for the info, I drained the oil and changed it and it was about 4 quarts.Took to a mechanic and he said he tried injectors from another truck, not sure he did. I ordered a pressure regulator and will try that.

      It's either a bad intake manifold gasket leak or the plastic intake manifold is cracked and leaking. There is a TSB about this and the FPR for the Vortec 5.3 Gen 3 (1999-2006) motor.

    1996 Chevy Silverado. Very hard start. Takes lots of cranking. Even weirder, sometimes it loses all power while cranking. If I wait, I get power again.
    Once it starts, it runs fine. Thought it might be the fuel pressure regulator. Pulled the throttle body and peered inside. Everything, including the bottom of the butterfly valve, is covered in black gunk (carbon?). Saw elsewhere this might mean it's the fuel pump pulsator. Any opinions?

    Craziest thing is it will run like a gem when it does actually start and run. I will pick up a fuel pressure regulator on my way home today. Are there any special steps prior to changing it other than just replacing the part. That sounds rather simple but if there are any steps that I need to know or do prior to pulling and replacing the part?

    Joe, how are you doing? I was wondering if you could help me with the problem. I have a 2007 GMC sierra SLE 4.8 L and it holds 26 gallons and I’m only getting 300 miles to a tank to 270 miles sometimes The truck runs good the truck starts good everything seems to be normal. I change the eve app canister I changed the throttle position sensor I clean the throttlebody. I change the gas cap and I’m wondering why I’m getting such get better gas mileage. It almost seems as if the fuel pump is sending too much fuel yet the car I mean the truck starts fine runs fine idles fine but it’s sucking gas. Any thoughts?
