Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is the second Kingdom Hearts ( tasvideos.org/GameGroups/61 ) game released, detailing Sora's encounters in the mysterious Castle Oblivion.
This run is done on Reverse/Rebirth, which is Riku's campaign. The author, Doc Skellington, heavily abuses luck for nearly everything, beating the game in about the time it would normally take one to finish the first level. More information can be found in the author's comments.

"Riku bullies wizards for 20 minutes"
Nice
Don't forget about the copycat
Riku: That’s right. I do what I do to grind levels.
These sprites are god-tier
For as weird and oddball the mechanics are in comparison to the other games you cant deny nomura really made KH on the go on the GBA a legitimately eye pleasing experience. Not saying he exclusively made it, just saying he wanted to make sure it was that.
Facts
I've never seen a better executed isometric action game in my life. This game is criminally underrated especially when one takes it out of the context of a Kingdom Hearts analog and instead as a 16-bit(32ish) isometric action rpg with card mechanics and dungeon-randomization to boot . It has particle physics, a fully fleshed out z axis, all 8 directions of movement are animated, it has fully animated character faces beside the dialogue boxes. It's such a unique blend of so many random things, and it comes together so cohesively that no one questions it outside of being a handheld version of Kingdom Hearts when really, there is no other game like it.
This game was the biggest GBA in terms of data. It was 256 MB.
@@videogamerNattie98 Honestly, playing ReChain a bunch by now just makes me tired of the game mechanics, but I will never ever stop being impressed at how they managed to cram literally every single aesthetic detail about KH1 into a GBA game.
Being one of the few people who played Chain of Memories before KH2 came out was magical.
I remember the ads that played for it on the Disney Channel. I was so hyped, so one day when my mom told me she had something for me if I put away clean dishes, I screamed in excitement when I saw it was CoM
This game was the whole reason i was overly obsessively hyped with 2 i fell in love with the series jus based off this game i couldnt wait to see what the continuation of this story would be in 2
idgaf about arguing the quality of the game or story, but "the Road to Dawn" is probably the most badass line in the entire series
slib aaaaand riku just forgot about it because he thought about his fear of darkness once again in ddd
@@Ice-Bear To be fair, he *just* went through having to go super darkness mode and shed that Ansem SOD form probably mere weeks before DDD happened.
It might be weird because some of these games come out so far apart, but for Riku, the poor kid goes through A LOT in a VERY short amount of time.
WRAAAAAGH WRAAAAAGH WRAAAAAGH
Sir Diesalot SUBMIT

Don't care what your opinion was on CoM, the sheer amount of sprite work, detail, and artistic passion seeping out of it is unreal.
Not only that, but the card system is still better than most of the command deck systems we see in more modern KH games

19:22 *Psst* *here's a shortcut through the first round of grinding* 21:52 *and here's one to the end of the rest of it*
OH THANK GOD YOU'RE A SAVIOR
How much do I owe you?
Thank you
@@smolbb713nothing, it's for free
Just want you to know this is still useful
Ya know, having only played the Re version of CoM (much to my dismay), I cant deny this all looks really good for a GBA title.
I was shock when riku is a playable character in this game.. Gba is the best
Actually DS
It's GBA.
@@josecarlosmartinezrodrigue1451 Lol dumbass idiot
Abraham Contreras pretty sure he was implying that the ds is the best.
How do i play as riku
Watching this makes me soooo nostalgic for the GBA days when I was in elementary school. 😍
Wait, is that ... 3D cutscenes in a GBA game?!
Yes my child
Its an fmv file so its not like the GBA was rendering it in real time. Its the same thing GBA Videos did.
What an amazing TAS. This must have been easier to make than Sora's story, but it's still really impressive.
I remember trying to get 100% in both sides on this game... fucking hell that was difficult.
At least I knew of a trick where if you killed an enemy and was EXACTLY on top of their item spawn point when they dropped a card, it'd ALWAYS be an enemy card.
I love how for like half the video he bullies two poor wizzards like legit I feel bad for them
the musics are still fucking awesome coming from a gba game.
There was something better about the gba version than the updated ones, but I'm not sure what it is. I don't know, maybe that's just the nostalgia talking.
The game and its mechanics were originally built for the GBA, and when translated to PS2, the randomly generated rooms, going to a static battle screen, and card system felt clunky on the "superior" console whereas they made sense on this simpler one.
Or I have no idea what I'm talking about. :/
@@Rellik165 Nah, you hit the nail on the head. Recently played through the port on the 1.5 remix as part of a kingdom hearts marathon and the game feels pretty darn clunky on console, Especially right after playing the first game. What doesn't help is just how many assets are reused from the first game as well giving the game a cheap spin off vibe.
Yeah GBA version is way better.
I think the reasoning more of has to do with how well the card system worked with the smaller battle space, where you don't need to travel as far to reach enemies, dodging attacks is simpler, and your attacks can hit a wider range of enemies at once than having to focus them down one at a time. The pacing is just kept quicker even though the battles happen on a different screen from the exploring. When I had to dodge multiple attacks to run at a single Creeper Plant in Wonderland while also handling the card limitations, I realized that the GBA version was better off.
The GBA version is WAY easier than the ports
Welcome to 15mins of grinding...
I thought this was a TAS, not a gameplay simulation
@@darkdjinniumbrage7798 lol same. I was like... wait is this TAS? since the combat was so precise. turns out yep. even the TAS needs to grind. kmn
It's a bit longer than 15 minutes...
Lmfao I love this so beautiful :3
Why does this look so good
+Spikechive +sirpintine
You're both kind of right.
There's a tiny bit more grinding before Doc leaves Hollow Bastion. ;3
Yes, yes, skip this farming session : there isn't any interesting about it (well, it's repetitive) ;). (And thanks, Spikestuff, for the publication)
Doc Skellington You did good on Sora and Riku's sides. :)
Close, you skip past a Boss Battle at 19:31.
How are these sprites so damn good for a GB:A
vampireguy24 they even manage to put the pre rendered cutscene in here.
Another example is megaman zero, the sprites are also good for gba
GBA was really the next step to a new generation. Glad I grew up with it
41:57 - That doesn't look like anything I remember. :P
seriously underrrated game
Holy shit dude...
what the hell happened to the darkside
How do you keep doing the combo finisher over and over
If you double tap B in Dark Form, Riku jumps behind the closest target and then you can use a card to do a combo finish
I had to play this on my Xbox one X after kinda enjoying the remake
22:00 Billy Zane: SUBMIT!!!
More like Boss Rush Mode xD
TAS you not supposed to upgrade Health bar!
RNG manipulation 😉
This music sounds better than the remastered version
I actually like both, both are really good, its yoko shimomura so its good stuff.
@sourapple7474 finally someone gets it.

NEXT LV 358
Over two
why Is darkside a threat in the GBA version of Chain of memories AND NOWHERE ELSE?
Hmmm
Beeg boy, beeg health bar
He's...he's really not. I'd go so far as to say he's even easier than KH1 Darkside, he'd only be conceptually difficult here because Riku's deck is fixed.
...His HP bar being hysterically long though is humorous at least.
that meme thumbnail
Raiku!
YOU CAN STAND ON URSULA'S SHOULDER WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUCK
This still pisses me off that I couldn't think of/notice it
@@darkdjinniumbrage7798 As much as my mind is equally going "YOU CAN WHAT" my brain instantly went "wait, Riku has a higher jump than Sora, yeah no I get it, I just never tried."
I beat kingdom hearts 1 ,2and 3 but for some reason I couldn't beat this one.
who drew the gardevoir at the beginning?
ruaaAAAAHH
Yeah Reverse Rebirth seems much better in Re:Chain
reverse rebirth lol wtf that sounds like some sick fetish
Kirin Typh I
Lol I just seen this thread Reverse Rebirth is just the mode with Riku
gardevoir image?
yes.
Oh hey
22:44, 33:45
Omg
Curious as to how Doc routed this because of the grinding. Do you have to make builds for all the levels at which you leave Hollow Bastion? How do you know that you've grinded juuuust enough to blow through the rest of the game?
In Riku's mode every world and inbetween floors have pre-made decks, minus the boss cards since all the ones you get are auto-equipped.
I'd imagine since it's a TAS and he mostly put it into darkness and attack, he could play cards before the opponents went off thus locking them in every time and stomping the rest of the game.
Yeah and really I imagine they grinded just for the bonus attack to make boss fights shorter. Otherwise, they probably could have plowed through the game at level 1 and just leveled off of bosses
How does Berserk Card work?
Been 3 months and you might have figured it out but anyway: beserk card doubles damage output, but it works if your hp is in the red.
@@bertwertotherstuff6668 That kinda thing is a lot easier on the ears with a game like Paper Mario because with a Kingdom Hearts game, *I hope you like car alarms.*
How do i unlock riku
Just beat the game with sora
You gotta beat Sora's story first
KH, KH2, and BBS definitely improved with their upgrades. DDD and ESPECIALLY CoM both really lost a lot of their magic and charm when they were ported. If you didn't play 358 or RE: Coded then your opinion is invalid.
AndySunshine1291 358 could’ve been a hybrid of KH 1 and 2 combat. If you look at Everglow’s timeline series, 358 is a mod and it looked great. And Re: Coded could’ve easily been remade since it had the command deck. I have both CoM on GBA and Re: Coded for DS. Just need 358/2
It looks gba version is easier
No respect towards Rikuplica.
Awful Graphics
Bad annimations
(But forget it, this is wayyy before KH -2 )
For a GBA this is great
damn never seen an opinion more wrong.
